I sweep my kitchen practically daily - I just have a regular broom and it seems indestructible since I can’t even remember the last time I replaced it. Our entire house is hardwoods so the broom and vacuum get used a lot.

I've wondered this as well. My mom still has the same broom that she had when I was a kid. But it still works and doesn't seem to look as gross as mine, which is only a few years old. I think she might also use a Swiffer cloth at times, too.

We only use a broom outside on the porch.
Inside we use a vacuum.

I’m pretty sure the one I have now is about ten years old. It still works fine, so I don’t think I’ll replace it any time soon. I typically sweep 2-3 times a day.

I use a broom in the cat litter area quite a bit, so I just replace it when the bristles start to look worn and it feels like the broom is just scattering debris rather than sweeping it.

Not until the bristles start looking a bit worn. We only use a broom in the basement or outside so it doesn’t get daily use.

When we move...it's bad luck to take the old broom with you.

Any other UK peas thinking about the famous Only Fools and Horses broom sketch now?
We own an outside broom, I've never used one indoors.

When it starts getting too ratty for me to stand. I replaced the broom at the cabin after the old one was used by contractors to sweep up concrete and other construction debris. The old one got relegated to the boat house and the OLD old boat house broom got tossed.

When it flies away.
We have brooms in the kitchen, garage, and basement. The one in the garage is often missing. I sometimes venture to Dh's workshop and poke around until I find it. I don't put in too much effort. I buy a new one and charge it to his card. He would be amazed to know how many brooms he has bought over the years.

Not sure I ever have. We have kitchen, porch, basement and garage brooms.
A few years ago, I read about a $100 broom. I think there were several gushing threads (blogs, Reddit, etc.) and I had to stop reading because I was getting dangerously curious.
I would like better dustpans. I fantasize that there’s a model that doesn’t leave any dirt behind.

My favorite broom is 35ish years old and has a small head. I love that thing. It fits behind and under things and into corners beautifully.
MIL and SIL thought it is too small so bought me a new one maybe 15 years ago. Everyone else likes to use the bigger one, but I still love my little baby best.
We also have a garage broom and backyard broom.

Every time DH takes it outside to sweep and leaves it out there to “season”, so yearly on average. I like to sweep.

I don't think we even own a broom. even an outside broom? How do you sweep your front steps or entry? We have huge redwood decks under redwood trees - I’m sweeping outdoors all the time! Those outdoor brooms do get more raggedy

When DH takes it and uses it for something gross outside and then I refuse to use it on the kitchen floor.
ETA: we have outside brooms as well, he just has a bad habit of taking my kitchen one

I like a softer angled broom for inside. They don't need frequent replacing really. They actually seem to sweep better when they get a little age on them. I prefer an old-fashioned corn broom with stiffer bristles for outside. They do wear out as the pieces break off with use. But still, replacement is not really frequent. I'm curious freecharlie -- what's the reason behind the question? Is there some sort of broom dispute going on at your house?

We replace every 5 yrs. We don't use it much, I prefer the vacuum. I don't like to sweep. I used our broom to get snow off the roof of the cars with the three 9 in. snow storms we have had in Dec. So it got messed up and I bought a new one.

Those of you who use the vacuum, do you have hard floors or carpet?
I have a roomba, but sometimes I just need a small spot and I'm not supposed to use my old vacuum on the hardwood
