We have narrowed down our search to a Bosch dishwasher, either the 500 series or 800 series. The 500 has a feature where the door automatically pops open at the end of the cycle, to allow the steam to escape. This is the machine I was leaning towards, but I’m hoping someone can give me their thoughts on this feature, before I make my final decision.

We do have a Bosch, but the door doesnt pop open. We love the Bosch because it doesnt have heated dry so you can put that Tupperware anyplace you'd like and also the extra rack for silverware is genius. Loading it does take some getting used to, but it does a great job cleaning

I have a Miele that does that. I freaking love that machine. We bought a new double oven 2 years ago and I HATE it. The buttons are touchy and it’s just not user-friendly. So I am trying to make certain that I will be able to say I love my dishwasher!! 😆

I'm in the UK so possibly a different model but I do have a Bosch that pops open at the end of the cycle and I love it Actually to be accurate it pops open with the main, standard cycle but if you pick a extra strong/speedy/rinse cycle it doesn't do that. I do love it though

I have a Bosch. The salesman said that since Bosch doesn't have heated dry, that we'd have to leave it closed for 3-4 hours for the dishes to dry from the residual heat, so obviously our model doesn't have the door pop feature.
I absolutely LOVE our dishwasher, the "don't open the door" thing isn't an issue for us because we typically run it at night after dinner.

I’ll be watching this thread.
My 4 year old GE was just diagnosed as unrepairable. Thankfully we purchased extended warranty.
I’m so excited to have a chance to get a new one. AND IT WON’T BE A GE! That thing was a PITA to load. Plates always slipped down and hit the spray arm.
I’m on the fence between a BOSCH and the kitchen aid that has the awesome 3rd rack w/ the rotation spray arms.
I didn’t know about the BOSCH door popping open feature. That’s awesome!

I have a top of the line Bosch dishwasher that is about 5 years old. I decided to get the more expensive one because it has more options for how the racks can be adjusted (sections of tines go up and down, the top rack ones can be lowered) and also because it has the speed perfect option to use more energy and wash faster. I use those options all the time so I'm thankful I got that model. With speed perfect a wash takes 1:30 to run, without it it takes 2:20 to run. The tines adjustment makes it so easy to adapt the dishwasher to hold whatever I need to fit in there. People complain that the Bosch dishwashers are hard to load without that feature. The door opening feature wasn't offered when I bought mine but we usually just open the dishwasher up for a while to let things dry before unloading it. We live in a dry climate so it doesn't take long except for plastic items. I keep a small towel on the counter and let the plastic items dry for a bit there. It washes everything really well! Good luck deciding!
Did you try your dishes in it? I learned to bring a few with me to the store because our plates have a tendency to tilt over in some dishwashers but they didn't in the Bosch. I wanted to be sure our tall glasses could fit in the middle rack at the same time as our large plates in the bottom rack.

I do find my Bosch somewhat difficult to load, but I’ve learned to adjust where I put things, and it cleans beautifully. Really, no dishwasher rack is going to be perfect for everyone, because we all have different sizes of dishes and glassware. Love having the silverware up in the top rack. We typically run ours overnight, too, so no problem with things getting dry.

I have a Miele that does that. I freaking love that machine. I also have Miele with that feature and it is amazing. I find the Miele easier to load than a Bosch but both are great machines. I always want the pop-open feature in future dishwashers.

I have a Bosch with no pop open feature.
DH complained constantly about the 3rd rack (no idea why since he loads the dishwasher once a year...) so I took it out just to get him to shut up and/or not find it sitting on my kitchen counter all the time.
Otherwise, it's a dishwasher. I don't love it or hate it as long as it runs.

I was wary of the Bosch due to loading issues. We were once in a vacation rental that had a Bosch and I couldn’t load it with the dishes in the rental. If I bought a Bosch I’d make sure it worked well with my dishes. My friends who have Bosch dishwashers love them.

