For those who don't follow the tennis, Melbourne Australia hosts a major tournament in Jan every year - the Australian Open, players love it because it's the middle of summer and there's lots of partying afterwards. Melbourne also had a big second wave of covid which resulted in one of the toughest and longest lock downs in the world, and we finally conquered it. They've decided to let the tennis go ahead but all the players were told they would be in strict hotel quarantine for 2 weeks...and guess who's unhappy about it now? They must have thought since they were 'elite athletes' that exceptions would be made for them...nope. Our State Government (leader Dan Andrews) is standing tough and just saying no. The players are all over SM saying they are in prison, and need fresh air/can't breathe and need to be let out to train, want better food etc Then Novak Djokovic provided a list of demands: - the main one was that he thought all players should be put into to privately owned mansions that have tennis courts so they can practice! - reduced days of quarantine for players - be allowed to visit their coach if they are both negative - fitness and training equipment in all rooms But good ol' Dan has just said "no" (and I personally love it!): They all knew before they came, they all came because they want a chance to win the prize money, so they just have to do what they are told and stop being whiney brats about it. Omg! So impressed. Australians know how to follow the rules, you see results and you are not going back for anyone! WTG! So proud of you.

Ha ha ha!!! Love it!!! About time these athletes are treated like regular human beings, because that is what they are.

OMG We are so cruel and inhuman! We insist they follow the same rules that Australians have to follow.
Tomic's partner was complaining that she has to wash her own hair, and "that's just not something I do".

All I know is I have happy parents who get to watch live tennis.
I grew up with tennis. They both play and watch. I used to know when the 4 major tournaments took place, what materials the courts were and who would be in the final 8 or 4. They were so disappointed that only 1 or 4 children liked to play tennis. Finally in their early 80s they have realized they need to change to pickle ball.

I am so happy that the players are being told in no uncertain terms that they aren't going to get what they want. It was very clear before they came what the conditions would be if someone on their flight tested positive. I think they are so used to people always saying yes to them and living in a very privileged bubble that they just have no clue. A few players have come out and said that they knew what they were getting in for and the others have to pull their heads in but the media aren't choosing to focus on that.

Where are they being quarantined at? Would it have been possible to have a place that would allow them to train outside at alternating times so they weren’t with anyone?

I believe they are in hotel rooms. I think initially they were going to be allowed out to train, and some are, but people on flights where someone tested positive are now not allowed out. That was always going to be the case though and unless they didn't read or listen to the conditions properly, they should have known that could happen. Yep it sucks but they should be very grateful to be somewhere where people can go and watch tennis!

No...that's the whole point of quarantine - inside a hotel room for 14 days - no exceptions. Once they are physically outside it's only a small step to break more rules...talk to someone, go for a walk, go to a shop etc. There are currently 70 of them in quarantine and there's no set up to have a group of minders to watch every one of them every minute of the day. They are in hotels under police guard, once you start letting them out for any one reason, then it will get out of hand VERY quickly. If they weren't prepared for that, then they had the choice not to come. and let's not forget, if they get through the first round of the tennis, it's being reported they make $100,000 which isn't a bad pay off...so spending 2 weeks in a hotel room is worth it to get that, which is of course the main reason they come.

The demand that they be put into private mansions with tennis courts made me laugh out loud! It’s amazing how clueless some can be. Deal with the minor discomfort or stay home!

Yeah this should make the neighbors happy.
Looks like karma got her. Two different rooms same problem. 😆

ha! Her neighbours will be other tennis players, so they can take it up with her. Although I assume they are well spaced out and don't have rooms next to each other.
Someone replied to one of her tweets "well, you're going to be out in the first round anyway - at least now you have an excuse"

Djokovich was a dick before COVID and he'll be one once it's no longer an issue.

Djokovich was a dick before COVID and he'll be one once it's no longer an issue. Very true - he's said he's opposed to having the vaccine and doesn't know what he'll do if it becomes a requirement to travel, and doesn't want to be 'foced' to have it. Also: He doesn't care about anyone else now because he's already had it.

I'm a huge Federer fan. He usually travels to tournaments with his wife and four kids, and decided to not play in the Australian Open this year because of the extended time separated from his family. He knew that a tournament with quarantine before and after could mean 6 weeks total. I respect that decision so much more than players who had the same information, went to Australia and are now trying to re-negotiate.

I've seen reports here about this - hilarious One player was apparently running 5 k in her room, backwards and forwards between the door and the window I just can't figure why these people (athletes in general) believe the rules don't apply to them Well, I know they're used to being spoiled but, you know what I mean We are seeing a similar thing among our footballers. They are playing to empty stadiums but it's being shown on TV and they are still all doing the usual hugs etc after scoring a goal. They've been asked repeatedly not to do this, primarily to set an example, but they are ignoring it. There seem to have been lots of outbreaks among them, but for some reason it's particularly difficult for them to follow the rules and the powers that be don't seem to think it's possible to get them change their behaviour 'that quickly"

Hah, I've been following on twitter. Djokovic is such an arse, and none of them will be winning any friends over this.
I do have *some* sympathy for the mice situation, I don’t think it's unreasonable to expect a clean room to quarantine in 🤣🤣 But it's only temporary, not like she has to stay there forever.

Some as saying she's been leaving food out for it so that it comes to her room and she can film it. She's been moved to a different room and they said they had the exterminators in, so they aren't just ignoring it. Or perhaps she just needs to keep her room cleaner so vermin aren't attracted to it.

I just dismiss anything Djokovic says.

One of the players said she wasn't aware that if one person on their plane tested positive that every passenger would have to go into hard lockdown Really? Has she been living under a rock for the last 12 months? Our news last night reported on the Police stopping a car and fining the three occupants for travelling for miles and miles to get burgers. They claimed they didn't know there was a pandemic going on became they don't watch the news! Yeah, right.

Because watching the news would be the only way to tell there was a pandemic happening obviously! 🤨
