We are into 2021, and hoping for a better year for our nation and the world. Many of us have been cooped up for months, or are essential workers that are beyond exhausted in how work has changed, or we are somewhere in-between! Some have moved and all your supplies are stacked hither and yond in boxes. Some of us have an entire scrapbook/card stamping store in our craft space (guilty!), others a tiny corner in a NYC apartment. Whatever your organization challenge is, you are welcome to share here! Welcome to the new Organized 2PeasRefugees scrap challenge. It does not matter where you are in your journey of organizing you are welcome to join us and do a little or do a lot! A rule of thumb I like to keep in mind is: It should only take three moves to find what you want. One of the reasons all my punches moved from tackle boxes stacked on each other into plastic storage drawers. More on this particular item later in the year. Find a system that works for you and your space. How do you scrap and shop your supplies? Is your space tiny or a whole room? Do you live where there special considerations such as flooding or dust? There is not one way that is better than another, just what is best for your style and needs! This challenge is to encourage you to work towards a more organized crafting life, so that you can find what you purchased when you want to use it! If you are on a team for the team challenges you can claim 10 points for each hour spent. The time does not need to be consecutive. Bonus of 1 point for each before and after photo. The following tasks will count towards the crafting organization: • Cleaning up after your latest crafting session (ie desk before, desk after) • Scrubbing or vacuuming the floor in your space. Dusting your space (I live in the desert next to a dirt road so this is a regular event ) • Organizing a supply or completely re-doing your entire space. • Sorting, editing, backing up, or ordering photos. • Setting up page kits for photos or organizing the ones that you get as a monthly subscription with photos. • Essentially anything that is related to crafting that needs to be done to “spark joy”! (I’m not necessary a huge Marie Kondo fan . . . but she does have some good ideas!) For the month of January, there are many organizational items on sale: furniture, cases, containers you name it. Get your organizational mojo going and pick one thing in your stash that is really calling to you to organize. If there is a storage solution for your stash now is a good time to purchase it. (Like the Michael’s version of a washi storage case . . . love mine!) The BONUS CHALLENGE for the month is solid color cardstock . . . 20 points per hour spent on this particular supply. FYI throughout the year I will challenge you to another specific supply or tool. My example is organizing my solid color cardstock into ROYGBIV order. Full disclosure, I completed the first round last April, but am super pleased with the result! I had my cardstock in several different places from the original Crop in Style Paper Taker, to Tim Holtz separate, and all the rest in vertical organization folders. Just doing it like this has saved me a ton of time in finding just the right color cardstock, especially for base layers. My plan for myself for this month is to add in the glitter, pearlized, and solid embossed that are still in separate folders. My rational? I might use these papers more if they are in the ROYGIV files, and I happen upon them as I “shop for colors” instead of going for them specifically.
I would also challenge you to organize your scraps of solid color cardstock. If you are like me, if it can be used for a punch or die later on, it is worth saving. But you may not keep anything smaller than 4” x 4” (or for our international peas 10 cm by 10 cm!). Here are examples of how I store scraps. This is particularly useful when I am making cards. ROYGBIV small scraps by Neva Cole, on Flickr Top view small cardstock scraps by Neva Cole, on Flickr I also have this for the 8.5” x 11” paper that is at least 27 years old! Does its job well, so no need to replace this system. Also organized in ROYGIV on one side and themed 8.5” x 11” printed paper. You can see my smaller scraps in the basket below. F16566BC-1612-40CD-A54F-74A368C8C403 by Neva Cole, on Flickr AND FINALLY, I am also going to add in a few more side challenges that I know I need to do . . . the first one up? REALLY deep clean my refrigerator! Wouldn’t you know it, just New Year’s Eve and article popped up in my email from Family Handyman Hints and tips with a bunch of organization ideas, and one was cleaning the frig. SO for bonus points, 20 per hour go ahead, get that dreaded chore done! Now’s the time after all that holiday cooking and left over storage! Here is a great link to How to Clean Your Refrigerator (and keep it clean).Good luck ladies (and gents too). Let’s make 2021 a great year to organize, simplify, and minimize our lives. (Well, within reason, we can never have too many craft supplies can we?)
This is my before photo of cardstock, hopefully I can complete my own challenge in January!

