I am not sure it matters, but it is just two of us, nothing fancy is needed, although my husband likes an ice maker and in the door water, although our water is hideously hard and I don't think it tastes any better that way, I prefer to filter it in a Brita pitcher.

We just got a Whirlpool a few months ago, and I love it. It has the bottom freezer, the middle drawer, and the French doors. It also has an ice maker/water dispenser in the left door. I got it at Lowes. We keep lunch meats, eggs, butter, dips, and cheese in the middle drawer.

I bought an LG. It's a standard fridge except the freezer is on the bottom and has a door not a drawer. I think the drawers take too much freezer room and prefer the door with shelves inside. I've had it for 3 years, like it and have no complaints.

Whirlpool, hands down
The repairman who serviced our old fridge said to avoid LG, Kenmore, Amana, and one more brand I can't remember.

We ordered a GE french door counter depth fridge to be delivered this weekend. We were limited in just going through Home Depot, so debated between LG, Frigidaire, and GE.
We didn't care for the history of reliability with the LG and liked the details of the GE vs. the Frigidaire.
I don't have any practical review, though, so am interested in reading any other reviews. We currently have a Samsung side-by-side which will be going into the garage for extra storage. We've had it for about 5 years and it's been ok-some issues with the icemaker but that's about all.

I just bought a Kitchen Aid Architect II Series...french door, freezer drawer on bottom, filtered water inside and not on door. I love it!

Kitchen Aid, love it. We previously had a samsung and it went out after 14 months. Thankfully we had purchased at Costco Home and even though Samsung didn't warranty it - costco did.

Avoid Frigidaire. We had one and the water dispenser leaked after just a couple of years. I called to have it repaired and the guy said that Frigidaires are notoriously bad.

We bought a KA French Door Architect II series last spring and are fighting w/ Whirlpool to replace it. We've had 6 major repairs to our refrigerator and it still doesn't work properly. Our repairman said to stay away from dual compressor technology. Said Whirlpool hasn't figured out how to build it correctly.

We have had horrible luck with GE appliances. When we bought this house, the builder used only GE. Within 2 years, we had to replace the dishwasher and the built in microwave. Within 5, we needed a new stove. We have all Kenmore appliances now. About 2 years ago we had to replace our original refrigerator after 24 years. It was a Frigidaire. I kept wishing it would die so that we could get a new one.

Appliances aren't built like the old days. Refrigerators used to last decades, now you're lucky if one lasts beyond 5 years without major repairs. We bought a Samsung French door with a Sateen finish (think stainless without the fingerprints). I love this refrig but about 13 months after we bought it it had problems. Unbelievably Samsung gave us a new one even though it was out of warranty. We put an extended warranty on the new one.

We'll never buy a whirlpool fridge again. Besides the fact that it took 3 units to get one that worked right, whirlpool cs is ridiculously horrible. Luckily Lowe's was awesome.

Stay away from Jenn-Air products!! My 2 year old (then brand new) stove and dishwasher are both currently in need of repairs!

We have a whirlpool with the freezer on the bottom and have had no problems in the two years we have had it. This whirpool replaced a whirlpool we had for 17 years that we lost with hurricane sandy. In the hurricane we lost our power for 12 days, when the power was attempting to come back on it was intermittent and the surges blew out the compressor.

For the love of all that's holy stay away from Frigidaire. I bought it ten years ago and I have had nothing but problems with it. I can't wait for it to totally fail so I can buy something else. I swear by GE and Amana.

We just bought a GE to replace our 17 year old GE side-by-side. I got the freezer on the bottom and french doors, ice maker in the door. We got it at a good discount because it was a factory second. It had some scratches on the interior on the back -- which you can't see as soon as you put food inside. So far, so good.
I like the filtered water, ice maker in the door, french doors, adjustable shelves. I also looked for one that didn't have two ice makers -- I didn't need to lose that much space in the freezer. Ours is cabinet depth (same as the old one.)
LG doesn't have many repair people in our area, so I stayed away from them.

We've had our GE fridge for 15 years now, and it's still going. But the way they make them now is not even the same as it was then.
It seems that everyone is going to the freezer on bottom now, but DH hates that (He's tall, so it's hard to stoop down.) But that seems to be all anyone is making right now.

And I dare say most people are harder on appliances these days than they used to be. We had a GE for 9 years...home buyers asked us to leave it w the house. Bought a new GE for the new house.

I have had a Kitchenaid for 10 years. No problems. I love my other KA appliances. It's the fridge with this new dual compressor technology that doesn't work right. I wish it did. I love my fridge, the look & layout is very nice...it just doesn't stay cold. I have had to throw away so much food bc our freezer has thawed out food w/o me realizing it.

I suggest you get the French doors plus separate pull out drawer with bottom freezer in whatever brand you go with. I have a Samsung and really, really like it. First ref. I've owned with water/ice in the door, and it is such a nice feature. And the separate pull out drawer is worth a bit more in price, I think.

I have an LG, French door, the freezer portion has 2 pull out drawers inside so nothing is too deep. I was concerned about getting a French door because I hate chest freezers. But, I do like my fridge. However, I also had issues with it and have used my extended warranty twice........once for the ice maker (they had to replace a large panel on the back) and once for the door piece that springs back and forth when opening and closing the fridge. I was able to manually hold the piece so that it would work until it was fixed. I bought mine at Home Depot. I was able to buy an extra 4 years (5 years total) of full warrnaty, no copay, 100% coverage, for $99. It was money well spent. I rarely buy an extended warranty but this was an expensive fridge and I have had terrible luck with ice makers in the last few fridges I have bought. I figured if I had to have the ice maker fixed once in that 5 years, the $99 warranty paid for itself.
Now ask Burning Feather how she likes her LG.

Last week I bought a Whirlpool French door from Lowe's for the new house. Kinda wanted water in the door, but not for an extra $200. This was on sale, and I'm thrilled. Although all that's been in it so far is one bottle of water. But it was kept cold!

After Maytag failed to stand behind their workmanship, I promised them that I'd take every opportunity to tell people to avoid their products.

We've always had Whirlpool, and we've always been happy with them, but since they are all we've ever had, I can't really say if anything else is better, kwim? They always seem to last a decent amount of time without any mishaps or annoyances.

I just bought a Kitchen Aid Architect II Series...french door, freezer drawer on bottom, filtered water inside and not on door. I love it! We have a slightly older model of the KitchenAid Architect series, french doors, freezer drawer on bottom, filtered water inside as well. I love how clean the front looks without an ice/water dispenser on the outside door. The water filter is very easy to replace as well.

We have an LG french door and have been very happy. There are only 2 of us. I don't know how happy I would be with the drawer freezer if there were more in the household.
