The District's police made 61 "unrest-related" arrests on Wednesday, compared with 316 on June 1, when protesters and rioters filled city streets a week after Minneapolis police killed George Floyd. The disparity is illuminating to anyone still questioning that there are 2 Americas. I am certain many of the offenders are now emboldened and gearing up for the next round.

Most of the 61 were curfew violations, too. I think they only arrested 14 at the time of the insurrection. Which is crazy. I really hope they fully charge people and figure out who was there with facial recognition. |

Disgusting doesn’t even begin to adequately describe it, does it? The entire response disparity is disgusting as well.
I am holding out hope that since the FBI is involved there will be more arrests and some serious jail time for these scumbags (as my gramma would have said).
I know that won’t erase the core problem, but I am hoping to see a whole bunch of racists severely punished for their racist behavior.

Horrifying and depressing, on all the levels. I think anyone with an ounce of reason knows that if the rioters/terrorists on Jan 6 at the Capitol had been black, it would have been a massacre.

White supremacy means you get to say you're sorry and get put on "leave" from work, and in the meantime, fly safely back to your home state.
You don't get a knee on your neck. You don't get a gun in your face. You are safe.

White supremacy is also believing the people responsible for this are yokels, poor, or uneducated. Brad was a CEO for a data firm and lives in an expensive home in the suburbs, just a few miles from me.

I’m hoping there are more arrests, too. But, there should have been significantly more arrests on the day of the insurrection. Those criminals should never have been allowed to leave the Capitol without handcuffs. The investigations should have only been for those terrorists that they missed, not the entire mob.

Has anyone seen a count or estimate of how many invaded the Capitol building? I’ve tried to find a number online and have yet to see one. I had my tv off the entire day so didn’t know something was going on or would have been glued to the tv. I’ve watched several videos and there seems to possibly be thousands, but my guessing may be way off.

This, exactly. I am very, very troubled by this one way for Black America and one way for White America. I wish - I so wish - that any person who doesn't believe it to be a fact to be able to be Black for one day. 24 hours. I think they'd find a different story. This is such a giant stain upon all of us. |

A lone Black lawman momentarily facing down an angry mob of white rioters before retreating, giving ground to their fury. As we have now learned, there is a bigger story to be told. Seeing that they were heading towards the open Senate chambers, Capitol police officer Eugene Goodman took control of the mob, giving its leader a shove to get his attention and then drawing them away in pursuit. In short, he tricked them, willingly becoming the rabbit to their wolf pack, pulling them away from the chambers where armed officers were waiting, avoiding tragedy and saving lives. Lives which include their own. An Army veteran who spent time in Iraq, Goodman’s actions bring a measure of honor to a police force that saw some of its members acting in a questionable manner. Calls have come for him to receive national commendation for his actions, perhaps even the Congressional Medal of Honor. Now, that’s not my call to make, but this man deserves far more than our praise and thanks. Maybe our soon to be President will award a medal to someone other than a radio talking head, sympathetic politicians, or a few golfers. And also, maybe a little pay increase. We saw the worst of our nature on display Wednesday. Many people immediately stood up and said, “This is not who we are!” History tells us, this is exactly who we are. Running from this fact won’t change it. But at the same time, we’re also Eugene Goodman. A people who will put themselves in harm's way to protect others. Even those that wouldn’t do the same for us. It’s a constant fight for the soul of this nation. Here’s hoping that this example by Eugene Goodman, one of our better angels, can serve as a reminder of what we can be, and help lead us in that direction. Thank you for your service sir. |

Black people saving democracy left and right in 2021. It is mind-boggling to me that Black people are saving this country over and over after the way they have been treated for hundreds of year. I am grateful beyond measure. We better wake up and fix this country. |
