Do the other people in your household seem to have difficulty finding things? That you are then able to find in two seconds? This morning my son couldn't find his school shoes. They have a very strict uniform policy, so even if a kid has the wrong colour socks on, the parent has to write a note. He looked everywhere, and couldn't find them, so he had to go to school with his black runners on, and a note from me. DSO gets home from work, and I ask him to go and search DS's bedroom, aka the pigsty, to see if he can find them. He ended up cleaning DS's room while searching for the missing shoes, but to no avail. DS gets home from school and is trying to work out where on earth his shoes are. I went into his bedroom, opened his wardrobe door, picked up a pair of sneakers, and guess what I found behind the sneakers? It took me literally 2 seconds to find the shoes that two males couldn't find in half an hour each. I mean, why wouldn't you look in the wardrobe, which is actually where the shoes are supposed to be?  I should point out that it's not just the men in this house...... the number of times DD would have a melt down because she couldn't find something, only for me to walk into her bedroom, pick up one thing and find the missing item underneath it...... if I had a dollar..... |

All the time. Several times a day I have to tell my husband to move something. Otherwise he'd just stand there and stare like whatever he is looking for is going to jump up and say “here I am”.

This bugs me the worst. That's when the husband thinks that the wife knows where everything is, huh? Like they think the uterus is a tracking device. He comes in: "Hey, Roseanne! Roseanne! Do we have any Cheetos left?" Like he can't go over and lift up the sofa cushion himself.

In my house, my ds asks me where anything that he needs is.
I give my best guess based on what is going on.
ETA ds tells me all of the time that I know where EVERYTHING is. Nope, I just pay attention.

We have a word for it in our house - we call it ‘laziness’. 😉
I’m all seriousness, though, I have some major trees-from-the-forest issues when it comes to both our pantry and utensils drawers. I typically get DH to look for things since he’s the one who puts them away.

Dh, standing in front of open fridge or cupboard "I can't find x"
Me, sitting in armchair, no intention of moving, "have you moved anything? it's not going to jump up and wave at you"

There is a standard response around here that anything you can’t find is “Next to the butter” ...something to do with an old joke about how to find an elephant in the fridge.
But yes, Dh is constantly amazed how I find things that he can’t 🙄😊

I have a DH like that. I think he thinks that everything is glued down in this house because it seems impossible for him to move anything. I think he also thinks that I have two brains, my own and his, when he asks " Do you now where I put my wallet/shoes/keys....." So frustrating!

DD was having trouble finding an item of hers when she was old enough to know better. I asked if she had looked under x, y, or z. She actually said to me, "No, they wouldn't be there. That's not where it goes." I just looked at her, completely at a loss. Well, that's why you move things. Because the thing that you are looking for is not where it's supposed to be!
In our house, I'm always saying that you don't have to give birth to find a lost item!

my ex always said my ovaries were a tracking device! i had an 8th grade boy in the library friday looking for one of the harry potter books... he "looked everywhere" and i walked over to the cart he'd just looked on and it was right there, huge 2" thick book. lol

I admit I have used it to my advantage.
Yes, I will fess up that I have bought cookies/treats and as long as I do not put them in the exact spot in the pantry that I normally do they will not be seen. It's magic.
I can put them in plain sight on the shelf directly above or below and no one is the wiser.
Then when they see me eating a cookie and ask where I found it, I innocently show them.
They shake their head and tell me that they were looking for them, but never saw them.
Inside I am giggling, but I am sure to give them a sympathetic look first.

OMG. My DH dubbed me “the finder” decades ago. He will tear the house up looking for something and come to me in complete exasperation asking if I know where it is. I will walk right over to it, sitting out in plain sight. “This thing?” Half the time I don’t even know what the thing is but I still know where it is. My DD is almost as bad as her dad. She will ask me where something is (usually when I’m right in the middle of something) and I will give her a detailed description of where to look, i.e. “on the small kitchen counter, against the wall behind the Kleenex box” to which she will wail, “I can’t FIIIIIND it!”  I stop what I’m doing, stomp over to where I know the stupid thing is, pull it out in front of her face and say, “SEE? It is exactly where I said it would be! Sometimes you actually have to MOVE some stuff.” So completely frustrating. So if I’m “the finder” does that make them “the losers?” |

OMG YES !!!!!!!!! Being in quarantine with DH and my 89-year-old Dad. WHY don't they MOVE things ?  The real question is, would either of them eat or find ANYthing if I wasn't here? I have learned to leave huge NOTES for them, and it has helped my anger quite a bit. I swear if my Dad asks me ONE MORE TIME where the croutons and salad dressing are, I will lose my sanity! |

Sometimes, when my son comes to me and says he can't find XYZ, I say to him "If I go into your room and find it, I am going to give you the biggest kick up the bum." He'll then go back to his room and miraculously find whatever it is he's "lost". There is a standard response around here that anything you can’t find is “Next to the butter” Hahaha I like that one! My son may not be able to find his school shoes that are hiding in plain sight, but his tracking beacon works exceptionally well when it comes to chocolate, biscuits and lollies! |

when my kids can't find something and i come to help and move a bag and miraculously, item is FOUND.
so the running joke at my house is "sometimes you have to move things" or they will yell up to my room "mom, i can't find x... and yes, i moved things". lol!

My niece sent me one during the Iraq War that said something like: No wonder they couldn't find any Weapons of Mass Destruction! They sent a bunch of MEN to look. They should have sent my MOTHER. She would have seen them immediately, dragged out Sadam by the collar, rubbed his nose in them, and told 'im "You have some explaining to do!"
