If I didn’t want to spend Le Crueset money but wanted to purchase a good Dutch oven as a Christmas gift, what would you recommend?

Staub is good and you can sometimes find them at Tuesday Morning. I have a Lodge one that I got on Amazon. I have heard good things on the Amazon Basics brand dutch ovens.

Lodge or Tramontina
Also, if you're a Costco member, they recently had a set of 2 LeCreuset dutch ovens for a decent price. I don't know if they're still available - it was a few weeks ago that I saw them. But it might be worth checking there.

Thank you, ladies! Sadly, we have no Costco here in Maine, but it looks like I could order a set of 2 Tramontina from them online without getting a membership. I’ll check out Sam’s club and Amazon too and take a peek at all the brands you mentioned.

If you have a Le Crueset outlet nearby, you may be able to find a reasonably priced one. WE have also found them at HomeGoods and TJ Maxx. I would get Lodge as my 2nd choice. Staub is as high as LC. That's a great present.

My FIL had a Food Network brand that you can get from Kohl’s. We brought it home when cleaning out their house. I love that thing, but have no other to compare it with.

Lodge is excellent. Mine is a Martha Stewart from Macy's several years ago. Both of those are well under $100.

Le Creuset is having black friday sales.
William-Sonoma is also having great sales on Le Creuset.
I have tried 2 other brands and honestly, except for Staub, nothing compares in quality, weight, durability, and cooking.

I just bought the set of 2 at Costco last week for my daughter-in-law and they were so nice and such a great deal.

Lodge. Kohls with a coupon is a good price.

Be aware that the Lodge enameled cast iron is made in China. It will not be the same quality as a Le Creuset or Staub. The plain cast iron Lodge dutch ovens are still made in the US and of better quality. If giving that though, make sure the recipient is willing to do the upkeep of cast iron (non enameled).
Check the Black Friday sales. Last year, or the year before, I was able to get the 5.5 qt Staub cocotte for $99 from Williams Sonoma. It was an excellent deal and has been an excellent dutch oven.

I’m another vote for lodge
And I even I prefer the regular cast iron. But their enameled ones are good too

I bought a Tramontina enameled cast iron pot a year ago at Sams and really like it. Just used it last night to make a really good pot roast.
