Treating myself to an Uppity Negress pen! And was reminded of my favorite artist She is a mom of all girls and homeschools too. The paper dolls would be great for teacher friends or the kids in your life www.adriennebrown-david.com/

I'll add www.avaspetpalace.com/She's an adorable little girl who makes dog treats. My doggos LOVE them (I mean, they're dogs and they eat pretty much anything, but I use these as the "high reward" treats for training.) ETA: Thanks for the great list, BTW!

So many fabulous recommendations! I wish I hadn’t seen the tulle shop. As a mom of boys, statement items like that are extra special/tempting to me.

Two acquaintances of mine- Gohagen Alexander Design Den- Naka specializes in jewelry, weddings, design services, special events, etc. She's a great designer and seamstress! Binky the Mermaid- Kamiesha and her daughter wrote the book and designed the doll. They have books signings and readings sometimes, too.

If you're into nail polish, there are several black owned indie brands. My favorite is Jior. www.jiorcouture.com/

If you are a knitter/crocheter this is the most amazing yarn company: Neighborhood Fiber Company. They are based in Baltimore in a converted fire station. Awesome place with a mission to give back to the community. And the yarn is super-lovely!

Another great way to support Black people is using Black owned service providers I.e . Lawn company, contractors, HVAC repair, carpenters etc. I’d be more than happy to help a pea make the switch to black service providers. Just lmk! Thank you to everyone who shopped with black owned businesses on Black Friday. I can’t wait to hear what you think of your purchases.

Just ordered Binky the Mermaid doll for my daughter. Who since she was a little girl swears she’s a mermaid. She’s 40 and still claims she’s a mermaid.

www.nps.gov/articles/black-women-and-the-fight-for-voting-rights.htmBlack women found themselves pulled in two directions. Black men wanted their support in fighting racial discrimination and prejudice, while white women wanted them to help change the inferior status of women in American society. Both groups ignored the unique challenges that African American women faced. Black reformers like Mary Church Terrell, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, and Harriet Tubman understood that both their race and their sex affected their rights and opportunities. Because of their unique position, Black women tended to focus on human rights and universal suffrage, rather than suffrage solely for African Americans or for women. Many Black suffragists weighed in on the debate over the Fifteenth Amendment, which would enfranchise Black men but not Black women. Mary Ann Shadd Cary spoke in support of the Fifteenth Amendment but was also critical of it as it did not give women the right to vote. Sojourner Truth argued that Black women would continue to face discrimination and prejudice unless their voices were uplifted like those of Black men. A timely read for today. Black women turned this election around so be sure to look for ways you can: Amplify a Black woman’s voice. Especially in the workplace. Share your salary so she can negotiate the same compensation Fight the Stand Your Ground Laws. It will mean more Black lives lost. Donate to HBCUs. Kamala Harris attended one. So did Stacey Abrams. And Raphael Warnock. Turn your outrage into action. Take control of the gun safe. medium.com/equality-includes-you/what-white-people-can-do-for-racial-justice-f2d18b0e0234

I came across the Honey Pot items at Walmart yesterday. In my mind, I thought I remembered it was Black Woman owned. What tipped me towards it was the ingredients. But if I can be totally honest, this statement on the packaging is what sold me: “Made by humans with vaginas, for humans with vaginas. because it takes one to know one”
😂😂how could I not buy it!!

If someone called you stupid you’d say “takes one to know one”.

You can support Amanda Gorman by pre-ordering her books!
They are both on Amazon (I won’t link it)
The titles are:
Change Sings The Hill We Climb.
FYI buying a Black authors book before release is super helpful.
