I'm pretty good with plants, but omg I cannot keep succulents alive for the life of me. I know they need less water. dd had a succulent that she killed also so she was reading up on them and read something that said not to water during winter. I thought that can't be talking about indoor succulents right?
Please help us not keep killing off the succulents we currently have.

I am a notorious under-waterer so my indoor succulents do pretty well, although I did kill one last winter. I think this was more related to a pretty wet summer and me being inattentive about emptying the saucers (my plants summer outside on the deck).
You can't not water the entire winter, but they can do without weekly watering. I typically water all my houseplants every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. The ones that need more more frequent watering I keep by the kitchen sink so I can throw water on them easily when I think of it. It helps me to have a plant "remind" me to water. My avocado tree's leaves weep when it needs water.

Over watering is the biggest killer of succulents.
They are desert plants—-
So sun, dry, low humidity.
Find a spot that they get those 3 things and you should be golden!
They do not like cold drafty spots so they can be in a window, but I’d back them away from the glass.
I water my succulents about once a month.
Clay or stone pots are best. They allow proper draining and breathing/oxygen.
If you’ve repotted—they need a well draining soil, so I mix 1/3-1/2 sand to a good soil that is not a wet, heavy soil.
Other than those tips, they need little attention.

I have two little ‘rubber’ succulents on a shelf in my kitchen that gets zero natural light. People compliment them regularly. I think so many succulents have that weird rubbery texture that these fake ones are quite passable.
So my advice is buy fake ones.

If the leaves are wrinkly looking it's underwatered.

Sun, sun, sun That's what I find the hardest. I'm good at not watering but I don't think our house gets enough bright sun inside. I keep my succulents on the front porch where they get blasted with sun in the mornings.

I have some that I water once a month - others every 2 weeks. They seem to do better being close to a window. I love The Sill & they always have good tips: Plant Tips
