She's one of my personal heroes. I had the pleasure of having her as the speaker for my college graduation back in 1984.

Today makes 49 years since Shirley Chisholm announced her run for presidency.

I remember when she was a Congresswoman and when she ran for president. It is a vivid memory because I was 14 years old. I understood nothing of politics, but I can still see her in my mind. She made a lasting impact because I always thought women were represented in politics as well as people of color because she stood up and stood out. It was only later I learned how much she stood alone in her time. And her prints on her clothes were quintessential late 50's early 70's. She had great style of the time.
