I have the original sizzix cutter (big shot) and sidekick. At the time I bought some dies for each- a few alphabets and random shapes. I took a break from scrapbooking and now see they don’t work with the new dies? So is there a reason to keep these when I don’t use the dies I have often? If there’s an easy way to use them with the new dies I’d keep them and buy additional dies. I’ve been holding on to them because of the cost of it all. Is there any resale of these?

The sidekick should still work with the newer thin dies, but I'm not sure about the original Sizzix. I sold mine years ago so I'm no help there. I still have some of my original dies and they work in the Big Shot. I would check eBay to see if there are a lot of them and what the pricing is and if they seem to be selling.

Is it the big red machine with the press handle? I did a quick search of eBay and it looks like a lot of them have gone unsold, or sold for fairly small sums. I would suspect that there's a small group of teachers and librarians who might be interested, but there's a LOT of 2nd hand Big Shots on eBay that your average crafter would buy instead of the vintage machine. Here's the search I did with "completed items" which shows both sold and unsold listings. ebay link I'm sorry, I don't know anything about compatibility with new dies.

The side kick works with wafer thin dies if you buy the thicker plates
My big red lever machine has found a home in my DD’s art studio she uses it as a press for milk carton prints.
A regular big shot should also work with wafer thin dies it’s a platform adjustment or new platform

I couldn’t even sell my original sizzix with a handle at a garage sale. I gave it to the goodwill. I recently opened a craft drawer and found a bunch of the dies that I used with that machine. The big thick ones. I need to look and see if they are selling one eBay.

That big red, the original one will rarely find a new home. I have 2. The first I won when it was brand new on the market $100 value. The second was given to me last year and I took it for my son to possibly use in his classroom.
I think you can definitely give it away but I have seen them sitting on shelves at Goodwill. Everyone prefers the roller style at a minimum. Now if you mean yours is a roller type die cutter that even I would want so it would go I think.

I don't think you would have a problem reselling the sidekick . I've been casually searching for one on FB marketplace but they get $$$ when shipping is factored in.

I have a lot still, although its mostly the thick Tim Holtz and Stampin Up ones I've used in the somewhat recent past. Have a stack of the very classic ones too, maybe they will come back in style

I still have my heavy red original one and a ton of original thick dies. I can't seem to part with them. I would like to get a new machine that would work with the original dies but I don't know if it is even worth it. The old red one is so "clunky." LOL

Thanks for all the replies! I didn’t think that the old heavy machine would be worth anything but thought I’d ask! I grabbed some thicker plates for the sidekick and I’ll see if that’s worthwhile. Otherwise I’m going to donate it or give it my kids.

I kinda wish I still had mine. BUT my mom has one so eventually it will be mine. Once and a blue moon it would be so easy to grab and punch out some letters.
I am one of the last not to have a Cricut or similar. I had a Baby Bug years ago but lost it.. (yeah how do you lose that?) I think I left it at a retreat. Then my stepsister gave me her old machine.. newer than the Baby Bug but it is also obsolete. So here I am with no machine. Maybe 2021 will be the year!
