Keep in mind, the ranking member is Jim Jordan who knew those kids on the wrestling teams were being sexually abused because the kids told him. And he did nothing.

Fuckers. Would have actually been a better jab to tag Obama since his SC nomination was stolen first.

I’m with these guys about expanding the Court. I’m also for term limits.
Hillary on the Supreme Court? It would be interesting but at 73 that’s too old.

Can any of this be reversed WHEN Biden takes office? Reversed, no. Biden can pack the court if the Democrats win the senate. And set term limits for justices.

Can any of this be reversed WHEN Biden takes office? Reversed, no. Biden can pack the court if the Democrats win the senate. And set term limits for justices. Term limits require an amendment ratified by 3/4 of the states. I doubt t that will happen any time soon. And court-packing is a dangerous path to take. If Biden wins and Congrezs goes blue, I think the better choice is to pass legislation quickly to cement some of these rights at the federal level to buy time. As long as Democrats can hold one branch of Congress, they won't get repealed. I think a court-packing scheme will just suck up a lot of energy during 2021-2022 that would be better spent reforming healthcare and immigration. If those things aren't taken care of, you risk losing both the House and Senate for 2023-2024.

The Democrats absolutely need to take aggressive action against what the Republicans have done these last 4+ years and adding to the supreme court would be a good start. Like Joe Biden always says they can walk and chew gum at the same time.

I hate the Republicans more than I have ever hated anyone in my life. They are pure unadulterated EVIL.
Joe Biden needs to pack the courts.
Then the Democratic Senate needs to make these rules: No Republicans can ever pass a vote without 60 yes votes. Dems can still have 50.

Yeah, I am for absolute ruthlessness if the Democrats take the white house and senate.
A lot of things I would have said, "I don't want to bust that norm" -- norms are all busted now, I don't care.

Maybe not the best choice but I love that just the idea of her as a judge will have them in a tizzy and a panic. I also like the reference to the greedy old party. And after 150 years, it might be time to change the number of justices. Most Americans, I think, would prefer a more balanced court.

I want Merrick Garland to be the first appointee to the newly enlarged Supreme Court. I don’t need a fringey extremist (unlike the Republicans). A decent, left-leaning moderate would be fine by me. And a stick in the eye to Mitch McConnell.

Wait. This is the official Twitter of the Republican members of the Senate judiciary committee? Our elected representatives? Announcing a SC justice election? (Which is fine.) But they added a taunt to Hillary Clinton?
Seriously? Not a joke account?
Yeesh, I was surprised when the Trump campaign sent out a sympathy tweet about Brad Parscale’s, erm, domestic event and then blamed liberals and RINOs for the event, but this is the United States Senate. It’s way more than tacky. More than mean. Sure, I’ll agree with evil. But also so excruciatingly infantile.

If those things aren't taken care of, you risk losing both the House and Senate for 2023-2024. I’m sorry, but I’m another one who’ll have to disagree with you. If McConnell did not establish a blockade of judicial nominations in the SC and lower courts during Obama’s tenure, I might feel differently. But McConnell did (in lower courts that was a little over 100 seats). In order to equalize them, we need to expand the SC and pack the lower courts. ETA: Also keep in mind that legislation and nominations go through committees first. So having the judiciary committee doing the work on this does not in any way prevent other committees from working on other issues such as healthcare or immigration. I’m not saying this will be an easy lift, but it has to be done.

The difference is that YOU have qualms about changing things and would not do it. The Republicans currently in power have shown that they have no such concerns. So the option is to fight fire with fire or to continue hoping and praying that the other side will follow the rules and show decency. Have you seen anything that leads you to believe that they will do so?

I think I drove my husband to bed early last night because I kept muttering "fuckers" under my breath last night.
They have the emotional maturity of middle school bullies and the intellectual capacity of a turnip.
We need to grant statehood to DC which has already passed in the House. Puerto Rico, Guam too. Expand our House and Senate.
I am just SO. Pissed. Off. that millions of us have voted already and millions more will vote and they shove Barrett in there and immediately call a recess leaving no Covid relief for Americans. They care nothing for Americans.

That ship has sailed. Not only have they packed it, they are expressly seeking to suppress voting so that they can permanently entrench extreme minority rule. This in seriousness may be the last chance we have to have a government that is even moderately representative.

Well, at some point it will stop, right? Realistically, we’re not going to end up with dozens upon dozens of justices on the SC even if the two parties retaliate against each other. Here’s the other thing I want to bring up. Has anyone here ever seen the GOP navel gaze every time they have to do something that is harmful to the majority in the country? Never. They coalesce into one solid group and go for it. They don’t care about being called hypocrites or power-hungry. They just do it. We Dems are our worst enemies sometimes because we overthink too often. It’s Thunderdome. We need to suit up, gird our loins, and fight.

We need to suit up, gird our loins, and fight.(bold mine) Years ago, I listened to Teri Gross interview somebody who one of the pioneers of GOP direct mailing. He wasn’t rabidly partisan, so was candid. He said that a message to Republicans voters should always be very black and white, and Democratic voters want more grey - more nuance, more explanation - in their messaging. He admitted it made his job easier. Speaking of navel gazing and all.

Democrats need to street fight. Fight fire with fire. I get tired of the “ going high” when” they go low”. There are times when you have to get as dirty as the guy your fighting.
