Wait. So Canadians "visiting" Florida get the vaccine? Yes they can and are.

And if health care was denied for these people, there would be room in hospitals to take care of everyone else. But what do you mean by "these people"? People who don't wear a mask in public? People who hosted a family gathering? People who ate in a restaurant? People who go inside the grocery store instead of getting delivery? Where do you draw the line? Sure, it would be great if people who have done "everything right" got their vaccines first. But who gets to decide who has done right and wrong? And really, public health is better served by vaccinating the people who aren't doing everything right. That is where the spread is coming from. I mean the people you are talking about in your post. I don't think I should have to wait for a vaccine because I am doing the right thing. So as soon as it's my turn, I will get it and not let someone who doesn't want to wear a mask get it before me. But that's just me! If others want to skip their turn to let someone who doesn't want to wear masks go before them, it's up to them.

You are very fortunate to be so close to the front of the line that you already have an appointment. It sounds like my turn won't be coming until we are in the "anyone who wants one can have one stage".

You need to change the title...it is very misleading. It's PUBLIX that is only giving shots in those counties... Suggestions for change?

Hmm, FL supposedly ran out of the vaccines and we have no idea when we'll be able to get one. DH and I signed up for them via our primary doctor. They'll let us know whenever the vaccines do come back to FL, and they'll tell us if they are in Publix, CVS, etc. They are NOT there as of a week ago.
As an aside, even stepping inside a Publix down here has now become a severe Covid danger. People used to respect some Covid rules a few months ago in stores. Now? I'd guess that about only 20% of the customers wear masks inside Publix stores. People are being rude, not respecting distancing guidelines. Tonight, in our local Publix, DD and I were walking down one aisle and a man (I'd guess he was in his 50's), was maskless AND he coughed only about 2' away from us. We both were instantly freaking out. We try to avoid being close to anyone, but this idiot walked RIGHT near us and coughed.
I'll update when we get word about FL getting more vaccines in, but even in this Republican-run State, things are so very messed up with Covid, etc. You'd think we'd be at the front of the line, considering Trump's friendship with DeSatan, but the gov't and FL can't work out the logistics.
Florida has definitely NOT run out of vaccines, not sure where you're getting that information. And in our area, EVERYONE is wearing a mask, I rarely see anyone without one. Especially in the Publix, all stores have a staffer stationed at the entrance and is checking for compliance. Your county/city may very well have different requirements than mine does - but that's on your county/city government. I find the news article/headline in the OP very misleading.

I hate having no avatar picture. But I have no clue how to make an avatar (I am so dumb when it comes to doing anything on a computer or cell phone). I tried before but the picture size was too big (I am probably saying it wrong). My kids and husband get so tired of me asking my stupid questions, so I only use them for really important questions, haha!

I personally know 3 friends of the family who have been vaccinated while staying at their winter trailer in Venice Florida. They usually go in October this year they went December 29, and were vaccinated with their first shot shortly after arrival. I think maybe January 4 or 5th and Snowbirds and vaccinesI'm an over 75 at risk senior with health risks and have been SIP since Mar 13th, wear a mask, social distance . Been to the hospital Apr-May, 3 doctor appts (1 primary, 1 pulmonary, 1 cardiologist),the rest telemed, needed PT, a store, less then a handful. Only put $26.00 of gas in my car, still 3/4 tank since March. And I am scheduled for vaccine Feb 17th. So I wait while those younger and traveling get theirs. You could keep calling, and try for something earlier. There are multiple locations that give the vaccination. Somebody on our neighborhood app (here in GA) said he called over 2,000 times before he got an appointment. People in my state are calling between the health department, Publix, Kroger, CVS and I think Ingle's all have limited supplies. You may also want to ask if you can be waitlisted for an earlier one if you are able to get there quickly. At least here for our health department, they have a lot of no shows, so right before they close for the day they are trying to get anybody in they can so they don't have to throw away any doses. A vial holds 10 doses but they can only be left out for a few hours - 6, for Moderna, I think - so if people no show, then they end up with extras at the end of the day. That would vary of course by location as to how they do/can handle those.

How about "not everybody in Florida can get the vaccine that wants it." I really don't know why you made it political and said this is why people hate Republicans. Creative Loafing (which I honestly thought went out of business 20+ years ago) is definitely a liberal leaning publication - always has been. We (on either side of the political spectrum) can spin any story we want to fit our agenda, which is obviously what's done here.

For contrast, in Texas, most vaccine doses are going to the most heavily populated counties, which tend to vote blue. And believe me, if anyone was going to "punish" Democratic strongholds, it would be the Texas GOP, which has a stated purpose of making life for the blue cities as difficult as possible. Well, Abbott's well-documented hatred of Austin continues. San Antonio was already up and running open clinics with 1500 vaccinations daily in a week where Austin had only received 1200 total. We still receiving a far lower number of vaccines for our size than any major area, including Lubbock.

