Just spoke with my husband on the phone and he told me that the hand doctor said that he has trigger finger and will operate on him. Looked it up and it sounds as though it should help him. Do they put you to sleep for this or is it just a local? I sure hope it's a local. What else can you tell me about this surgery? Thanks in advance.

I had it done a couple years ago. It was out-patient, and I was lightly sedated -- does that make any sense? The same sort of sedation they use for colonoscopies, I think. Couldn't drive myself home, but no lingering effects. The surgery was over very quickly, and I had no problems. Finger works fine!

I had it done years ago on my right hand. Has he tried www.3pointproducts.com/oval-8-finger-splint-copy-1I have a trigger finger now on my left hand. I wore this brace all the time and it barely can lock now. Now I just wear it at night to keep it straight.

My dad had this done many years ago and I think he had more than a local.

My coworker is prone to trigger fingers and has had to have the surgery three times on different fingers. She too described "light sedation". So far, all of the fingers on which she's had surgery are fine, but she was told that sometimes, the surgery needs to be repeated.

I had surgery in 2009 for trigger finger on the middle two fingers of my left hand. They numb the hand, I was awake, I think it took about 1/2 hour. Stitches were removed in 10 days, recovery took a couple of weeks. I haven't had any problems with it since.

DD had this surgery on her thumb when she was about 13 months old. She was given full anesthesia. She was cranky after waking from the surgery but a couple hours later, you wouldn't have known anything happened earlier that day. She never showed he was in pain/discomfort after the surgery.

can't he try shots first? I have 4. both thumbs and 2 other fingers on R hand. the R thumb was the worst (the 2 R hand fingers are very new to being 'triggers') very painful. Doctor shot it with something. It worked. I think he said he could try the shots twice and if that didn't work he'd do surgery. That thumb has been fine for a very long time - a decade now? hopefully, the others won't act up either. I'd try the shots first.

My uncle has had this done twice on different fingers. No problems, and he has had great results.
