I've been contemplating doing this lately, but I've never done it before. I want to scrap about my DS's crappy sleeping habits lol. It's been a rough 20 months with him, having to function at work and at home as mom on the level of sleep deprivation I've been at. But what I mostly want to scrap is how I've come to find joy in the times I'm up with him - the sound of his breathing, his pudgy little hands, the way he says "mammy" when he's falling asleep...etc etc. But since it's all in the wee hours of the morning, there are no pictures obviously. I could put a daytime pic of him I guess. But if I don't, how to fill an entire 12x12 layout without a picture?

Several times, when I add a page to my ME album. I'm military and sometimes I get to do high profile things in DC and get special badges or cards. I scrap the event and how I participated. I guess it's just part of documenting my career. Most times I can't snap a pic of what is going on but I want to remember it.

When I used to teach sb classes, I always told people that the type of scrapping we do now combines the traditional scrapbook pf memorabilia, photo album and diary into one book. So a page can definitely have just one or more of those elements.
I have scrapped mostly pages with just memorabilia, such as a page of little cards my mom was sending me. I often scrap my kids' school work or art work, newspaper clippings and other non photo stuff I want to save.
I would write out everything you want to say and put it on the page. If it was me, with this subject, I would include a pic. But there is a famous quote you can often find on baby themed scrapbook stuff that I think is perfect for you:
There was never a child so lovely but his mother was glad to get him to sleep. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
and this one:
You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance. ~Franklin P. Jones

We went snorkeling on vacation and didn't have an underwater camera. I wanted to include that day's adventure in my vacation album, so I scrapped the story and used theme papers and stickers.
For your "Late Night Love" page, maybe snap a sleepy selfie in the morning (if you're brave enough!) and tell about how it's all worth it.

I've done a few. Like pp's said, you can always use theme related stickers or embellishments - there are plenty of baby themed items in the stores/online.
I am planning on doing a journaling only page about my son surfing in Hawaii (do NOT ask me why I don't have pics - touchy subject) and the paper I'm using is a 12x12 sheet that is a just one big picture of a wave. I plan on journaling on acetate or vellum and adhering it to the page. Maybe you could find some type paper like that and do your journaling that way.
Or you could sneak in there in the middle of the nite & snap his picture. If you're really quiet, that one burst of flash might not wake him, lol.

I've only done one but that layout did have sort of a focal point. My kids and I gathered fall leaves and did leaf rubbings with crayons and I scrapped that piece of paper. It's actually one of my favorite layouts. I love fall scrap supplies and that's what I used. You could type up a typical night like a timeline and scrap that. I remember those days. I hope the little guy starts to sleep better at night. It's rough. One of the funny things I remember from my DD being up at night was that Dr. Phil always seemed to be on at 2 or 3 am when I was up with her. I'd start nursing and turn on the TV and she got used to hearing his voice. After doing this night after night she started to turn her head toward the TV as soon as she heard him with the funniest look of recognition on her face and she'd smile. Milk would go everywhere. I should scrapbook that with a picture of Dr. Phil.

Lol elsabelle! That is hilarious! I do have pictures of him sleeping, but none of him in my arms. You know what I do have though? Haha, I just remembered. I took a picture of the baby monitor one night with him standing up in the crib crying for me. I could TOTALLY do that! I love the vellum idea too, because I've got a bunch of it, and plenty of baby papers I still need to use. Thanks for the ideas!

I've done quite a few journalling only pages where I've had stories to share but no photo that really worked. Like others have said - it's a great opportunity to showcase a paper (I like journalling on vellum in this case) or focus on embellishments. I'm an 8.5x11 scrapper so my pages have a little less real estate to work with though

Just did today. One of the pages in our Legoland trip has the admission ticket, a legoland postcard and a pocket with the park map.

I have only done this once, but I loved how it turned out. My oldest ds had gone to a friends birthday party at a bowling alley, first time he'd ever been bowling. He was 6 years old. He got up and bowled 3 strikes in a row on his first 3 turns! Too good not to scrap, right? But, I had a mobile phone that didn't have a camera back then, so no photos! I kept his score sheet print-out, the birthday invitation, grabbed a couple of brochures to cut out the tenpins for embellishments and made a page telling the story. Definately beginners luck, he was never able to do it again, but a great moment for him to look back on!

Yes, a couple of times. I just wanted to get the story out. The last was a conversation with my grandson.

Yes. The one I most remember and treasure was when kids had a surprise for me and impulse was to go get my camera. I had to remind myself to enjoy the moments given you and not to always focus on capturing it by camera. You miss stuff when always seeing through a viewfinder. I think I did use a picture of apple blossoms enlarged, but more as background paper for the of journaling what kids did for me and what I would have missed if I'd gone back for my camera.

I have, but not very often! You could use a photo of him asleep...the irony of it could add to your story! Sorry he has been causing you trouble!!

Yes, but not in the way you mean. Mine was deliberately structured around the fact that there was no photo, with a blank space left where it would have been (journalling was about my childless status)

Last year my mom & I did the "Gratitude Jar," where we'd scribble down happy moments on a piece of paper, fold it up and put it in the jar (we read them with one another on New Year's 2014...we loved it so much we're doing it again this year!). I scrapped the pages--I didn't have a photo to go along with some of the memories, but I found stickers that coordinated and other embellishments. Maybe you could do something similar? Write notes down to scrap, that way you have something in-the-moment you've done to include when you do your journaling. Or take a photo of his closed door to include--that way you don't disturb him but you still have something sweet to included.

I have done a few, BTW I just want to say why not take a close up of his hands when you do have a moment and use that in your page. I don't think you have to have a picture per se that shows him sleeping or do a series of close up photos, his favorite blanket, crib, etc..he doesn't have to be in the pictures.

Chinagirl, I love your photo-less layouts. Reminded me of things I really need to scrap for my kids and grandkids. Thanks for sharing. Jennyap, I am sure that was a hard page to scrap. Hugs.

Yes, I have done a few. One time I copied DD's 1st paycheck and did a page with that.
