I posted awhile back that my Secura pressure cooker was not always working correctly. Last night I tried to make a meal in it and it wouldn’t come to pressure so once again I was researching prices on an IP. Target has the 8qt duo on sale for $59, which seemed like a good price. I just want to make sure that is a good size and that I will be able to use any accessories in it like a trivet, springform pan, etc. Thoughts on this? Or should I get a different model? I wasn’t really wanting to spend the money on it right now but I would rather lay half off now than wait until next month and pay full price.

For me personally the 8-quart would be too big. But I think elaine has an 8-quart so she'll probably have a different opinion. Definitely buy the Duo though, not the Lux. The Lux only has high pressure and doesn't do yogurt. Even if you think you'll never make yogurt, you just might.

The 8qt compared to the 6qt is taller more than it is wider (but not the same width). The inserts don't feel tiny in the 8qt and in fact the circles of the trivets are the same size--the 8qt trivet handles are bent about an inch from the bottom so that the handles are flush to the sides instead of angling to the sides.
For 6 people I would probably just go with the 8qt. I'm glad I got the 8qt last year because I've started making broth after cooking chickens/turkeys/ducks. Plus for some soups the extra space is good. My only regret is that I now see an IP/Air Fryer combo--that would have been nice because I want an air fryer but am out of room for appliances.

I have 6 qt and 8qt. I think one is Lux and one is Duo but not sure. I love the 8 quart. It's just DH and me here... but if I'm gonna cook I make plenty and share with friends or freeze some.
What a terrific price!

If you buy ribs at Costco, buy the 8 quart! (or if you have four sons, including teenagers )

I think the 8qt is huge but I don’t have a family of 6 so that’s probably the right size. I love the Duo model. I like the handle and the lid better than on other models.

I had that 8 qt for a hot second and took it back. If you’ve not had any other instant pot before (the brand), it will be fine. For me there were too many changes from the earlier IP which is what I’m used to.
***Ignore me*** I had a different pot.

We have our original 6 qt at our lake cabin and an 8 qt now at home for the three of us and it’s good. I wish we had another 8 qt for the cabin because the 6 qt is limited in what we can do with it especially if we’re cooking for a crowd. The thing is, you can still cook a small amount of food in a larger one but you can’t cook a large amount of food in a smaller one. All of the trivets and accessories that fit in the 6 qt also fit in the 8 qt so that wouldn’t be an issue.
I would think for your family an 8 qt would work out well. And $59 for that size is a great price, I’d jump on that. I think we paid about $90-100 for ours when that size went on sale on Prime Day a few years back.

I've never seen an 8qt priced that low so I'd probably jump on it. I'm generally okay with my 6qt, but that's tempting me too lol.

Mine often is leaking as it comes to pressure - but I just take off top and shake it then screw back on and it works perfectly.
Have you tried to take off and put on top when the pressure is leaking?
I thought this was a common issue.

Can you expand on this? What earlier model do you have?

I actually just looked at which one Target has on sale and it's not the 8 I had. The one I had and returned was this linkIt wasn't compatible with any of the extra parts from my 8 I had broken (the pot, lid, valve are all different). I didn't like the knob dial and I was always forgetting to push start. But the one on Target's sale is different so ignore me

With 4 boys and 2 adults, 8 quart is perfect! I use my 8 quart regularly - I just used it in the past week to make Beef Vegetable Soup, Chicken Broth (from carcasses) and Brisket.

@~summer~ I have a different brand. It seems to get close to pressure (I can hear it boiling inside and I can't take the lid off) but then just beeps and says "end" as if it was done. Last night I tried three or four times and it wouldn't come to pressure any of the times. I ended up taking the food out and put it in the fridge. Put it in the crock pot today.

I think as it is coming to pressure, before it locks but when you can hear it boiling you should take off and reattach lid and see if that fixes it.

@~summer~ sometimes when that happens I can push down on the lid and it stops escaping. But the lid won't come off when it is at that point. Tonight I used it for rice and it worked fine.
I picked up the IP and realized that they gave me the 6qt instead of the 8qt. Ugh.

I really want that Ninja Air Fryer and Insta Pot the price right now is excellent, too. It's usually over $200. I love to steam or simmer meat or potatoes then crisp them up, and the Ninja would be perfect for that. I saw a YouTube video where a woman named Vivian Tries different products that does reviews. I'd give my old insta pot to my mom. She'd love it.
