I'm asking this here because I don't know if anyone will see it on the Silhouette thread.
I have 2 questions - recently I was changing laptops and a computer savvy friend loaded all my programs, files etc onto a thumb drive. Then from there we loaded everything onto the laptop. When I opened my Silhouette program it had been updated, which is great BUT I had all my images in categories and all those categories are now gone. So I have spent a few hours re-categorizing them. However, while doing that I realized that a lot of my images seem to be missing. I know that I can't find several images I used for cards. How do I get them back?
Also at one point, someone somewhere had made a file where the grid on the screen was numbered just like the mat. You could download the file and then click on it to transfer it to your screen when you started a new project. So helpful. Does any one know what I'm talking about and can help me find it again?

Silhouette software actually has a grid that looks like the mat. You can have it show or not. It’s under the “View” option.
As to your first concern, a lot depends on how your computer savvy friend handled the software and file transfers to your computer. Is there still a copy on the thumb drive, or in your old computer? Were they completely transferred off the thumb drive to your new computer?
The problem sounds as though it may have to do with the update of the Silhouette program. If you were using a much older software version, especially if you have never backed up your files to the Cloud through the program before, both your folders and some/all personal files can be lost. I had something similar happen to me. I had not backed up my files before unthinkingly updating my Silhouette software. My scream of anguish was probably misunderstood by my poor neighbors.
Thankfully, most of the files that I lost were still on my old computer, so I was able to copy them and load them back into the Silhouette program. The loss of my folders was a bigger issue, because sorting all of my files would have been a mammoth undertaking. I have had a subscription to the Silhouette Design Store for a long time. I have literally thousands of designs. I needed Silhouette Chat Support to help me. It didn’t help that I also had the Cameo 1, not the Cameo 2 or later. There was an issue with a Windows update that complicated my problem with the Cameo 1.
Now I always make backups of everything to more than one external hard drive, and before I update the Silhouette software, I always back up my files first. I also back up my personal files (ones I have created or downloaded from other sources than Silhouette) to my computer hard drive. I have found that backing them up to the Cloud in the Silhouette software does not always work for complex print and cut files that I have created myself. They may go to the Cloud, but they won’t download back from the Cloud to my computer. The Cloud seems to work fine for most files, but not all.
I hope that helps, and that I haven’t just confused or worried you.
There can be a long wait for Silhouette’s chat support, but they were able to help me at least somewhat. They were able to retrieve all of my folders and sorted files, by my personal files were not among them. Those that had not been backed up to my computer’s hard drive (not just in the Silhouette software) were lost.

Yes, you are right. The numbers are above and to the right of the mat, not on the mat itself, but if you choose the “show crosshairs” option, it will show you exactly how you are lined up. I can understand why you prefer the imported mat with numbers. I hope you find it, or that someone else who knows will respond.
Good luck on resolving your missing files. I know it’s really frustrating and upsetting when it happens.
