Regarding Hunter boots: I’ve had a pair for many years — they are a nice British racing green, ha. But what I really came to tell you is that the foldable/packable Hunter boots are what I would get over the traditional ones! They are much more flexible, so they are less heavy and easy to walk in, and they stay up just fine when you wear them, even if they collapse when you take them off.
I also have a pair of Bean Boots from LL Bean, and they are great if you aren’t slogging through water or snow. But if she plans to walk through deeper puddles, then I would get a taller boot.

Costco is currently carrying hunter boots online and in the store (at least they were in my store).

Thanks, everyone!
I ordered her a pair of the Hunter refined short boots in black. After talking with her, she was pickier about them than I thought she might be, so I am glad that I discussed this with her-- even if it won't be much of a surprise. I got to use my gift card, too.
Now I'm deciding on some Sloggers for myself. Can't decide if I want a print or not! I like the price on these. I'm happy to spend more $$ on dd, as she walks a lot on campus and the drainage is terrible there. For me, it's mostly running into work or into the grocery store at this point.

If you want Hunter for yourself, Nordstrom often puts them on sale so watch for their Black Friday sale.
