What am I missing? If he is convinced he won, why is he doing this? If in his tiny little heart he knows it's over for him, again, what is the reason? I know there are a lot of folks here smarter than me who can shed light on this.

Looks like a mad scramble to retain power. Coup is a strong word, but...if it walks like duck...

I have some wacko republican friends/relatives here that are talking civil war. Would the military back the current commander in chief? or support a newly elected President?

They will uphold the constitution. oddly enough, trump did not do well with the military vote this election. Bunch of losers and suckers.

IMHO, he has sent loyalist in to destroy records. Isn't everything backed up? I'd like to think that there are safeguards in place to keep this from happening, no matter who is running what department.

I stay up at night worried about this. I don’t think so, but I’m guessing people don’t expect a military coup until it happens.

Like all the checks and balances that were cited in 2016 and were supposed to prevent trump from doing all sorts of devious and unethical things?

I can only imagine how much more sophisticated it would be for something as important as what we're talking about here that is only available at the "Top Secret" level.

Did anyone watch the Van Jones Ted talk that was posted on another thread? That is pretty scary. I could see a civil war or at the very least some very serious rioting if he and the Republicans do what Van outlines could be done in the video. Someone in another thread also said that Esper didn't want to use the National Guard on citizens. So, he could be anticipating some serious riots and needed someone in there who would be willing to stick up for him and his "law and order" policies.

Best case scenario, firing Esper and others is just petty grievances and scorched earth. But, there are some other pretty scary scenarios.

Esper thinks he is being replace with "yes" men.
Trump has to do something to keep himself relevant. Firing people is his signature thing.

With Trump, you're either with him in totality, or you're against him. There is no middle.

Why would there be riots now? or like when? I think that time has passed. Even Republicans are sick of it all I think.

Esper did not want to send our military into the streets against American citizens. dt could have attempted that by invoking the Insurection Act(I think that is what it is called) Again we have to trust our military and their military leaders. They will not follow illegal orders even if given by dt! They will follow the Constitution!! It is their duty! dt is installing mostly civilians.

I feel like the problem here is that recovery technology is designed for normal, sane people who want to make sure the data is never lost. What about people who don’t want the data retained? I would hope that there is some sort of technology that actually prevents data from being erased or overwritten or otherwise destroyed at that level of security for just this very reason.

Just think of what will be destroyed in the WH. What isn't will be taken by those who should not have had access!

The politicians are just hedging to let the process play out for their 2022 run. Pussies and this Republican will remember it 2022.

Anyone remember the passive aggressive taking of the "W" keys off White House keyboards by some staffers back in the day? I'm sure there will be stuff like that. I'm not too worried about huge breaches happening.

Of course nobody knows, but IMO he is going to be as petty and disruptive as he can be. He would like to overturn the election, but Biden’s margins are too big.and he won in too many states. It is extremely unlikely that he will be able to get the votes where he needs them.
As for Congress, the 1) want his help with the Senate elections in Georgia and 2) are terrified of his base.
I could be wrong, but that’s what I think.

Holy carp. Ok, now I am concerned as CNN just reported that Biden is being blocked Trump directive to State Department from receiving messages from foreign dignitaries. This is a break from long-standing protocol transcendent of party transition.