Thank you - I'm currently decluttering/purging my scrap space in preparation for packing it and moving it.
I've had my cardstock and PP by colour for years - it really works well for me. Last year I bought plastic envelopes and cut off the flaps to use for scrap storage (also by colour - I do need to go through and downsize a bit in those)

I just got a cameo for Christmas so I need to reorganize some things to make room for it so this is very timely for me!
I have most of my paper sorted by color, but I have card stock and patterned paper combined. I need to separate a few kits that are mostly used up and put those papers in the color envelopes.

Great post angel97701! You are inspiring me. My CS is pretty organized like this already, and my scraps too are colour organized in baggies. One of the only organized parts of my scrapspace! My current challenge is pp and current supplies. I don't want to put them in with the older stuff because I'll forget about them. They need to stay in collections because that's how I scrap (I can't do ROYGBIV with collections/pps). I love shopping my older pp, but it's a LOT. And may I politely ask how you knew my fridge was a mess???

And may I politely ask how you knew my fridge was a mess??? My patterned paper is mostly in collections as well, and the coordinating cardstock (say back when Embellish It! put together a set of matching cardstock to go with the different collections they sold), stays with the collection until it is used up. My collections are in themes. But I do have some ancient Hot of the Press Paper that I put in ROYBIV order because they weren't really coordinates. The top shelf shows most of the collections. I have a few specialty collections stored in Iris cases, such as Christmas, sports, Travel, and Page kits. It is embarrassing how much paper I have!
Remember the goal is to organize in a way that helps you the most to shop your supplies more quickly. The bonus challenge was for solid color cardstock as it was an easy place to start. We will have different challenges for bonus points each month!
You may notice that I mentioned my fridge was in need of a deep cleaning . . . as in, all the parts come out and are cleaned, etc. It was a way for me to get it done this month! I figured I wasn't the only one!

All of my paper is well organized except I have many 6x6 pads that need a home. I need to fix that issue. I also have a Clip-it Up that I am in the midst of redoing. I moved to a new studio in January 2020 so a lot is done but there is always room for improvement. Right now it is cluttered from Christmas. I need a good clean!

I love this! My cardstock starts out by color but never stays that way for long and my scraps....well they are thrown in a tray, just one on top of another on top of another. So I will accept that challenge this month! I keep PP by collection with all the embellishments with it. That is how I scrap, so that won't change. I do want to use more of my colored cardstock, so maybe adding a few sheets to those collections will help. And man, yes, deep cleaning the fridge has been on the to do list for awhile lol.

I know that mine becomes the dumping ground for many things before I get it cleaned out!

The scraps are in quart size freezer ziplocs. For many years I had them on rings, but found the basket system to work better. I do have a pile, and then on occasion I sort through and put them in either card kits with matching patterned paper, or they go into the "maybe they will be later" zip locks.

I was overwhelmed by choices for organizing goals this month but this challenge helped narrow down at least my scrap room goal. And how did you know my fridge has been pushed to the bottom of my to do list for the past few weeks? I conquered both the house and garage fridge/freezer this morning. It was lonnnnng overdue.

I bought a plastic box for organising my cards, card blanks, and envelopes yesterday - it's perfect now I cut the lid off, lol. Cards are all organised by theme and then I have blank cards and envelopes at the back.

Did ROYGBIv 7 solid collections last night. Photos to follow, I may be silent for a few days as we are traveling to see my parents for a few days. My chest freezer was deep cleaned a week ago just before we brought home 350 pounds of home grown Black Angus beef. Still have the house fridge though . . . . I am glad this has been an inspiration!

My new cart for my cameo arrived today so I spent 1.5 hr going thru stacks of old school papers that were in the spot i was planning to put it.
How do you organize your scraps? I have a ton of scraps and I do reach for them on the majority of my LO. Right now they are sorted by color (card stock and pp together) in 12x12 plastic envelopes and I’m just not sure I love that anymore. Maybe I just need to purge out of them and that would help. 🤔

I started organizing my CS in ROYGBIV at the start of the pandemic so will try to finish up. One of my fave chores is cleaning my fridge so I’ll totally jump on board with that one. Saw this www.instagram.com/reel/CJmkZH1pQt6/?igshid=johcc20hl21n on my IG feed tonight and thought it might work for my punches so I’ll look for a suitable tray and boxes/dividers to create something similar.

