This is misleading. Only Publix grocery stores in those counties. There are other places in the state to get the vaccine. Not to mention, Florida has 67 counties. Biden won 11 it looks like (on a map I just looked at). The vaccine is at 12 counties per this article. So if this was a Republican thing...do they not care about the other 44 counties Trump won? LOL And per this article: As of Thursday morning, 105 Publix stores were offering limited numbers of shots to people 65 and older in Bay, Citrus, Collier, Escambia, Flagler, Hernando, Marion, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, St. Johns, Volusia and Walton counties. They are almost all in one geographic area - those are almost all panhandle counties. So maybe it has more to do with geography/availability/lack of other areas to get the vaccine than Trump winning. I can't stand Trump, but I do appreciate facts.

Is it that Publix is making the choice or the state..? ? Publix is top of the line Customer Service. I have difficulty believing they are discounting any customers by choice.

Can we trade Florida and Texas for DC and Puerto Rico?

Is it that Publix is making the choice or the state..? ? Publix is top of the line Customer Service. I have difficulty believing they are discounting any customers by choice. It's explained in the article why those specific areas are getting the doses right now, with the end goal of every Publix being able to offer them. But there are 800+ Publix stores, so there isn't availability right now to do that. So they are focusing on those counties that may not have as strong of hospital systems to distribute, as well as a higher concentration of elderly.

I don't know that this is a fair assumption by this article. I can't claim to be a FL expert and I don't know which parts are red and blue, but I do know that the Panhandle is pretty spread out population wise with the actual residents, and tourism is the major industry. That usually means that the area probably has a lower population in general and the grocery store pharmacies might be a more efficient distribution network. Compare that to Orlando which is another area where tourism is the major industry, but it is a condensed city with actual large hospital networks.
It frustrates me here when people keep saying, "Governor, you should do this for the whole state!" without recognizing that there are HUGE differences in the infrastructure and capabilities in various areas of the state, and my state should be the case study for that given the differences for the Delta vs. the Coast, Jackson Metro, and Memphis Suburbs. I would imagine that Florida faces similar challenges given the size of some cities compared to the distributed population in other areas.

I think saying that this is political is a stretch.
For contrast, in Texas, most vaccine doses are going to the most heavily populated counties, which tend to vote blue. And believe me, if anyone was going to "punish" Democratic strongholds, it would be the Texas GOP, which has a stated purpose of making life for the blue cities as difficult as possible.

As an over 75 I have spent the morning to get an appointment not quite local, for Feb 17th. Also not knowing if I will be able to park and navigate the facility.
Same medical group/hospital system opened a mega center (more local)this morning one hour before I received the email and it was already closed/full. How did that happen?

Why are they getting it, I thought they said it was a hoax! I hate that maskholes, the ones who cause us to be in this position, may be getting it before those of us that have followed the rules since March 13th.

Lots and lots of 65+ in my county. A Publix on every corner.
(Funny I told my parents before Christmas that Publix should be involved because they are so ubiquitous.)
But my parents had to go to their second home “up north” in the panhandle to get an appointment for their vaccines. As far as I can tell, my very red, not so robust medical system doesn’t have any vaccines at all.
It’s hard not to think that there is not some kind of political game afoot.

No need for a vaccine if it is a hoax!! Yup, I have SIP since Mar 13th. I have been in the hospital, doctors, PT. OH, and I have only put $26.00 of gas in my car since before Mar 13th, and it is still over 3/4 full.

They've made our MLB stadium into a big mega-vaccination site. Regular appointments through the end of January are full, but each weekend they've dropped a batch of extra appointments and they're gone in a flash. This morning they added 2600 appointments and they were gone in 45 minutes. I know we just learned that there is no Trump-ordered stockpile of vaccine to be distributed to the states, but I'm hoping the Biden administration will do whatever is necessary to get adequate supply to everyone.

How do you know it to be true? I personally know 3 friends of the family who have been vaccinated while staying at their winter trailer in Venice Florida. They usually go in October this year they went December 29, and were vaccinated with their first shot shortly after arrival. I think maybe January 4 or 5th and Snowbirds and vaccines

And if health care was denied for these people, there would be room in hospitals to take care of everyone else. But what do you mean by "these people"? People who don't wear a mask in public? People who hosted a family gathering? People who ate in a restaurant? People who go inside the grocery store instead of getting delivery? Where do you draw the line? Sure, it would be great if people who have done "everything right" got their vaccines first. But who gets to decide who has done right and wrong? And really, public health is better served by vaccinating the people who aren't doing everything right. That is where the spread is coming from.

