Hi, I'm looking at some "recipes" online and thinking about making some body scrubs for Christmas gifts. Have you done this before? Hard? Easy? Bad idea? lol

Last year I made a bunch of jars of coconut lime sugar scrub. It was super easy and a big hit! I whipped it up in about 15 minutes in my Kitchenaid mixer.

I've been wanting to make some scrubs for gifts the last couple years and haven't gotten around to it. I would love to see the recipes you girls have used that are tried and true. The coconut lime sounds wonderful!

I can't remember the exact measurements but it was something like 1 cup of coconut oil to 1/2 cup of sugar. I used coarse raw sugar so it took on natural brown color. I also added a few drops of lime extract.
I found my recipe on Pinterest!
ETA, not lime extract! Lime ESSENTIAL OIL. My bad! I bought mine at a health food store.

I have been on the receiving end. Last Christmas, I received coconut sugar scrub. The coconut oil made my tub and shower both a slippery slimy mess. The sugar made me get ants. I had to really clean my tub or shower immediately after using the scrub. I pitched it in the trash after a couple of weeks.

What did you package them in?

I packaged them in small mason jars.

Yes I made sugar scrubs. They were easy and well received. I used glass jars. Repurposed and from Hobby Lobby. I got my recipes on Pinterest too. My sil made me salt scrubs and they were nice too.

I made some last year for my nieces. They liked the scents and the packaging but it started to "spoil" and mold a couple of weeks later. I thought that was odd considering I only used liquid hand soap and regular sugar to make them (quick and easy recipe found on many sites). I don't think I'll make them again.

I made them using coffee grounds, sugar and oil. I packaged them in plastic jars from the Container store.

Since you asked, personally, I would put this in the "bad idea" category.
I find it interesting that the thread on some of the most hated gifts included lots of entries about scents: candles, bath stuff, perfume/cologne. This is the type of gift where I would thank the giver profusely, think kind thoughts about their thoughtfulness and effort, and probably pitch it. There are many scents mentioned here I wouldn't like. I can pick up a body scrub at Walmart for about $3 or $4.