Thankfully DH cleaned the fridge last week...if I leave it long enough he will get disgusted and do it...psychology at work! Anyway...I did this, was so excited, I ordered the vent covers and then used an old piece of laminate we had and hot glued the magnetic covers to it. They were a little lumpy-not sure how to better attach them. Tried ATG and it came off right away. I used 3m Velcro command strips to adhere to the wall. I do have a couple more dies but they go with stamp sets, so I don't want to separate them. I love seeing everyone's organization...I need some advice for my small chalk inks. They are a hot mess! Edited to add, I would advise against buying the grey Darice dies. They have a chalky black film on them that goes all over my paper and makes the edges blacken when I use them. I can only use those dies with very dark paper. Not sure if that was just a bad die set I got. insert code here

Just a quick note about storage containers etc . . . Scrapbook.com has a sale going on, as does Michaels and Joanns. My favorite is the Washi tape storage at Michaels . . . just a thought and a little enabling!

Went through my scrapbook drawers - reorganised the bigger drawers(wooden stamps/inks/acrylic blocks in the bottom, punches and my tiny mixed media collection in the middle, and adhesives and small tools on the top. Went through the smaller drawers - tossed the alpha sheets with no vowels (top), sorted the eyelets and brads by colour (middle), and got rid of some stuff and tidied the rest (ribbons/washi/random embellies - bottom drawer).

Wow you are on a roll! I made my own card organization box 2 nights ago. I wanted it large enough to hold slimline cards too. We received a bunch of cards from charities we donate to . . . and I wanted them organized instead of just in a box. Then when DH or DS need a card for something they can use those! LOL. My handmade cards are also in there . . . but I have some ancient ones that I keep as archives and also ones never sent that should be put in the box. It's a normal storage box that I had a stack of chipboard that was very close to fitting perfectly. I made dividers and used my envelope punch board to make tabs . . . right now they have stickies on them as I wanted to make sure I had enough (nope, need to make a few more) as I made the labels as I went. Again photos to follow when I get more caught up.
Finally getting Christmas down, I know I'm later than most but with a Russian son I figure Jan 8th isn't bad because Father Frost and the Frost Maiden come on the 8th, LOL! Actually business guests and colonoscopy took precedence this week truth be told. Two trees down, one to go. Two nice nativities to pack up and window clings mostly. I did about a third of what I usually do for Christmas decorating because I didn't have the energy before Christmas. Now I have less to pack up. DH and DS "let" me pack the ornaments, then they take care of the trees. Didn't intend on three trees, I just wanted a new one for the LR, and DS decided he would put up the old one in his school room. Yep, we had enough ornaments for three tree. I think next year I will make some ornament balls with glitter and PearlEx with DS just for his tree. Ah plans, we will see if it happens!

Linda, yep there is always one thing! Got the third tree undecorated and packed away. Have only two nativities up this year, so those won't take long. So can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
Oh my goodness, I went down that rabbit hole! Found all of the cards I've made and not sent since 1997 . . . some of them are techniques I need to try again! Others not so much. My box is TOO full, out came the free printed cards. Also organized all those envelopes that I bought at discount and to fit A2 cards. Still need a bit more organization with the cards that have no sentiments, but will sort by seasonal colors or something, so I can add sentiments as needed.

Finally back with before and after photos: First up the cardstock.
Then Linda inspired me to finish up organizing my cards . . . didn't remember I had them stashed in about 4 different places, now all in one place and more likely to get a stamp and actually be sent!
And since I had business guests last week my frig got filled up . . . needs to be a bit more empty before I tackle it, maybe tomorrow or Friday? I guess I have a few more days before the end of the month! LOL!

Someone was asking about scraps organization. This works well for me and allows me to save the smallest scraps. I go to my scraps all the time and use them for backing cut files quite a bit. This rolling basket that houses all my color folders was bought at Target. The page protector has the smallest scraps in it and I keep one in each color family folder. Since blue encompasses lots of colors, I broke it down to light blue, dark blue, and turquoise folders. Same for most other colors (light a dark). I can find what I want fairly quickly and it’s easy to maintain.

I ordered record sleeves on Amazon and they are perfect for organizing and protecting my 12 x 12 papers. I went through 200 sleeves and I love how they’re not bulky and individual sheets don’t slip down and get damaged anymore.

Wow, great job coloradocropper . I would have never thought of record sleeves, but my patterned paper is happy where it is now and in general categories like yours. It is always fun to see different ways for storing scraps. Mine is pretty similar, and I do have light and dark for blues and greens too!

We wait until after the Epiphany to take down also and I just realized this week we still have two nativities out!
