I'm sorry for the loss of your mom. It must be so difficult to lose your long time partner.

Aww - how very sweet to know he’s staying busy and keeping your mum’s memory alive by continuing her Christmas traditions:) I’m sure it’s a weight off your mind to know that he’s not just sitting at home grieving.

This is so sweet. I always feel like I'm keeping my relationship going with my mom when I do the things she was good at. I took a community ed class so that I could learn to make a decent pie crust and now I'm good at it. Your mom would love that he is making cheese straws.

Wow, your Dad the Rock Star. That is awesome that he wants to do these things and is following through on them. What a gift to you and your sister.

i love hearing stories of widows or widowers keeping on with life after their long time partner pass away. i want so much to believe that if something happened to me, xmas cards will still be sent, my garden will live, and DH will eat more than just a sandwich for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Making cheese straws from scratch is more than I have ever done in my life. Kudos to your dad. Me too! I'm scared of that recipe!!! Although, I LOVE to receive them as a gift! I'm impressed with all that your Dad is doing. It shows he's been watching your Mom all of these years and wasn't oblivious to what she was doing!

That is awesome. I lost my husband of 54 years about 2 years ago and I can't even remember how to cook. I did send out Christmas cards this year, but not the past two years. I don't even know where my address book is. (of course, I've moved since my husband died, so maybe it's in the stuff I haven't unpacked!) I do take care of my smaller space here, but I was at my wits end in the home we share for so many years. The memories overwhelmed me, and made me sad because he wasn't there with me. My head went completely blank. I didn't know how to fix anything--and I was lonely beyond words. Your dad sounds like he's doing very well.

Thanks for sharing that heart warming story. Your dad is handling it in such a positive way. You know what they say - the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree ~ you’re pretty awesome yourself. ((( hugs )))

How sweet! How courageous. How proud you must be. gar just pay attention and make sure it doesn’t become a burden on him to do the holidays (or life) just like Mum did. At some point it may be overwhelming. Even though nobody else is putting these expectations on him, he might do it to himself. Once it stops being “fun” or satisfying he needs to know it’s ok to stop.

What a great guy! God bless him for keeping your mom so present as he forges ahead. And God bless you, too, as you both find a way though grieving.