How do you know it to be true? Our governor has invited people for "vaccine tourism" and lots of snowbirds, including those from Canada, own property here. The rules are pretty vague. Can you get a vaccine in an adjacent county? Where are the vaccine centers? Churches and country clubs are administering the vaccine but nobody knows it's happening until it's done. Some counties are using Eventbrite to make appointments. Phone lines and websites were overwhelmed. No straight answers on the health department website. They've had 10 months to think about it but t's such a $#*tshow, like they didn't know they would have to deliver vaccines eventually. Our county went red but we're getting skipped with the next distribution.

Been to the hospital Apr-May, 3 doctor appts (1 primary, 1 pulmonary, 1 cardiologist),the rest telemed, needed PT, a store, less then a handful. Only put $26.00 of gas in my car, still 3/4 tank since March. And I am scheduled for vaccine Feb 17th. So I wait while those younger and traveling get theirs.

Hmm, FL supposedly ran out of the vaccines and we have no idea when we'll be able to get one. DH and I signed up for them via our primary doctor. They'll let us know whenever the vaccines do come back to FL, and they'll tell us if they are in Publix, CVS, etc. They are NOT there as of a week ago.
As an aside, even stepping inside a Publix down here has now become a severe Covid danger. People used to respect some Covid rules a few months ago in stores. Now? I'd guess that about only 20% of the customers wear masks inside Publix stores. People are being rude, not respecting distancing guidelines. Tonight, in our local Publix, DD and I were walking down one aisle and a man (I'd guess he was in his 50's), was maskless AND he coughed only about 2' away from us. We both were instantly freaking out. We try to avoid being close to anyone, but this idiot walked RIGHT near us and coughed.
I'll update when we get word about FL getting more vaccines in, but even in this Republican-run State, things are so very messed up with Covid, etc. You'd think we'd be at the front of the line, considering Trump's friendship with DeSatan, but the gov't and FL can't work out the logistics.

NOT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Customer Service/managers in many Publix stores where I live, suck! They are spineless and even tho their stores clearly state that you need a mask to get in the stores, only about 20% now are masked. I've asked managers if they could do anything, and they each say, "We can't FORCE customers to wear a mask". What BULLSHIT!!!
A friend of mine works at Sprouts in Odessa, FL, and he tells me about their system of ejecting customers who won't abide by their mask-wearing suggestions. He said that they escort them out and ask them not to come back. I admire that. (I honestly think that most stores/managers down here are frightened to confront anyone because most people down here are packing guns. I know that their jobs for a year have been very tough, but now they're making it dangerous for the majority of their loyal customers.)

I hope you get your vaccine soon after the 20th. I'm hopeful that things will change.

So Canadians "visiting" Florida get the vaccine? My niece went there right before Christmas (Canadian) with her boyfriend. She was suppose to be back by now but told my Mom that she's thinking of staying until March. Want to know why? Because she can party without COVID restrictions. Our province of Ontario that she actually lives in is right now in a lockdown. No fun here apparently. She'll be 22 years old this month.

SO's mom is in Manatee County. They had an online registration with 1700 vaccines to go around. OF COURSE, the site crashed. She tried for 2 hours to get on but it did not happen. She was able to register the next week for a lottery. So she waits. She is 78 with serious respiratory issues. But yeah, let's give it to the snow birds. I will add that there is also an added depression (on top of all of the pandemic depression) that this adds to our seniors. They feel so helpless and hopeless in regards to actually GETTING the vaccine and advocating for themselves. His mom spent three days getting over the fact she has no other options. She feels like no one cares about them.

There are vaccines in Florida. Maybe not in your area but where my niece is in Lauderdale, they have a HUGE vaccination site and are giving vaccines daily. My mom got hers on Wednesday. So please don't say there are no vaccines in that state, it simply is not true. Again--might be in your area they are scarce but in other parts many are getting vaccinated.
