Apply the gift card balance to any purchase you are making.

Yes....I have about 5 or 6 Visa gift cards with under $10 on them. It’s SO annoying. You have to know the EXACT amount or they will be declined. One of these days I’m going to sit down and look them all up to find out how much is on each one. And I’ve learned my lesson—I only use them now when I’m going to use the WHOLE thing...

You can load a Vanilla Visa or an AmEx GC onto your Apple Wallet and use up the balance that way. Apple will take the GC balance and the rest from your other saved payment methods.
I do the Amazon thing with mine.
I’ve shared before that I work for a gift card issuer. I know we are not out to scam anyone. We charge no fees other than purchase and have enabled Apple Wallet to help customers spend their funds. At the same time, we have to make money, we aren’t a charity. But we follow all the rules of the CFPB and really do strive to treat our customers fairly.
Reward gift cards can be a different as those are often sold at a discount. So they might have fees after a certain point or other restrictions.
