In a funk today and trying to stay positive. DH and I were watching the West Wing episode following 9/11 and the music of Buffalo Springfield ended the episode. We're looking VERY good, peas. Biden is likely to win AZ (because no one wins AZ without Maricopa & Biden got that). MI is also likely for Biden. If those happen, we just need NV.
If Biden gets AZ & MI, Trump has only ONE path to win: 213 + PA 20, GA 16, NC 15, NV 6 = 270.

Four years ago, I began to wonder what the tipping point would be. What would 45 do to cause the people who voted for him to realize the error of their ways. Then there were the constant lies (even last night/early this morning, Twitter tagged a tweet as untruthful!), the accusations of sexual assault, the blatant racism, kids in cages, gallivanting with dictators, ignoring the bounty on American soldiers' heads, continuing to profit in his business from his position, calling Nazis "fine people," the refusal to listen to science, a quarter million people dead from a virus he is ignoring and... nothing has tipped. We are living in a nation where at least half the people are so underdeveloped that they cannot evaluate situations unless they are personally affected by them. It's "I'm not wearing a mask, COVID is just the flu" until they personally get sick or a relative dies. Then it's "Oh, I should have worn a mask! I should have taken COVID seriously!" Really? You couldn't fucking look ahead and make that call before going about your life, business as usual? So my question again is, should Trump win (god forbid), what will be the tipping point? Will it be when Social Security is cut so drastically that our elderly can't afford to live? How about when food assistance disappears and suddenly, people are hungry? Will it be when taxes are so sky high that they have to give up that vacation home on the coast? Or better yet, lose their primary homes? I should have known that when 45 mocked a reporter with CP, there is no tipping point, just a nation where at least half the people support the cruel treatment of human beings. We do our best to teach empathy in school, but we can’t overcome the me/mine attitude so many learn at home and/or from the right wing media. And of course, some attempts at teaching or encouraging empathy and consideration are derided as “liberal indoctrination” or even banned by the Trump admin, like diversity training in institutions that receive federal funds. In 7th grade we read The Watsons Go To Birmingham, 1963. I have a slideshow I share with my students about the Civil Rights Movement and what was happening in Birmingham in 1963, the setting of the novel. As I was talking them through, I realized that this was the first time I wondered if I'd get flack from parents about "fake history" and being one-sided. One teacher at my school was asked if we were going to talk about white slavery because she'd mentioned slavery in the south and the role it plays in conditions today. Another parent called admin when a history teacher had a slideshow picture of a protest, where a black person carried a sign that said, "My Life Matters." I've decided that I can continue to be a kind and empathetic adult in my students' lives. I will call out injustice and bigotry when it dares enter my classroom. My hope is that no matter what kids are exposed to at home, I can be an influence that helps them be compassionate beings. But what they learn at home...way bigger impact. |

I just got a news alert on my watch that says Trump is suing to stop the counting in Michigan.
I’m more concerned about what might happen in the courts at this point. I think the votes look good for Biden, but what about legal maneuvers?

Biden has now received the most votes of anyone who has ever run for president of the US!
Even without the uncounted ballots, he has more votes than Obama got, because the turnout is so high.

Is this a joke? If not, oh the irony Wasn’t the GOP fighting yesterday to STOP ballots from being corrected? There was a suit filed, I forget for what state, pretty sure not AZ. Am I remembering this incorrectly? Or is this more Trump fuckery because he has been moaning ever since Fox initially called it for Arizona. Freedumb and Trump fuckery...no sleep is working for you! And I have my vocabulary for the rest of the week!  |

PLurker , see...I told ya! Thank you, Wisconsin! Again I wasn't so hopeless about the vote count but rather the lack of humanity continuing to be shown here. I am happy about the count if it holds, just not so much about many of my neighbors. Too much ugly, angry and bigoted. Especially since Kenosha. A Biden win isn't (or won't) bringing me the joy I would have hoped. It is only the best of awful situation, but will it last or go on to make real change? I hope so but what I've heard and seen from above mentioned neighbors makes me much less optimistic than previously, if I'm being honest. I guess I can "thank" trump for making it ok for many to show their true selves and open my eyes further. Feeling rather bummed about my home state regardless of the outcome I guess is what I'm saying. I’m feeling this way as well. My state (Minnesota) went blue for senate and president, but all of my local races went to R’s. While I am relieved that overall we kept the senate seat and went for Biden, I am still discouraged by what I have seen from local people. Would Biden winning make that go away? No. However, if Trump wins I think it will be 100% worse. |
