I follow someone on IG that is a minimalist and very frugal. The other day she posted a pic of part of her fridge and I am astonished at how empty it is. She has six kids. I only have four and my fridge is always jam packed and drives me crazy. We also have a smaller fridge in our basement for extras of item that I might buy at Sam's Club, milk, beverages, etc. I am curious how often she goes to the grocery store, what they eat, etc. I would like my fridge to be more organized and less packed, but also don't have time to go to the store daily. It got me thinking about other people's fridges--are they clean, sparse and organized? Or cluttered and messy like mine? If yours is organized, what are your suggestions for getting it to be more orderly without going to the store more often (I already go at least weekly). The only thing I can come up with is making a very strict meal plan for the week and sticking to it.

Ours is organized but full. We eat lots and lots of vegetables so they take up a lot of room. I generally do my shopping on Saturdays, so buying for a week at once. By Friday, it's looking pretty sparse in there, though. I do make a strict meal plan and we stick to it, but it's still a ton of stuff in there on Saturday and then gradually declining through the week.

That's what I do - the very strict meal plan. We do not have food in the house other that what we need for the week's meals. And the leftovers immediately get packed into containers for lunches or for extra meals in the freezer. We take leftovers for lunch and they get cleared out quickly. I shop weekly. However, I only have one child. And we are not big meal eaters. The meal threads here are such an eye opener to me - seeing what other families eat. Other people's meals seem so wildly extravagant to me - with salads and two side dishes and bread and dessert! Last night we had chili and goldfish, and water.
I remember one of my daughter's friends opening up our refrigerator. She couldn't get over how clean/empty it was. A different time, Quinn came home from a friend's house telling me how much food was in their refrigerator. It was like she had seen a different world!
I admit to being a bit ruthless over clutter, no matter where it is. Refrigerator and pantry included.

I actually get joy from an empty-ish refrigerator but with 4 adults in the house right now that does not occur. We are actually in the market for a larger one but are having trouble finding one that will fit in the space we have.

On my list today is to do a big clean out of the fridge. I feel like the only thing organized and accessible is the beer. I'm looking at you Dh 👿

Mine is packed. DH is in the camp that if it isn't overly full, it's empty. And I bought a cute, little blue small fridge to put in my office only for beverages, but he came in this morning after grocery shopping and packed it with stuff. Sigh.
Plus, we may have a freeze tomorrow, so I've been spending time this week clearing out the garden which means we are up to our ears in veggies, especially greens which take up space.

Super empty. I have a drawer with the meats I'm cooking that week; a drawer with the veggies for the week. Condiments on the door shelves. Leftovers in containers, but they're eaten the next day. Milk(s) on the top shelf, cold cuts in a drawer. And that's it. Seriously - we have empty shelves.

The biggest organizatonal thing for me is to make sure that I clean out the fridge before I add more groceries to it. Makes a world of difference. Also, use the drawers and door(s)!

Organized chaos. I clean it out every Sunday in preparation for Monday grocery shopping but it usually gets pretty crazy by Thursday with leftovers, especially now with both of us staying home every day and trying to eat lunch at home.
We have gotten better about eating most of the produce before it goes bad now, we used to be terrible about it.

Mine is extremely organized although DH actively works against me and puts things back in the first open space he sees. He cleaned the fridge last weekend and reversed two of the door shelves putting them back and didn't believe me until I showed him how I couldn't see what was in the top shelf. We do have a garage fridge that is loaded with all the extras so I only need to have 1 gallon of milk, one dozen eggs, fruit and vegetables for a couple days, etc., in the kitchen and that definitely helps things stay organized. I make heavy use of storage bins to keep things organized. All yogurt, sour cream, hummus, etc., goes in one. Heavy vegetables go in the drawer (carrot, beets, cabbage, broccolini, cauliflower, etc.) and lighter ones in a bin (greens, cucumber, herbs, etc.). Things for sandwiches are in the door shelf (mayo, mustards, peanut butter, jam) so kids don't dig around too much. Before getting a deli drawer a bin held cheeses, sandwich meats, etc.

I keep a LOT of different condiments in my fridge -- I think I have six different jars of mustard alone. So it normally has a lot of things that stay in there for a long time. LOL, they don't fit on those skimpy door shelves. I buy a lot of fruits and vegetables, more than will fit in the drawers, so they're scattered about. Plus cold cuts and cheeses. Wine and beer, milk and a couple different juices, flavored tonic waters and soda. Mine is normally pretty full when I go shopping, then decreases through the week. I keep it organized using bins and clean the shelves off before I shop.
All bets were off this past week, though. I had both kids and their partners staying here. There's a lot more food to feed six people rather than our usual two.

