I used a carabiner clip to attach the lint roller to under the shelf. This got me thinking, a lot of us probably have wire shelving. How else could we think differently? I don’t need this for anything off the top of my head, but just an idea... you could clip buckets or a basket or something under the shelves. Just playing around in case anyone else can use it.

Repaired the blanket from our bed using an old pillow case which I attempted to quilt on.
I suck at sewing. It is a serious eyesore. However, I am tired of replacing the damn sheets and blankets because DH yanks and tugs until he eventually tears holes in them.
Also, cleaned off the office desk and have everything ready for the taxes to be taken to the accountant.

I donated a bunch of shoes and boots I will never wear. They were in boxes and taking up a lot of space. I also purged a pressure cooker that I didn’t use. It was nice but I use my instant pots snd never use it snd it was big 8 qts. Went through and found a bunch of odds and ends that got buried in the garage. All gone. So basically a trunk load of stuff out. I have a long ways to go and this was all easy stuff but every little bit helps. This was a good week to get rid of stuff.

Tossed a trashbag full of miscellaneous stuff yesterday from around the house. Just a bunch of small stuff that was cluttering. A huge portion of it being the little STEM-like activities that the school teacher assigned the kids to do. It's great to try to learn hands on, but there is not much use for a little pig's house made of paper towel roll, popsicle sticks, construction paper, and play doh.
With the kids home this whole past year, it has been incredibly difficult to do any real purges of junk toys. I strangely look forward to September when the kids return to in person school, so that I can do a thorough clean.
I've been very mindful to not excessively shop for myself. I've been using down scrapping supplies. Haven't bought make up just because it's a name brand at Dollar Tree (When's the last time I even put on makeup?). I've resisted all of the gnomes that are apparently so trendy right now that they can be found at every store.

I skipped over a pair of shoes the other day that would have gone perfectly with my outfit because they aren’t really comfortable. Ding, ding, ding. The light came on. I grabbed a shopping bag and quickly found 5 items in my closet to donate. And I pare down regularly... or at least think I do! There’s always more that can be done.

I'm back a bit with getting rid of stuff. Went through my closets this morning and took a big White garbage bag full of clothes out of the closet, and into the bag for the Vets who are coming tomorrow! So, I guess I'm back on the wagon. It felt kind of good. I'll see how good it feels when I look for the stuff I just got rid of I guess!!

Does it count as decluttering if I just set it aside for DS29 to get next time he visits us or we visit him? 4 cast iron frying pans and a pressure canner - none of which will work on my new-to-me glass top stove but that he can and probably will use (his new house has a gas stove). Question- why would they not work on your glass top? I have used my cast iron on my glass top for years and never had an issue. I'm just careful to set them down gently.

Inadvertently decluttered a blender today because I killed it due to user error, I think. Or the plastic/rubber material had broken down due to age and seeing little use. The jar thing has a metal x that engaged with a piece in the base, which was responsible for the turning the blades. The metal x melted the piece it was supposed to engage with. Bit bummed.

my dh is a clutter buster.. and i always struggle with it. have a good thought for him.. his sister suddenly died (age 68) and he is spending the week helping his mom deal with it. apparently, her trailer looks like a homeless camp or a hoarder's stash. he is trying to convince the family to hire people to clean it out. so I'm sure this image will make him even more supportive of me spending time getting rid of stuff and organizing. as long as he leaves me alone, I can do it. and then i get my son to help out.. he is also just like most of his generation willing to let stuff go. they support me keeping historical stuff and pictures..
getting rid of stuff for many of us is a mind game.. I will have no grandchildren so I am getting more and more motivated to get rid of stuff.

Hopefully your DH will be more supportive. Dealing with both of our parents homes was all it took for DH to get on board with decluttering and getting rid of stuff.

After learning that eBay will be required to submit 1099K to any seller with over $600 in sales to the IRS, priorities have shifted with my eBay pile. You will get that 1099K, even if you are only selling off your own used items. Sure, you can also write off expenses/costs of those items...provided you have receipts to back it up. So much of this stuff is old, inherited stuff, things we purchased 20+ years ago, and lots of items from our time overseas. Receipts don't exist for this stuff, and even if they did it creates more work than it is worth. All of a sudden eBay has become a non-starter for me - and for many who use it in lieu of a garage sale. There are a couple of things I will list in the next few weeks, but a bunch of it will be donated now. I've already filled up a large shopping bag with some craft items.
I have so much nice fabric so will investigate some of the de-stash groups online. If anyone has suggestions for fabric, pyrex or old book de-stash groups, please share!

we decluttered some flourescent lights tonight - we had had them replaced with LED lights and DH just stuck them in the shed to figure out what to do with them but today he was talking with a coworker who needs to replace some at his house...coworker picked them up tonight!
put some small (1/2 cup) Rubbermaid containers in the donation pile, tossed some cleaning rags that had outlasted their usefulness, and put a bunch of flannel washcloths into the donation pile. Left a plastic shelfing unit by the kerb last night and it has found a new home.
We've started moving stuff over from the shed to the new house. I'm taking the opportunity to go through every single box from my side with an aim to downsizing some of it. That starts tomorrow with the boxes we brought back tonight. I know the extra canning jars will be going to DS - I need to find out how many and what size he wants and then decide if I need to find an additional recipient.

