Maybe I'm grasping at straws here, but I just renewed my driver's license online because of the pandemic. Because I've already renewed twice in a row online my renewal was supposed to be in person this time. You know, to update my Nov 2006 photo. I sure did look younger, had more hair and less wrinkles 14 years ago. A friend renewed his license not too long ago. When the clerk asked "hair color?", he answered "brown". She paused, looked up at him, and said "I'm going to let you pick between white or gray. Brown is off the table." Have you experienced any unexpected positives because of the pandemic?

NJ extended vehicle inspections 4 months. A few weeks ago I drove up, they motioned me to drive right in. They took my papers etc, plugged in the computer thing, car passed and drove right out with my new sticker!
This in and was a first for me!!

I needed to renew mine too and was really surprised that I could do it online without the vision test or getting a new photo. (Not that either of those things would be an issue. My glasses that I wear to drive were new last year and I was glad to not need a new photo due to my Covid hairstyle—or lack thereof, LOL.) DH had to go transfer a title at the DMV and he said the wait for an appointment to get a license renewed was two months.

Time with my dogs has been the best pandemic positive. We had to put one of our three chihuahuas down the day after Christmas, kind of suddenly. He was old and not in great health, but took a drastic turn for the worse over the holiday.
I'm so glad I have had lots of puppy snuggle time. I love them so much!

I love all of the new curbside pick up options! Especially for garden and house stuff, having someone else gather it all and load it into my car.

My licence expires on 8th January, and when they sent me the renewal letter last month, they said that due to COVID they were not getting people to come in to get a new photo taken, so I will be keeping the exisiting photo. So yay, I still look like I'm 43yo and it's 2010! Where are my jowls? By the time I have to renew it again, I will be 63yo and still look 43.

Crap, I got my real ID DL just in January last year. With an appointment it was a 3 hour ordeal. Glad I just checked it. It is only good until Sept 2021. No fair!!

My mammogram + ultrasound appointment, which normally take 2 hours, only took 1/2 hour.

My oldest son will be home doing online learning for at least 3/4 of the year--which means he's home to bring in packages that get delivered before i get home from work! Once in awhile I can even get him to empty the dishwasher too...
I'm loving how so many restaurants have started doing online ordering--not necessarily so we can order online, but so we can see what they offer & what their prices are (especially the prices).

We are saving so much money! No eating out, no impulse purchases, no retreats, and so on. This is good because it means we were and are able to help younger daughter out with bills and the like as she goes through chemo and cannot work as much as she usually does.

My dog hurt her leg in February and ended up needing knee surgery. I was here to make sure that she was staying calm all day and to give her all the extra loves.
Since nobody is coming over and we don't care what our house looks like, we turned the family room into a movie theater with a projector and giant screen. It looks so ridiculous, but we watched Mandalorian as a family every week. AND...my 10 year old Star Wars ambivalent child is finally getting into Star Wars.

My friend and I realized that taking our lunch to Starbucks and sitting under the awning in the rain with food and a drink is totally enjoyable.
I have learned that walking in the rain is ok and that getting fresh air during the winter helps me sleep better. And all of that has made me realize that I shouldn’t be scared of a dog. I’ve always said I hate being outside in the winter. I don’t love it but I don’t hate it and now know that it’s good for me. So we have a puppy on the way this month and my kids are overjoyed.

bc2ca, I thought your thread title referred to a surprise positive Covid test. And you were saying it fancy-pantsy. I am relieved you have neither ailment.

In general, the pandemic has been full of positives for me. Many of my obligations outside the home just stopped at the same time I started dating a wonderful man. This afforded me more time to concentrate on my home, child, animals, and relationship at a time when I would have been run ragged. I started a new job working remotely (permanently) for a company that really didn't have remote work before all this, and they implemented remote work right, so it was a smooth, easy transition. I had a car accident due to a medical issue the week the day before everything moved remote here, and working from home allowed me the time to figure that out and purchase a car without the need to figure out transportation.
Don't get me wrong, the negatives are really negative, but life has been different in a good way.

DH prefers a certain brand of pants and jeans and a specific cut. Sometimes, we will have it shipped but it's nice to order it online and pick it up the next time we're in that area. Kohl's used to be a mess. Finding the right size meant digging through piles. Now with their dressing rooms closed, their stacks are neater. But it's nice to have someone else go looking for it and I can avoid walking past clothes that tell me I should buy them too.

I really enjoy working remotely, but have come to appreciate my one day in the office a week.
Spending time with my dogs, getting a new puppy at the beginning of quarantine gave me the ability to train her much more quickly.
Curbside pick up and delivery options. Especially delivery. I live in a semi-rural area and we used to have one pizza place that would deliver to our house. Now our opportunities are basically endless.
Focusing on home projects. We have remodeled a bit, redecorated, making better use of most of our space because we are home all the time. In the spring my backyard area will have a major overhaul, since I spent most of last summer there and will likely do the same this summer.
Outdoor eating. While I only ate out a few times this summer, I thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside.
I have learned how to use my instant pot (FINALLY) and am become a pro at baking bread.

same thing happened to me. I was actually excited I was getting a new picture because mine was awful. Went ahead and did it online because we were flying in September and wanted to make sure I had my real ID. So when we flew again in December they actually questioned why I didn't really look like my ID.... lol I was probably 50 lbs heavier, hair short and super blonde. So now I'm still stuck with a horrible photo that doesn't look like me anymore... lol

I have loved being at home with my kids more. I am also loving the lack of crowds when I go out now. I'm in Melbourne, and since we've come out of lockdown, there are caps on the number of people allowed in certain places. I love eating in quieter restaurants and doing kids activities with fewer people around. During lockdown I also loved seeing all the people in my neighbourhood out and about walking and bike riding. That's already going a little. Have to recognise the positives in times like these!