Packed and organized. I have clinical OCD and everything has a place in the fridge. Same with the freezer.
It isn't pretty (glass containers every where) but it is functional, clean, and works for us 😊

Yes, the cleaning before adding more is huge and makes all the difference for me. And also transferring a small portion of something into a smaller container. I seriously LOVE an organized fridge. It was much harder to achieve when I had three dds at home, though, and made big dinners and packed school lunches daily! Now it is just Dh and I at home and besides the fridge, I have a sub zero beverage fridge with shelves too so usually leftovers or overflow along with some bottled drinks for dh can go there. I ditto good use of the drawers And doors and also keeping like items together.

Completely organized and full with the exception of the ridiculous amount of condiments/marinade that SO likes to buy. One I'm just going to toss all of it!
My deli meat/cheese drawer which is the width of my fridge used to drive me crazy. I had so many old crusty cheeses and meats that would disappear towards the back of the drawer. I finally bought some shallow bins to round everything up and it looks so much nicer now. Plus, it's a huge help when I need to take inventory before my next shopping trip.

I'm actually feeling a lot better about my fridge since seeing the NY Times Trump/Biden fridge quiz. Mine is a hot mess, but there are many that are a whole lot worse!

My biggest frustration is condiment clutter! We need different sauces and things for so many recipes so we have a ton of things we don't use that often in the fridge door and now taking up some shelf space as well. I wish I could figure out how to keep it all neat - and afford the pretty containers to make it look nice. LOL

Very organized! We have 6 people living here, but i've always had a place for things so they seem to have followed along. I keep like things together and things that are always in there have a place. My cabinets are the same, I could direct you to almost anything in there and you'd have no trouble finding it. I've noticed my sister on the other hand (4 in her house) has the most chaotic refrigerator/cabinets i've ever seen. There is zero room anywhere and everything is just stacked up. It's hard to help her on a holiday because she can't tell you where to get or put anything because it just gets shoved in whatever space she can manage. At one time we had the same refrigerator so it's not the space.

It's usually pretty full but is one of the more organized things in my house- which might not be saying much?
And despite that, unless something is cooked, cut up, and sitting on a plate in the fridge with like, a parsley f@#$ing garnish, there is someone screaming that there is nothing to eat. I am so very tired of feeding people.

Once my kids moved out and we started getting Hello Fresh 3 times a month, my fridge went to about 60% capacity. It is lovely to be able to see the back of fridge. The cost of the HF service is actually less than what we paid for groceries because we had to overbuy to pay for making certain meals.

Not full and not organized. Some items go into a specific spot, but we basically just put stuff wherever there is room. When the shutdowns first started, the fridge was pretty full. But we have pretty much fallen back into the habit of only about 1 weeks worth of food.

Our big kitchen fridge and the extra fridge in the garage used to be packed when the girls were still living at home. They both loved to cook/bake and of course we had to have snacks/drinks for all of their friends.
Now that it's just the two of us, our kitchen fridge is usually pretty bare. 'Just what we need for dinners for the week. We try not to over-cook so there are little to no leftovers. I like to clean/sanitize the fridge each Friday before grocery shopping... easy to do when, by Friday, there's not much there!

I do make a strict meal plan and we stick to it, but it's still a ton of stuff in there on Saturday and then gradually declining through the week. This is us as well, most of our food is produce so by the end of the week it is practically empty. So before he goes to pick up our order or while he’s there I clean out the fridge, wipe it down completely, take out drawers and wash them as needed. When that happens weekly it doesn’t take much time at all. As for keeping it organized, I’m sure it’s easier for me as it’s just the two of us. All of our condiments fit in the doors, and we keep quite a few weird ones but there is quite a bit of room. Then each drawer/shelf has a known purpose. He’s not as always as great about sticking to that as produce containers sometimes get placed onto the breakfast or drink shelves so there is not room for those, so I have to rearrange a little. Packed, messy and chaotic. We lose most of a shelf to the meal delivery bags, the vegetable crispers are never big enough for all the veggies, and we always seem to have lots of leftovers, half full condiments etc plus all the breakfast shake stuff. It's just a disaster lol. I love a full fridge though, as long as its not leftovers.

We only have one refrigerator and it's always a mess. We waste so much food every day because we can't find stuff. I wish we could get another refrigerator for the basement or garage. But my husband doesn't want one in the garage because he uses all the space for his hobbies. Even a smaller size would work. We have a dorm refrigerator to put water bottles and sodas. There are 5 of us and we eat a lot! I try to go to the grocery store for dinner stuff every day so I don't have too much in the refrigerator.
I look at the beautiful organized refrigerators and wonder if they have a "real" one full of stuff somewhere else in the house, haha!
Our tiny pantry is also a mess! We just have hardly any storage in our house.

LOL What about keeping those you use most often in the doors and then buy one clear plastic bin to store the rest of it them. That way it’s contained to one area, easy to move to clean, easy to pull out to find something.

It's taken me 6 hours working a little every few days. Once I complete that project I can meal plan, and shop better!
