Not only a great baseball player but the abuse he suffered as a black man breaking Babe Ruth’s record and how he tolerated it always made me admire him. My dad passed his love of baseball onto me and I remember him waking me up to watch Hank break the record. Condolences to his family.

I had to go to church choir practice the night Aaron was set to break the record. When my mom picked me up I told her to race home so I could watch Aaron bat and possibly break the record. She told me it was too late. He’d already hit the record breaking homer.

I admire Mr. Aaron. It is such a loss for baseball, sports in general, and the American society as a whole.
Baseball is losing a generation of legends. We had already lost Tommy Lasorda and Don Sutton this month.

Our family knew he was close to breaking the record so my dad bought tickets to every home game that week except for one (because he had a work matter and couldn't get out of it) so we went and really thought one night he was going to break the record (so close!) but wouldn't you know it, he broke the record the next night, the one we couldn't make it to - dog gone it. It was a real exciting moment!

I'm glad you posted this link so I'll be prepared when the anti-vaxers on both sides of my family (including an MD and an RN on different sides of the family) try to convince me that Hank Aaron died from the vaccine. If he was 24 instead of 86 and died suddenly after taking the vaccine, I might be a little more concerned. (Although I'd still have to see some proof that he died from the vaccine and not some other cause).
