I agree with this. I think someone dropped the ball today, maybe on purpose maybe not. And I heard today that about 50 were arrested. They should have arrested a lot more. I wonder if “Q Shaman” got arrested? He is the guy in the buffalo headwear with face paint. He is a QAnon person and goes to all these “protests”. They showed him today up on the platform in the chamber. As an outsider (reading the news in Norway), this is what surprises me the most. It seems like so few were arrested, and that there’s no consequence of their actions. I had the same feeling after the armed men stormed the other building that time. Was it in Michigan? Maybe they were sent to jail, but those news never reached Norwegian newspapers? More likely that all they got was a pat on the back. Had they been POC, they would have been gunned down.

I will add that if these ones are not arrested and charged I’m going to be angry. Why the hell wasn’t that whole mob arrested yesterday? What an injustice

My DH has mused about how many Russian spies were masquerading as Trumpsters as they breached the Capitol today. That's pretty terrifying. No doubt the Pentagon is floored and alarmed. I said that too!

Something else about today’s events that is bothering me. Did we show the whole world that we cannot secure our own capitol building? Not a single terrorist got hurt. Cops got hurt and are in the hospital. House and senate folks are together with republican members not wearing masks so it is now a super spreader ever t. I guess I am just rambling....ggggggg what about the one who was shot and died as a result?

It was too easy! I hadn’t even thought about spies...Russian, Chinese, Iranian and who ever else. How many computers were copied? Bug placed? Scary stuff? And then the fact that the trump guy didn’t call in the NG. Remember too that he put his loyalists in the Pentagon. Our national security. It was just too easy. The other thing was how fast they said that the capital was secure after the mob left. Did they all leave? What did they leave behind? So many questions.Too many questions. For LE there was No riot gear, no flash bangs, hardly any tear gas or pepper spray (til the end). They had no issue pepper spraying child at BLM protest. I truly believe it was a planned invasion.

It did suck. There is going to be a thorough investigation, and hard questions will be asked. Security will be over the top for the inauguration. But yeah, heads are gonna roll. Poor police coverage, poor intelligence-it was a disgrace. Not as disgraceful as the “Patriots” who broke into the Capitol, though.
Good news-the FBI is looking at pictures and video, and requesting info on the identity of the seditionists. Some Magats are gonna have a baaaad year.

The Capitol police was overwhelmed by the numbers of protesters. It’s unfortunate that someone had to die, but I think that got that particular area under control quickly. I don’t think you should illegally enter any building or break property that doesn’t belong to you anywhere . I hope he yelled for them to stop so he doesn’t get into trouble. They knew not to rush the Capitol, so they accepted the risk at that point

There needs to be an investigation on why security was left to the relatively small Capital Police - who don't even appear to have been a full strength yesterday. Everyone knew it was going to happen. Why there was not a coordinated response between agencies as is typical when a large event is planned in DC absolutely needs to be investigated and whoever is responsible fired if not jailed.

Did we show the whole world that we cannot secure our own capitol building? Did you see any furniture that tempts you for the living room during last night's coup, @gar? When this pandemic is under control, we could always go antique shopping looter style together in the US...

This is what my SO and I were saying as we were watching it unfold last night... They're in for some very long and detailed sweeps. This could very well become one headache of a major danger from foreign forces.

I heard today that Capitol Police has 2200 officers responsible for 9 buildings. That more officers weren't in place is a huge security failure, because this was planned on the internet and known about, and especially because every member of the House and Senate were all together in one room!

May be she had a hoodie on and so cops couldn’t see her skin color or did they think she was sleeping in her own bed? <insert eye roll>

I’m also confused as hell why teachers can get fired for violating FERPA, and healthcare workers can get fired for violating HIPAA, but if you work for the federal government, you can leave your office open and unlocked, computer up, classified materials out, etc., when you leave to go to a meeting.
I know a few had to run out of their offices and didn’t have time to shut anything down, but most were in chambers or meeting rooms and legit just left their offices open to anyone!!
What the hell?!

The one time I have ever been in the Capitol building, I had tickets for a tour. My oldest was a toddler. She had a meltdown after waiting in I think two different security lines. They escorted us out right quick.
I could not believe what I was watching yesterday.

They should be thankful these thugs don’t know well enough to cause actual chaos. This could’ve been an absolute tragedy of epic proportions. Though resilient later, many admitted there were tears and true fears for their lives when it all went down.

My husband is in IT and doesn’t work for government, medical personnel, teachers, anyone with particularly sensitive material but he said yesterday that everyone’s office computer is set to LOCK itself after 10 minutes of inactivity. He was stunned that the capitol computers apparently didn’t have such a basic system in place.

and 5 year olds. We have monthly drills with 3 and 4 year olds. The video of the police escorting that lady down the steps like an effing debutante and the one taking selfies with the terrorist make me sick. There was no reason the police couldn't round more of those a holes up to arrest them. I hope the FBI can do something. I agree.

I can’t help feeling there was a deliberate decision not to fully secure the Capital to show trump and his cronies up. Very risky, but who knows? He was allowed to have 30,000 at a rally a short walk away from an official ceremony that he wanted stopped . It doesn’t take much thought to think ‘let’s call his bluff’.

It has been reported that 50-some have been arrested, as of this morning. 46 of them were for curfew.
Why weren't more arrested IN the Capital?

You got me I’ve been saying since yesterday how were they not mass arrested yesterday- they had no problem herding BLM protestors into cul de sacs and arresting them en masse over the summer. Clearly they had no intention of arresting any of them

Of those curfew arrests, I'd like to know the racial breakdown. I'd also like to know their proximity to the Capitol grounds. How many were far away and tried to quickly drive outside the district for emergency diapers or formula or to pick up a child from a sitter, then straight back home. How many snuck out of their house and ran through an alley to get to a beverage vending machine at a gas station two blocks away, then attempted to run right back home? But really, I want the racial breakdown, as I didn't see a single Black terrorist on Capitol grounds in photos. The only data I've seen is 18 of 83 total arrested are local to area, so don't believe they're picking up residents trying to live their life. The local news published pictures of the people arrested from my state and they were all white - granted it's a small state and small number of the 83 so by no means indicative of all. www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/dc/trump-rally-arrest-numbers-from-washington-dc-police-officials-released/65-a66ab770-6289-4b1c-9c43-7efbb09fe8b1

And this is the scary part. It would've been so easy for these terrorists to wipe out those politicians if they were more organised. 😶
