Is anyone doing PL or another form of documenting everyday life this year? After years of promising myself that I would do an album with some sort of monthly documenting, I am finally taking the plunge and really trying to get it done this year. Does anyone have any tips or advice? I am trying to do monthly spreads (weekly would be too much), but I need advice on how to make sure I take enough pictures, ideas on what to document, and anything else the Peas can think of

I have a bullet journal where I write a little bit about each day. I really think it helps remember the little things. I also jot down quotes of funny things my kids say in my phone.

I use DailyDiary to write down what I did for the day. It sends an email whenever you want it to (I chose at the end of the day around 9:30 p.m.) and I just write down what happened that day. I also use the Collect app on my phone to document a photo or two a day. I then go through both of those when I'm doing a layout to see what stories (if any) I want to tell for that week or month. Some spreads I don't tell any "stories" I just document photos. I used to save some ephemera and put it in but I got behind on my documenting and the ephemera just added too much mess so I leave it out now (unless it's something I really want to document). ETA: don't make it too hard for yourself. Maybe just start with pictures, some cards and simple embellishments to start, you don't have to buy all the things. If you want to watch simple PL documenting videos, try Heba from My Little Journal.

Take notes would be my number one. It's amazing how quickly I forget the little stuff. I keep a word document on computer one for each month and jot down a few sentences pretty much ever day or every other day and call it good. Then I have that to go back too, even if I'm behind. I still have to do August, part of September, November and December for 2020. Having those notes takes the pressure off. I know I can go back to it when I'm ready.
I snap photos of my favorite things, what make-up I'm using, current clothing loves, favorite face masks, etc because it's fun to go back and see how that stuff changes over time. I take screen shots of tons of stuff like memes, audio books and podcasts I'm listening too, text message conversations, even pictures of my in-box and will fill in with those little life details, especially on weeks when I'm short on pictures.
You definitely don't need "all the things", just buy what you love and make sure to use when it's still new. Keep the project fun and don't worry about it too much. Your future self will be grateful whatever you document. If you skip some weeks or photos, totally fine. If I never go back and fill in my 2020 missing weeks, I'm still happy with what all I did document.

This gives me a little extra space to write if I end up wanting to. http://instagram.com/p/CJ4cjTVHqkZ It’s just daily stuff like the sunrise, sunset, my dog, maybe my dinner or something interesting that I drive by for work, maybe my kids. Not terribly interesting to others. Like a photo diary I guess. I do monthly PL with any event type stuff ( which was really thin for 2020 ) Just get something that appeals to your style and a few bits & pieces and use it up regularly

I don't do PL/pocket scrapping - I'm an 8.5x11 family album kinda gal - but I scrap plenty of everyday moments, probably more than I do events/trips.
Key for me is taking the photos - of the cats, of the kids doing ordinary things (homework, board games, video games, shooting hoops, making dinner), family stuff (games, movie night, goofing around)...I struggle a bit more with DH and me but I've been trying to take some selfies and have the kids take some pictures of me/us. Sometimes the picture tells the story, sometimes the photo is just a random picture of the cat/person that I want to tell the story about...

When I was in sales I got in the habit of using a mini recorder to document my day, which helped me to construct my sales report each day.

I'm starting up PL this year for our 2021 album. I decided my focus was going to be the everyday life that we often forget. What I've done so far to keep track of things: 1) Created a Word doc to keep track of the memories I want to keep- the cute things my toddler says, the cool projects my kids do, the events I want to remember. So far it has been either a little blip, others are full blown out journaling. 2) Intentional picture taking. I've never had an issue with taking pictures, but I always had too many and not always documenting the daily life. 3) Editing weekly- I take the time each week to choose and edit the pictures I'll use for documenting the week. I don't do a picture a day, but plan out a week's worth to show our current life. 4) My goal is take a day a month and put an entire month together in pages. I'm using the Elle's Studio kit and add ons for the pockets. I'll probably be a month behind putting the pages together, but if I find time during the month to complete actual pages, I'll do it then.

I have started this year, I tried once before in 2013 but it just didn't work out for me then and I abandoned ship.
I am not as organised as what everyone else seems to be but what is so far working for me is putting all the photos and screenshots that I want to use into its own folder in my photos, I have selphy and then edit and print all in the one go. I am also being more mindful to take more photos, I can go weeks and not take one photo so I am being more proactive in the respect. I have been working on a whole week over the weekends whenever I have some spare time.

I've done both weekly and monthly and in both cases I find having notes makes all the difference for my journaling. I keep a word doc that I update when I think of it, although I try to do it at least once a week, often just bullet points. I have photos for some of those events, but don't for others and I like that between the words and the photos I get a fuller version of my month.

