Was thinking the same thing. If Biden wins whatever he will wish to do will be blocked, just like it was with Pres Obama. That’s true. But, imagine how much horrible it will be if Trump wins and has all the control. Little control by a sane man is much better than King Trump ruling with no regard for anything. And there's always executive orders. Which I loathe to be honest, but at this point, there are apparently no rules if you're President, so GAME ON.

Can't wait for the USA to adopt the popular vote for the presidential election. I can't do this every four years. Sorry to say, it will never happen. It would have to be a constitutional amendment, and the states that would lose power will never support it. Plus all the conservatives in all the other states.

We can’t mandate people wear masks to save lives so I imagine that wouldn’t go over very well. But aren’t the ones protesting mask wearing the “Patriotic” crowd? Wouldn’t they want everyone to exercise their right to vote? Lol! Are you kidding me? They’re all about Freedumb. Plus, if everyone voted they’d be the minority, probably by a bit. More voter participation is bad for republicans, thus their voter suppression and intimidation tactics.

Is this a joke? If not, oh the irony What's wrong with sharpie pens?! It's not like you can erase them?🤔 They bleed through to the other side of the ballot.

Here's what I have for uncalled states: Wisconsin - conflicting reports of completion. Twitter says Biden, maps not verified. ETA: one district still to count, announcement later today Georgia - announcing tonight Nevada - announcing tomorrow Pennsylvania - likely no announcement until Friday North Carolina Michigan Maine's 2nd District Alaska - going red so why it hasn't been called is a mystery. Has there been any word on when Michigan or North Carolina will announce? Or Maine's 2nd? That one has Trump with a good lead so I think it can go in that column. North Carolina has until the 12th to count absentee ballots postmarked by Election Day. Hopefully, we won't need them. Because I can't take this shit until the 12th.

They bleed through to the other side of the ballot. My city uses them and we have never had a problem. The bubbles you fill in are off from the other sheet so any bleeding doesn't affect results.

CNN projected at least 3 Maine votes for Biden. And the margin for Arizona was close to 100,000. Just how many people used a sharpie that they can’t call it? And what a coincidence that they were GOP precincts. Was it some planned stunt?

They bleed through to the other side of the ballot. This is from this website, which looks to be a PBS affiliate. cronkitenews.azpbs.org/2020/10/29/seven-mistakes-to-avoid-when-voting-election-2020/"Voters must only use a black or blue pen when filling out their ballot or it will be rejected. Markers – other than a fine-tip Sharpie – pencils or pens with other color ink are unacceptable because the scanner may not be able to read it. Voters need not worry if the ink seeps through to the other side of the ballot" So maybe they were using those fatter tipped Sharpies.

I don't usually dip my toe in the political threads. I know just enough to stand my ground with DH and other "non-thinkers". BUT I just scrolled FB and a fraternity brother of DH that is real red has just congratulated the 46th President of the US, Joe Biden. Should we even think it is a possibility at this point, or is he just jumping the gun?

Can someone pop in and explain to this dude what Socialism really is. Surely he's been in politics long enough to know what it means. Maybe it's time to put it on the school curriculum so that the next generation are not quite so dumb! Heather Cox Richardson, a political history professor, posted about the difference between international socialism and American "socialism." I was confused about these claims of "socialism," too, until I read her explanation. I'll find her post and link it. Read hereThanks for that link, fascinating read and even more of a fascinating reason as to what socialism means to most Americans. Maybe you really do need to cover the true meaning in schools. An interesting observation from the link..... It is striking that O’Donnell felt it appropriate to ask Harris if she is a socialist—and lots of people apparently think that’s a legitimate question—while no one seems to be asking Trump, who is currently in power, if he’s a fascist.

This morning I took screenshots of two different maps in the NYTimes. Don't know how to post pix here. One map was red states/blue states and one map was the one showing how states are faring re: Covid. If you laid one map on top of the other, you'd have a near perfect fit, with the red states with their FreeDumb (thanks dewryce!) are "winning" in terms of handling Covid pathetically.

Can't wait for the USA to adopt the popular vote for the presidential election. I can't do this every four years. Don't see that happening. If you can't get two houses and a president to agree on a needed relief package, I don't see the added requirements of a constitutional change being met.
I have said this before, but I am amazed at how much time, energy and money is spent in the US on elections! House seats up every 2 years, Senate seats rolling over every two, all the primaries and hoopla going into the primaries for the presidential race... And governors changing at the same time as the federal presidential vote must mean all kinds of uncertainty and disruption in day to day governing... Also seems like so much effort goes into getting elected and staying that way leaves very little left for doing anything productive?
In Canada, each province has its elections separately from the federal gov't, and usually just one provincial election will happen at any one time. Choosing a party leader is a separate process from the federal--or provincial--election. Leadership conventions come up when a party leader resigns or the party is unhappy with him/her.
Not that everything is perfect here. It just feels a lot less stressful.

Watching a Facebook Live of this guy who explores cities. He is based in NY and today he’s walking through the Upper East Side. All the stores have plywood in front of their windows.
Hope they don’t need it.

What are the rules for recounts? It seems like there will be a few states declaring winners with very tight races. Can either party demand a recount?

I know Trump has already indicated he wants a recount of Wisconsin. 20,000 seems like a wide margin to me but maybe not. Speaking of...how long does it take to count 300 ballots?

NPR said Wisconsin's rules were less than 1% margin and candidate can ask for recount.

To be fair, the GOP said we wouldn't be talking about Covid on the 4th... and we're not.
