Is anyone planning to attend any retreats or crops in 2021?
A couple of the local hotel retreats I’ve attended in the past are starting back up again in January. I would love to attend in February since it’s likely the only way I can finish anything, but I’m hesitant. I really need a weekend to myself. Maybe just getting a room for a weekend and bringing a table is a better idea. Then I have to meal plan 😑. Maybe next fall.

A group of friends and I rent a place and do long weekend crops. We normally go over MLK weekend in January, but we won’t go this year. Depending on the vaccine situation maybe in April or October. But, we won’t go until there is a vaccine widely available.

Nope. I usually go to Expo's and two other retreats. I just don't see it happening in 2021.

I can see it happening in the later part of the year. Hopefully anyway.

My LSS has already sponsored two crops since October. Plus another crop provider has held two locally. They are all 3 days crops, and as much as I want to go, no effing way! Even with masks on, I will not be confined in a closed space with people I don't know for 3 days.

I’m hoping they happen again! I was supposed to go to We Create in September. I pushed my registration to 2021 and I’m hoping to go then instead! I haven’t been to a crop in years since I don’t have any scrapping friends anymore.

No way I’m going to anything until we have a vaccine or people can behave rationally and responsibly.

I'm optimistic about my retreat in November, 2021. We have 12 of us that go. The house we rented sold, so we need to find a new place.

When I first started 'retreats' Me and one friend would rent a hotel room for a weekend and had a ball. The hotel had tables for us as well and I brought my own comfy chair. Lots of room because the hotel was unique and had a room that was two stories.. sorta.. there was one of those circular stairways to a loft, not that we used it but it was kinda cool. We actually ended up renting that same room at least three times. My oldest daughter went once when she was 9 or 10 years old and LOVED that space.

I went to a couple in October, back to back weekends. In a room that can normally hold 48 scrapbookers, there were 15. So we had plenty of room, and I felt safe going. Hoping the one at the end of January in the same space will happen, but I think after the holidays, that's a big dream.
I am also supposed to go to a house in December for a weekend. There will only be 4 of us, so I think I'll feel okay with that one too. We can each have our own bedroom, and plenty of space to spread out with working. I will happily make my own food if I can go.

We attended a LSS sponsored event in October. 50 people in two adjoining ballrooms in a local hotel. We each had our own 5' table, chairs prob 10' apart, masks worn any time we stepped away from our own group. She has booked the hotel again for the NSD weekend in May. @citygirl, if you need uninterrupted scrappy time, and wouldn't miss the social part of the event, I would recommend booking a hotel room in a trusted hotel. I have enjoyed the couple of times in the past that I played with paper in a hotel room. When my dh was in hospital, I set up the desk in the hotel room for card making to keep me busy in the evenings. Another time I scrapped a whole trip on the weekend I returned b/c the flight came in on Friday night and I had a dr appointment for Monday afternoon, and it saved me the 5 hour return drive home. I had planned ahead and stored my scrappy stuff at the hotel when we stayed the night before departure. If you are missing the social aspect and the classes, virtual might be the way to go. A lot of the bigger events have been planned for on line. There is Maker Mania that involves a bunch of LSS's at the end of January with a Crop in a Box sent out ahead, youtube classes and fb LIVE participation. Scrapbook & Cards Today has a similar format for a cardmaking Crop & Create event in March.

No crops or retreats for me until everyone that can and will get vaccinated does get vaccinated. This whole pandemic has taught me that I truly cannot trust that people will do the right thing so we will not be mingling anywhere near people until the vaccine is widely available. I can't even trust my friends to do the right thing. It sucks because I really want to go to a crop or retreat so badly!

Thanks grammadee that really helps me think about what I want. I think I missed the social aspect for awhile but all of my scrappy friends quit the hobby a while back. I went to a retreat by myself and honestly found the small talk to be quite annoying lol. One women I just met told me her entire life story including all of her plastic surgeries, and her boyfriend drama....it was exhausting. Ultimately I miss having the dedicated time to just sit and focus on that. I have a nice craft space at home but idk, it seems easy to just put it off when it's there. Too many distractions I guess.

jediannie I'm with you. I don't trust other people to be honest about what they are doing. I catch people in contradictions all the time about how much contact they are having with others. I am the only one leaving the house for work. DH, DS, uncle all stay home. DH is the only other one leaving to go to the store if needed. I don't want to be the one bringing home COVID to at risk family.

I went to one over Halloween weekend at a hotel. I would have gone to another one this past weekend but my regular roommate isn't going out.
I will go to retreats if I have a roommate to split the cost of the room.

The gals running the crop I usually go to in March did not say anything about NOT holding it when they sent out registration information last month. But that doesn't surprise me because A) it's a group from SD and IA, but mostly because B) it's a group of gals that either work together or see each other one way or another throughout the year. I plan to go (although I said the same thing about Thanksgiving and now we're staying home...) because it's my one crop of the year any more, and one of my old friends (who I haven't seen since she moved out of state a couple of years ago) is planning to come back for it. We usually end up with one person per 6 foot table so we will be somewhat distanced.

If my usual people decide not to hold one, I’m thinking about doing my own.

I am signed up to go to a retreat in February but things would have to change drastically in order to consider it.