You will get that 1099K, even if you are only selling off your own used items. This gave me pause, since I've just sold over $600 worth of items in the last 3 weeks! I checked online, and as always, it depends. eBay 1099K form issued if: * You received more than $20,000 in gross payments, and * You had more than 200 payment transactions See the link for the list of states with minimum reporting thresholds lower than those above. I've got online receipts, but not items I bought locally. I keep a running Google Sheet of sold items, what I paid, fees, etc. It adds a couple of minutes to each sale, but it should cover me for the IRS if I add a link to the online receipt in my Gmail. I'm very excited to have listed, sold and shipped 20 items. Still have 12 unsold I probably need to drop the price on. eBay's shipping calculator is as wonky as ever. My March goals are barely touched - shipping 20 items took up what little spare time I had: - Goodwill drop of the items at the bottom of the basement stairs
- sort the table of possible eBay items in the basement
- list the rest of the American Girl items on eBay - they sold the fastest and are taking up the most space
- list the planner items on eBay
We're going to begin spring cleaning this weekend. I'm sure that will shake loose some other items to donate. ETA Facebook Marketplace has been a bust for selling for me. Listed a bunch of larger toys and only had 2 sales, and lots of flakes and weird Middle Eastern spam contacts.

simplyparticular - You've been making great progress it seems! Way to go! It's good to hear that AG dolls are still hot. I'm not parting with DD's right now, but have an underbed box filled with Polly Pocket sets, My Little Ponies and Barbies w/accessories to get rid of. eBay 1099K form issued if: * You received more than $20,000 in gross payments, and * You had more than 200 payment transactions See the link for the list of states with minimum reporting thresholds lower than those above. That has been the case in the past. The $20,000 amount is being lowered to $600, due to a clause that was included in the American Rescue Plan (aka current Covid relief package) that was signed by Pres. Biden this week. In doing a little more reading about this, it appears the change may not take effect until 1/1/22. If I can get that confirmed, I will be listing like crazy to get rid of my stuff! got a load of cardboard to the recycling yesterday and will take another load today
a friend picked up two big bags of Girl Scout stuff, a jacket that never fit DD14 (it'll go in a coat closet at school), and a big roll of paper (she'll use in her classroom). Okay she dropped off stuff too but it was frozen shrimp and some half-empty seed packets and some seed potatoes - all consumable stuff.
and sadly one of my cube storage units I bought got broken (irrepairably) during assembly so it'll go out in tomorrow's trash pick up.
oh and I tossed some cloth napkins that were completely worn out and am working on replacements - one set done, one in progress, and the fabric is prewashed for the other two.

Sorry about your new cube storage unit. I am nearing the end of the massive wardrobe purge/organization. The donation pile is now huge! Forcing myself to try on things and DH is giving me his honest opinion. It's going to be nice to go buy new clothes this year and not have to squeeze it in. I didn't realize quite how much of older stuff (15-20 years old) that I was still hanging onto. There were a few things that I was still wearing, but in all honesty they were dated and needed to go. Working on the lingerie, accessories (scarves - I have a problem ) and shoes. Will get it wrapped up later this evening.

Took a load of broken down boxes to a recycle drop off as I had too many to fit in my recycling cart. Donated some stuff from my craft room/guest room. Got the major reorganization done in my craft room. Still have things to sort and label within the containers they are in now, but the guest room part is usable now, which is important as I’m having knee replacement surgery on Wednesday and my sister will be here helping me at first.

We’re doing some spring cleaning at our lake house this weekend. I took everything out of the pantry and threw out the expired stuff. I wrote the expiration date on everything that was left in big print w/ a sharpie so I won’t have to read the fine print at the end of the summer. I also cleaned out the master bathroom storage cabinet.

Wardrobe Update: Finished! It took working on it for two days, but I'm happy with the results. Tallied what got donated/trashed and 61 items will be leaving this week. My wardrobe and drawers are organized and - gasp! - there is some empty space! Not a ton but it's there. Now I know where the gaps that need to be filled with my spring/summer clothing choices. Still need to work on the purses and costume jewelry, but that will have to wait for another day. I'm exhausted!

worked some more in the garage with the boxes from the old shed - emptied 4 totes today and sorted out two more for the attic. Found the guest bedding from ...some years ago...washed it and decided to add to the donation pile. Found 18 frisbees - washed those and will give to my teacher friend. Washed a bunch more Fisher Price Little People buildings - once it's all washed, I'll put some on display, store some, and sell or donate the rest.
Washed out the empty totes - the functional ones will return to rotation, the ones with broken or missing lids will become my donation bins.

I have always loved this thread. Happy to find it again.
We've seriously purged during this last year at home. We got rid of all the excess stuff in the garage, called for two electronics and chemical recycling pick-ups, and we've taken multiple carloads of donations to Goodwill. Then- my son bought a condo and moved out in December- and I swear, half of the house left with him. My husband turned his room into an office, I turned the rec room into a sewing studio and it seems like every room in the house picked up breathing room. It's crazy.
Our goals for the Spring and Summer are: Put up closet organizers in the kids' bedrooms (kid + office, now). Paint the office and get the furniture set up the way he wants it. We'll probably move a couple of things home from his real office. He has too much crap over there. Put up a partial wall of pegboard in the garage (and hopefully have a remnant of pegboard I can frame to use in my sewing space) and get everything sorted to a permanent place on the wall. Organize what's left into labeled bins, in shelves on one wall. Pressure wash the porch and patio.