This is how I’ve done PL since 2012. I treat it like a diary. I’m not great at writing things down daily, but I do pretty much keep every receipt I receive. 2020 was an anomaly and I’m playing catch-up for the entire year this month. In a normal year I scrap 3 months at a time. I’ve done it straight chronological, weekly, and monthly. I prefer monthly and find it easier to keep up. I keep a basic planner (I get something small and cheap from Walmart or Target) and update it about once a month or so. I pull everything from my calendar / photos / email / receipts / memorabilia and write it down for reference. I will take random pictures of things that I want to make sure I don’t forget for my album, but not necessarily the photo but what it’s of. I also check my watch history on Netflix and Prime. I pull current events from the internet for news that I found interesting or important, celebrities I like that died, etc. All of this information doesn’t necessarily make it into my layout, but it gives me options for what to include. Once the year is over, I store my little planner in the front of the album; so not only do I have my layouts, but also the planner with more details that weren’t included. It’s come in handy when DH asks about when something happened in previous years.

Thanks so much for all the advice. With my pandemic documenting, I bought some digital pocket cards, and I have had luck with taking some time to journal here and there. I think I will continue this, and try to be more intentional about capturing things regularly during the month. I will definitely have to try to be a bit more intentional about the photo taking, but I do like the idea that each are a representation of what happens during the month, and don't need to tie together exactly. Fingers crossed I can stick with it this time!

Does anyone have any tips or advice? I am trying to do monthly spreads (weekly would be too much), but I need advice on how to make sure I take enough pictures, ideas on what to document, and anything else the Peas can think of I'm doing monthly PL. I use a 9x12 album. I take 99% of the photos with my phone. I can usually fill 2 front/back page protectors with cards and photos. Each "week" has roughly one side of a PP. I find this manageable. I document work (it's crazy, I work in our local covid vaccine clinic), my family stuff (kids mainly), shopping, what I'm reading/watching, current events (screen shots). Mostly day in/day out stuff. I add an extra 6x12 PP if I have an event that has more photos I want to capture (like a girls weekend, and when my youngest daughter's team came in runner up in their tournament.) I print from my selphy most of the time. I document the photo(s) I took that day in a notebook with a note of what might have happened that day of note. My album are simple - photos, cards, a little journaling, some embellishing and stamping. Not much though. Just enough to keep justifying buying LOTS of stuff. HA. I don't 12x12 scrapbook as much as I used to. mainly because the girls don't have as much going on, I don't have my big camera out often and we have sports year round. I want to work some of those bigger events back into 12x12 pages. HTH

It sounds like you might have the opposite problem than I do - these kinds of projects take me a long time because I take too many photos. Choosing, editing, printing/putting into computer folders takes a lot of time and energy, especially working at the end of a month. I take between 200 and 500 pictures a month so I give myself a headache choosing.
I would suggest reviewing/flagging/selecting your photos weekly even if you plan to create the pages monthly. That might also make it clear that you haven't taken enough photos and you can do better the next week or take "faked" photos to fill in the gaps (taking a photo for one story on a different day you do the same thing, or recreating/staging it). It's also OK not to have photos - ephemera or a drawing or word art works too, depending on your style.
I would also suggest that when you do take photos to try to take both portrait and landscape versions so you have more options for cropping. Taking photos based on prompts might help fill some gaps too - you could make up your own prompt list, especially if you know some of the things coming ahead in the month.
Shimelle showed her printing plan using Photos on a MacBook, but I think the same thing would work for a PC. Basically she created folders based on what size she wanted to print - 4x6 landscape, 3x4 portrait, etc. She just dragged the photos she'd chosen into each folder so she could batch print. I've also seen people set up folders for each week or month, some photo programs can create the folders automatically, which saves a bit of time and effort.
I found it a lot easier to standardize and print everything the same size (or 2 sizes) so I didn't have to make a decision each time, even when I was doing non-pocket page documenting.
The last couple of years my plan was to do a highlight or story each week. Just pick one good thing. Of course some weeks there were more, some less, but on average that will yield 52 good things, which is pretty awesome.

Thanks joblackford! That is some excellent advice. I love the idea of finding a highlight for each week to feature. That would be a lovely album even all on its own. Also, special thank you because your pandemic documenting was a huge inspiration to me, and really got me to start putting my thoughts and feelings to paper, which has inspired me to try to document this whole year in a new way.

Aww, thanks I'm still recovering from that monster project. I'm trying to remember whose idea the 52 stories was Linda - one of those online communities I'm not part of had a class or group about it. Not that they *invented* the idea of finding a weekly highlight, but it definitely wasn't my original idea. I follow Anandi RC who doing it in 2019? and thought it was a really approachable way to get back to documenting after getting burned out with PL.