I’m assuming you leave the door closed so that the dishes dry. With the pop open feature the dishes dry much quicker. I can unload the dishes within 10 minutes and they’re dry because the steam escapes. The Miele doesn’t have a heated dry either. I think if you popped the door open the dishes would dry much quicker.

We have a Bosch but it is an older model. I would love the feature of having the door pop open at the end of the cycle to let out the steam. We have loved our Bosch. It has worked really well for us.

I haven't experimented to see if that's true or not, but he said that was the main complaint from customers who bought the same model that we did.

I love it, especially now in winter, it helps get humidity into the house a little. It is so quiet when it is running, when the door unseals and opens it can be a little creepy if you aren't expecting it. LOL It only opens a few inches, so not all the way down so it won't trip someone unexpectedly. I usually go over and pull all the racks out and open the door all the way after it does open if I'm around.

Also, it doesn't pop open every time, it is a setting you can turn on or off each load.

My last Bosch only lasted 7 years before it died on me (the previous one lasted much longer and was still working when that house was sold) so I am not as big a Bosch fan as I used to be. When I went shopping for a new one I went with a Cove (built by Sub-Zero) because it was built better and had a much better warranty than either the Bosch or Miele machines I looked at. It cleans much better than our old Bosch did and the racks are sturdier. It does have a hidden heating element in the bottom so it dries very well.

We bought a Bosch 500 series earlier this year. Pros are the adjustable third rack, optional door popping feature and that the racks fit all my fiesta dishes and tall glasses fairly well. Cons are that a cycle takes a long time, I don’t think it’s all that quiet, there’s no indicator to let you know how much time is left in the cycle and it didn’t come with an operating manual explaining all the functions. We do use the door popping feature and other than the wells on the bottom of my cups and some plastic container lids, everything comes out dry. Overall, I’m happy with it and it holds way more than my last Bosch.

Yes. Love it. We went through 2 Ken mores and a kitchen aid in 9 years. When the kitchen aid exploded and ruined a brand new engineered wood floor, I bought the Bosch because it has a special seal. It is fantastic and still going strong over four years. Quiet, cleans well. Best decision ever!

We just got a Bosch last week that has that pop open feature.
We've only run it twice so I can't speak from much experience, but I was wondering how it would work if we had little kids in the house. Not a current concern, but something to ponder.

I had a Bosch lemon a few years ago. That thing was in constant need of repair. I absolutely hated it. I was very surprised when dh and I chose another Bosch after having had a GE. I love my dishwasher. It gets the dishes so clean and it's really quiet. I don't have the door-open feature and I'm glad. I would be worried about it opening mid-cycle and spraying water all over the room. One washing machine flood later, I'm paranoid about that.

We have an older one at home and a one year old one at the cabin, neither pops open at the end. With both of ours, if I don’t open the door at the end of the cycle the stuff stays wet FOREVER. I’ve run ours at the cabin before we’ve left for the weekend and left the door shut, and the following weekend the stuff inside is still freaking wet. It drives me nuts.

We have a Bosch 500 series with a 44dba rating. It is very quiet. It is about 5 years old now, and it has been great (knock on wood). It doesn’t have the pop open door feature, but we pop open the door at the end for about 10-30 minutes before unloading it. Everything is pretty much dry, may be a few exceptions. I do wish you could tell how long is left. We usually use the shorter 1 hour cycle instead of 2 hours.
I never used the dishwasher that came with this house. It was terrible. When we remodeled we knew we had to put a dishwasher in for resale value. We didn’t go too high-end because I didn’t think I would use it much. But, I am a dishwasher convert now. Lol!

I just bought a Bosch last fall. I love the third rack! I love how quiet it is. I am getting used to loading it - it is quite different than our last dw. Mine does not open at the end and I don't have any problem with things being wet. It is so quiet it shines a red light on the floor so you know it's running. And best of all my dishes come out AMAZIGNLY clean.

It took us a while to figure out that you need to press the auto air button each time you run it or the door stays closed.
