newscasters commentaryNewscaster's response /?sfnsn=mo original postDenver's mayor has been telling people for a week not to travel for the holiday and celebrate only with those in your immediate household. Guess what hypocrite just jumped on a plane to Mississippi to spend Thanksgiving with his daughter? Here is what he said last week and then 30 minutes before his flight he tweeted about staying home. ***Here is his justification*** And now he says Jackals, like we all don't have families???

This is a pervasive issue with many leaders. They make the rules and then decide they don't apply to them.

Michael Hancock is corrupt, and a complete asshole. I voted against him last election, but we still got stuck with him. Thank goodness for term limits.

Indeed. He is traveling alone to spend the holiday with just his wife and daughter, but apparently he is able exercise personal responsibility, no one else deserves the opportunity. Rules for thee not me. 🙄 ETA: This was what he tweeted about 30 minutes before he boarded his plane... [ Source]

Our governor went to a birthday party and so no matter what he says everyone says nope if he doesn’t have to follow the guidelines we don’t. Some are using it to say see it’s not real or he wouldn’t do this. Ugg. I expect a huge uptick in case here in California. I understand pandemic fatigue but seriously your every move is under a microscope and you have to lead by example.
I am sure people are going to be pissed that he is traveling. Seriously lead by example because everyone is watching snd it can lead to more deaths. Newsome’s oops was caught on camera so he had to know the kind of response his traveling would create.

This is a pervasive issue with many leaders. They make the rules and then decide they don't apply to them. We have a State Premier here in Australia who took a covid test "out of an abundance of caution" then merrily went about her day instead of isolating until she received the result, like you're supposed to.

Well it is not just him. Public figure or no public figure, many people think the rules don't apply to them. The airports are packed.

Well it is not just him. Public figure or no public figure, many people think the rules don't apply to them. The airports are packed. right, but those people didn't just shut down a city and tell people they weren't allowed to gather with anyone outside their house and THEN get on a plane to another state.

I get so frustrated with this. I am home alone this year. My family is less than 6 hours away. I have waited a long time to be this close to my son and his wife and in a position where our relationship is good enough to share holidays and then COVID. She takes care of her grandmother who is high risk so we are not getting together. My son is working and our video game came out this week. We are playing long distance. Per this idiot's logic, I can go see my kids because Im a mom. Im not a wife anymore, but I am a mom. That has to count for something right?
I have been handling the pandemic fairly well due to my inherent hermit nature. I do have to work still which puts me in a smaller higher risk category, but so far so good. Im tired of this pandemic. I want to see people (I will deny this later don't worry lol) yet we all agree to cancel trips, meetings with family etc just to keep the most vulnerable of us protected. And yet....this. I know life isn't fair but come on...this is just ridiculous.
Vent over..back to my last little bit of work before I take time off and reset my head.

There is NO EXCUSE for this behavior by any "leader".
You want to be in "leadership"? ACT LIKE IT!

We just lost a family member to covid this week. She battled for over three weeks before her lungs gave out. I truly just want to throttle people like this mayor. That is not leadership. Set a damn example.

Why are his wife and daughter here? One news report I read said his daughter recently took a job there. I'm guessing the Jackson area, but the article didn't say.

Now he says it was a mistake he made to go. No asshole, it was a decision and nothing you say excuses it.
Every reason he gives is hypocritical and could be said for any person choosing to visit family

He's not the only one. After urging small Thanksgiving, San Jose mayor sorry for gathering that broke Covid rules. The mayor of San Jose, California, apologized Tuesday for not following state coronavirus restrictions during a Thanksgiving meal in the latest example of an official not following public health protocols. Mayor Sam Liccardo offered the apology after NBC Bay Area reported that he appeared to have celebrated the holiday with his elderly parents at their home with an unknown number of guests. In a pre-Thanksgiving message last week, Liccardo had urged people to “cancel the big gatherings this year and focus on keeping each other safe.” In a statement Tuesday, Liccardo said he was one of eight people from five households celebrating the holiday with his parents. Statewide protocols limit the number of households that can attend a private gathering to three. I apologize for my decision to gather for Thanksgiving with my family, contrary to the rules. I understand my obligation as a public official to provide exemplary compliance w/ public health orders, & not to ignore them. I commit to do better. My statement: pic.twitter.com/LFhX2LCUf3 — Sam Liccardo (@sliccardo) December 1, 2020 Liccardo said the meal occurred on an outdoor patio with everyone appropriately spaced and wearing masks when they weren’t eating. Several of them had been dining together once or twice a week for several months as a “stable group,” he said, and other relatives who would have typically attended the celebration did not. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/after-urging-small-thanksgiving-san-jose-mayor-sorry-gathering-broke-n1249599

This was also reported yesterday: S.F. Mayor London Breed had her own French Laundry party — the night after Gavin Newsom’s Gov. Gavin Newsom is in good company when it comes to politicians attending fancy birthday parties while encouraging others to avoid gathering. It turns out San Francisco Mayor London Breed dined at the French Laundry the night after Newsom’s infamous, ill-advised, mid-pandemic soiree at the three-star Michelin restaurant in Yountville. Breed took a few days off after election day and joined seven others the night of Nov. 7 to celebrate socialite Gorretti Lo Lui’s 60th birthday, Breed’s spokesman Jeff Cretan confirmed. The party of eight dined in the same kind of partially enclosed room with a ceiling and chandelier as Newsom did — making it more of an indoor dining experience than an outdoor one. Cretan characterized the occasion as a “small family birthday dinner,” but it’s unclear exactly who else attended and how many households the group included. While indoor dining was allowed in Napa County at the time with no specified limit on the number of households, the state’s guidelines “strongly discouraged” social gatherings and capped them at three households. Breed’s dinner at an opulent restaurant — amid an economic catastrophe that’s shuttered countless small businesses and stretched the lines at local food banks to new lengths — might not have technically violated the rules, but it isn’t a great look. The dinner would have certainly violated San Francisco’s health guidelines if it took place in Breed’s own city. San Francisco has issued stricter guidance than the state for several types of businesses, including restaurants, which were not supposed to seat groups larger than six indoors or outdoors unless everyone lived together. Three days after dining at the French Laundry, Breed banned indoor dining in San Francisco altogether. “I cannot emphasize enough how important it is that everyone act responsibly to reduce the spread of the virus,” Breed said in a statement Nov. 10. “Every San Franciscan needs to do their part so that we can start moving in the right direction again.” www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/heatherknight/article/S-F-Mayor-London-Breed-had-her-own-French-15767506.php

We had a similar thing happen in New Zealand.
Early on in the whole thing, when NZ was in a strict national lockdown, the Minister of Health, David Clark, was often on television and in the news telling us all what is expected, what we should and should not be doing.
Until he was busted - TWICE! Once he was found to be mountain biking at a time when we were only allowed to leave our homes for essentials: food, medical care. Then he and his family travelled 23km for a beach trip, when we were only allowed out for exercise in our local neighbourhood.
And he was the Health Minister! Do as I say, not what I do. He was quickly demoted after that 2nd breach.