I also changed the title a few days ago to better reflect what is actually more accurrate.
And, since I last posted, DeSantis has expanded the vaccine rollout....and guess what? EVERY SINGLE COUNTY IN WHICH HE DID IS OVERWHELMINGLY REPUBLICAN. Like significantly, and NOT ONE of the expanded counties leaned Democrat. Bay, Citrus, Collier, Escambia, Flagler, Hernando, Marion, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, St. Johns, Volusia, and Walton. Go check. Because I did. So, please, before you handslap away, you might want to check before responding.
So why is it that it appears that only those counties that are strongly republican the beneficiaries of the vaccine?
Florida is not rolling out the doses, expeditiously either.
"Florida's vaccine rollout has been chaotic. The governor and county officials have blamed each other for the failures that included national news of wealthy out-of-staters, known as COVID tourists, allegedly getting shots at nursing homes or elsewhere, skipping ahead of residents.
Florida has received nearly 2 million doses of vaccine but has administered less than half, about 775,000 so far, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Among all states, Florida ranks 23rd in the percentage of vaccines administered.
Pictures of long lines of Florida older adults on scooters, or in wheelchairs, walkers or folding chairs, waiting for hours in the unaccustomed chilly winter air, have surfaced in the national news in recent weeks. And even as more vaccines are available and more vaccination sites open up, getting an appointment is still difficult.
"People don't know where to go for information,” says Jeff Johnson, Florida AARP state director. “People don't know what the plan is, where to sign up or when they might be able to get this vaccine. Without that clarity, people get angry and frustrated."
DeSantis has been downplaying every aspect of the pandemic, from requiring workers to outright lie about reporting cases, not entering the cases into a tracking database, not having an effective plan to distribute the vaccine and to date, has haphazardly only been able to get about half of the doses out.
and yes, I said that this is why people hate republicans. And I believe that to be true with 100% of my being. Right now, republicans have massively fucked up with this pandemic lying about it every day, denying it, anti maskers, and just being selfish and horrid.

Abbott's in Houston today I believe to discuss vaccine roll-out with local health leaders. The Democratic mayor and county judge were not invited. Petty, vicious man. Texas is leading the way in numbers of vaccine distribution in large part because of the efforts of our mayor to run super-sites where several thousand are vaccinated in a single day.

You made it political with this sentence: This is exactly why republicans are hated.
And followed it up with your last paragraph. Which again, is political. LOL And he did expand it: Biden won: Dade (Miami), Broward (Ft. Lauderdale), Orange/Osceola/Volusia (Orlando), Leon/Gadsden (Tallahassee), Duval (Jacksonville), Alachua (Gainesville), Hillsborough/Pinellas (Tampa/St Pete), and Palm Beach (West Palm). That's it. What do those counties have in common? Major cities that have larger health departments / hospital systems to distribute. Who is on the list that now has the vaccine? Palm Beach County. Where Biden won.And again, you have a ton of counties that don't have the vaccine at Publix that were overwhelmingly Trump won counties. Does Desantis just not like those like he doesn't like the Biden won counties? LOL You won't get an argument for me that they fucked up the distribution and need to get more shots in arms. My state is the same way with our Republican Governor. I think it's embarrassing that that they didn't have a better plan already in place, knowing this was coming. It's been a joke. I just completely disagree that these particular Publix stores getting the vaccine is because those counties voted for Trump and find it silly to say that this is why Republicans are hated. When you try to make arguments like that - when research can easily explain the reasoning - people dismiss you as just being a bitter X (Pick a party. Republican or Democrat.) I'd like to get past that and get back to people being reasonable so we can actually find a middle ground that people can agree on. Like distribution of the vaccine sucking almost everywhere.

Texas is leading the way in numbers of vaccine distribution in large part because of the efforts of our mayor to run super-sites where several thousand are vaccinated in a single day. Yes, I'm glad that some places are aggressively getting them distributed. The important part is that they not sit there on refrigerator shelves but that they are injected into actual bodies. But I'm 1B and can't even get on a list here because so few are being distributed to our area that they are only accepting people without insurance and lower income people, etc. to get on the list. Well, technically I'm on the list but they've said they aren't even touching that part of the list for anytime in the foreseeable future. You're told to check with your healthcare provider. My healthcare provider sends me back to the "master" wait list. So yeah. Meanwhile I see other people (in other areas) being able to go and get one pretty easily, so it's just nuts.

That is absolutely disgusting. And yet Canadians who are well enough off to be snowbirds are getting the vaccine in Florida. Priorities are definitely screwed up. I have not seen this anywhere. How do you know it to be true? We usually spend 3 months in Florida camping in a resort. Mostly over 55 there. We decided, due to Covid and trying to be safe, not to go this year. Today, my DH got an email from the resort saying that next weekend anyone over 65 and who will still be there for the second dose can get vaccinated! We can't even start trying to get an appointment for our age group here in Ohio until FEb. 8th!

This County (and town) is very much Republican, yet it's almost impossible for even people in the medical field to get their 1st vaccine, so, don't believe everything you hear. We signed up at Publix and thru our primary doctor's office for the vaccines. Not sure when they'll "roll in".

We're in Pasco County. I'm happy for you that they do mask up where you are in FL! Our county here is awful. Could be specifically where I am in Pasco, but I see it in neighboring areas here too.
I just posted a thread about this:

Yep...my original title was correct all along. Thanks for posting this! I just posted another thread with this link. UNREAL!!!!!!!!!! Makes it almost impossible for most of us in particular areas here in FL. I'll keep trying!
