Is this board being sensored? The thread about the book "Please stop helping us" is no longer bumping when posts are posted and a very thoughtful post was posted yet no one will see it. Why is this?

I went to see the post because of this one and Merge did a great job. I don't know why it isn't bumping. Is it possible there are a myriad of posts not bumping and we just haven't noticed?

can you post links to them? I would be curious to see what happens if several of felt the need to post. \

I posted this on the other thread too. See that little anchor symbol to the left of the previous button? I think that's the reason it's not bouncing back up to the top when someone posts and I haven't seen any other threads with that symbol. Fishy!

If you hover over the anchor symbol, it says "this thread is falling." Hm. I don't like the idea behind the board being heavily moderated, if that is the case.

I think moosedogtoo is right about the "anchor" symbol being present in the thread Lauren authored and not in any others. Interesting shit.

I believe this is the reason linkIt's under moderator options in the help section.

Hey, imo, it's the moderator's playground and we've been invited to play. If she wants to work it that way, that's fine with me. It's hardly censorship.

I think we should let the Admin come and give an explanation before we start getting out our pitchforks. There's a possibility that ProBoards made the thread "fall" and not her.

Can I be honest and say I stopped wanting to participate on the old board because it became clear to me that a great many had some seriously racist views. I'm 20 something, single, with no kids so a lot of pea views don't align with my own and a lot of the topics I can barely relate NONE of that bothers me. Conservative views and teacher gripes....no problem. I hate "colored" people...yeah well then I don't care what you made for dinner and won't recommend beauty products to you either

So is it a moderator thing or an OP thing?

So is it a moderator thing or an OP thing? I think its the topic and not the poster. Who is the pea who created the boards for us? I really appreciate it but I didn't participate in the earlier days/months so I'm clueless.

Unless I missed it we don't know who our admin is. Is she still anonymous, other than being 'admin'?

Based on the link about "falling", Honestly I could see how this could be done as a mistake, so I am not ready to require the "outing" the creator of the boards over it. Plus it is possible for the creator of the posting to have enabled it possibly without realizing it. Let's let the creator/moderator give an explanation if need be first.

When she very first created the board she used her actual pea name. Some peas know who she is.
However, she quickly decided she needed a separate anonymous admin account to govern the board.
It's my understanding she posts as a pea under her pea name and does admin duties under the anonymous admin account.
I seriously doubt any of the peas who know who she is would out her.
I appreciate everything she has done. She's pretty awesome.
It would be great if she could address this thread and just let us know if she is doing it as the admin of this board or if pro boards is doing it as something they do across all boards.

I was just curious because there did end up being a really thoughtful and well worded post on that thread and I stumbled on it accidentally. It seemed odd it wasn't being bumped.

I'd certainly want the recognition of creating a new space for everyone.

Censored, absolutely not, moderated, yes (very lightly).
Yes, it was something I did. I received a complaint about the thread, but when I first reviewed it it was just thoughtful and mainly constructive discussion, so didn't need any action from me. Unfortunately that changed fairly quickly, and there was at least one post that came very close to breaking the ToS, and I was concerned it would continue in that vein. That is when I changed it to a 'falling' thread - nothing has been edited or deleted, it will still show up in searches, and those who had already posted to it or bookmarked it will continue to get notification of new posts, but as you've seen it doesn't get bumped.
I've no interest at all in shutting down a constructive discussion, but I have to be conscious that a single breach of the ToS could get the whole board shut down by ProBoards, and minimise the risk of that where I can.
ETA just as a reminder, I only read a small percentage of posts on the board in the normal course of events, so if you want to be sure to get my attention to a particular thread, it's always best to tag me (or report the post, or PM me, as appropriate)

wow. it would have been nice to have the "not bumping" option on the board. It would have taken the fun away from shit stirring trolls if the OP enabled it after a tread went south
The way I understand the explination is that Lauren would have to go remove the anchor to allow it to be bumped back to the top. Is that correct?

Admin, that is very reasonable. It's unfortunate that one or two people can essentially shut down what was otherwise thoughtful discussion, though. I hope the poster who used the offensive terminology was contacted and asked to refrain from such in the future.

i personally think the consequences should have fallen on the racist who posted the offensive term... if we are going to stop threads from being bumped just b/c someone tattled about it... we're going to lose a lot of interesting and informative discussions.
