Just looking for a portable printer. One I can use with an apple phone and apple laptop and take to crops. 4x6 and a few other smaller sizes. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you

The Epson PM400. I love mine! The prints are amazing, it’s super simple to set up. It prints 3 1/2x5, 4x6 and 5x7. It’s about the size of the last Harry Potter book (ha) and I can fit it in my purse.

Yes, the Epson PM 400. It can do 5 x 7 and 4 x 6. If you use the PL app, you can print all of those smaller pictures (up to 6 - 2x2 pics). The Selphy is really easy to use and the ink comes in the photo paper packs, but it doesn't print true 4 x 6 pictures and the edges are perforated.

Another Epson PM-400 user. Combined with the Epson Creative Print app, there are dozens of configurations to print your photos, with or without a border!

Do these ever go on sale, or is 249 pretty much the standard price? (right now on Amazon)

The biggest advantage of the Picturemate PM400 seems to be that you have flexibility in what type of paper and size you print. Right now you only need 4x6 and smaller, but if you switch projects in 2024 and start Travelers Notebooks or some other cool size/format the PM400 will still be useful. If you want to print a 5x7 calendar as a gift you can do it. And you can print on whatever paper you like. It's a lot more flexible, but the tradeoff is size and price. The slightly smaller than 4x6 size of the Selphy would drive me crazy too, especially in pocket pages. Most 4x6 pockets are wide anyway, so the 5.8" or whatever random size the Selphy actually prints at once you remove the perforated bits leaves a gap in the pockets that I can't tolerate. I also hate perforated edges. (I'm finicky. Your mileage may vary).

My older Selphy does not work with my new Macbook, even before the update to Big Sur. Thank goodness it still works with the old Macbook.
Also see that some people are having trouble with the PM 400 and Big Sur.
I hate when companies just abandon their older products, when they still work and you can still get refills.

I am trying to get away from just buying more paper (although I love paper) as my scrappy shopping for completing my 50 pages before spending challenge, and if I could get this for 129, that sounds like it might be quite the amazing reward!

Another PM 400 person here! I got mine two years ago and it has changed the way I scrapbook! I love being able to print as I go and choose the sizing. I also recommend fhe Epson photo paper. I usually use the premium glossy as it prints nicely and is sturdy. I grabbed some of the regular canon paper and although it printed nicely it was so thin! It bothered me even though it was much less expensive.

I've been researching 4x6 printers - every model was sold out during the holidays. I've watched a lot of scrapper reviews of both models mentioned and want to buy one that will be supported with refills for many years.
Epson is an inkjet and needs to be used fairly regularly to prevent printhead damage. The PM 400 is still a current model. Epson seems to be committed to their PIctureMate line and still sells refills for the older models. Canon Selphy 1300 is dye-sublimation so doesn't require regular use. There seem to be complaints about skin tones - it handles the middle well, but not the pale or darker tones. The odd print size - Heba/My Little Journal trims her photos to 4x6, ignoring the perforations - I wouldn't have know from her videos if she didn't mention it. They also seem to still support most of the recent Selphy models.
Kodak Dock Plus is also dye-sublimation - it has mixed reviews on Amazon, and was also sold out through the holidays. It's only been out 2 years.
HP Sprocket Studio is their first dye-sublimation 4x6 printer. HP has taken it off their web site, so it might be discontinued. And of course, that's the one that I had settled on....don't know if they have a new model to replace it or have given up on 4x6 printers? All their other ones are the Zink mini printers.
Thanks to everyone with the Mac notes - I'm testing Big Sur now but still have a Catalina volume, and my old iMac working again with Sierra with a new hard drive..

Actually the newest Epson PM-400 is unlike their previous models (I've owned 2 of them). There is no clogging of the printheads or the ink drying out if you don't regularly use it. I have gone 6+ months without printing a photo only to have it print perfectly.

The peas love the PM400. But I (and a few peas) love the Selphy.
It's much smaller. But the prints aren't as saturated by default. But I love the colors, I don't like the super saturated look. Also, the paper, after you tear off the tabs, is less than 4x6. That doesn't matter to me because I always mat my photos when using pocket pages. When not using pocket pages, I just make sure they're the same size as each other. I also like that it's dye sublimation, so the pics are waterproof and easy to stamp/write on.
For me, size wins it. It just depends on what you need/works for you. I think they're both a great option.

I keep debating if I eventually want to make the switch to this mini printer and sell my selphy.
I have the selphy and it's a newer/wifi one. But the smaller prints does annoy me, and the funky sized borders. What drives me nuts is the fact that 2x2 sized photos (on a 4x6) are not 2x2. so they print/fit weird in PP.

Actually the newest Epson PM-400 is unlike their previous models (I've owned 2 of them). There is no clogging of the printheads or the ink drying out if you don't regularly use it. I have gone 6+ months without printing a photo only to have it print perfectly. That's a really good thing to hear! I used to have so much trouble with an infrequently used printer (full sized inkjet, epson or hp). It would never print when we needed it, and we only needed it occasionally, but we REALLY needed it on those occasions. I print regularly now, but on principle I still want to know the darned thing will work even if I take a long break from it.

I have gone 6+ months without printing a photo only to have it print perfectly. That's interesting - the reviews on Amazon complained about the ink drying out in 6 months. I'm leaning toward this one or an Epson EcoTank full size printer for the colors. I preferred HP photo printers for years, but they seem to be pulling away from that market.

For those that live in places where Epson will not sell the PictureMate.... I purchased the Canon TR150 recently. It's cable or battery powered so completely portable. I used it at a crop over the weekend to work on my DD... and LOVED it...printed 6x8 photos, journalling on cardstock... everything I'd do on my pixma at home. 5 out of 5 stars!

I just got my epson photo mate and any advice would be appreciated!!! Never had a photo printer before. Usually do all 4x6 pics but am wondering how to do smaller if you can with this printer? Also, to hook up to my computer do I need a special wire or is it wireless?
