I have been obsessed with politics over the past 5 years and spent significant time each day reading political articles and watching political television. It has taken up too much of my time and emotion. I plan to reduce the amount of time and emotional investment, now that Biden administration is in place. I plan to take a break over the weekends and evenings. Do you plan to cut back, and if so how?

I’m certainly spending a lot of time following news cycles amd keeping myself informed. I plan to continue and increase. This isn’t the time to step away from caring about the issues.

I no longer check Twitter as soon as I get up! I used to check to see what trump tweeted & who he pissed off that day.

I checked reduce only because I’m hoping that with increased transparency and honesty with the new administration there will be less of a need to double and triple check every.freaking.thing for accuracy and truthfulness. I’m hoping that just watching the regular news will touch on the important issues of the day.
I will freely admit that the last 4-5 years have been utterly exhausting just due to the insane amount of dishonesty and disinformation being dished up daily and I’m glad it’s over. There is no way I could have kept up on that level of alert for another four years.

We are news junkies and will still find out and stay in touch with what is happening.
One thing that DT did--my DH became more focused on political news.

I can actually watch the news again. I couldn't stand Trump's face, his voice - I literally had to change the channel, so I feel like I can watch morning news again and not start my day off with a migraine.

I am going to remain more politically aware than I have been in the past.
I am also going to stop checking the news multiple times a day. I haven't watched news since yesterday morning, and it feels great to not be worried about what shit our president is up to every minute of the day.

I have vowed to myself to stop clicking on any headline that has DTs name in it (unless and until I see a headline about his arrest).

I cut down on news consumption dramatically after the election, but since the 6th have been watching a little more again. I need to just stick to the basics, though. I get a lot of info here and can watch the major news but don’t want to watch cnn all night anymore unless there is something major going on. I also think I am going to try greatly reducing my time on Facebook. I have unfollowed most of the Trumpers on there but I still get some frustrating posts daily. I was staying on fb for some groups but I recently joined WW and they have their own app with posts and things like that, so I don’t really need to be checking the groups regularly. And frankly, many of those were frustrating to me as well because people were always posting political type opinions on things like masks.
I want to be informed, but spending my life with constant stress from seeing frustrating things online doesn’t help anyone.

And those who are reducing consumption are the networks' worst nightmare. As Les Moonves said "Donald Trump is bad for the country, but good for CBS."

I can actually watch the news again. I couldn't stand Trump's face, his voice - I literally had to change the channel, so I feel like I can watch morning news again and not start my day off with a migraine. This exactly. My DH loves to watch David Muir on ABC News every.single.night. while we eat dinner. I got to the point months ago where I’d just could not watch the evening news and see trumps face. Those pursed lips. Tiny little hands. Thumbs up. Not to mention the idiotic things he’d say. Gah. I’d go eat by myself. It was either that or get indigestion. We watched the evening news together on Inauguration Day. The whole show! I could not tell when we last did that.

I also stopped watching TV news so I didn't have to hear that voice. Inauguration day was the first time I've watched live news in about three years.
I generally read my news, but I'd gotten into obsessively doom scrolling. Now I can happily read and put it away without worrying what else might happen all day long.

This past four years has transformed me from someone totally ignorant of and oblivious to politics to a political junkie. I’ve mentioned before that because my extended family are brainwashed by Fox, the MSNBC anchors have become like my family, and their guest commentators are some of my favorite consultants and journalists. I would genuinely miss them all if I stopped watching. Lots of stuff is happening now, so I won’t reduce my viewing time any time soon, but I don’t have the same desperate feeling I had with The Thing, feeling like I had to know every solitary dastardly deed that administration was doing. I truly have become fascinated by politics beyond just keeping informed. Those involved are interesting to me psychologically.

I will stay about the same. I got my gossip about the stupid shit he said here. I read the articles that touched on stuff that would affect us (my family) the most or were about causes/issues that means the most to me. A lot of stuff, I skimmed over and will likely do the same. The last 4 years made me pay more attention to the above stuff and that will continue.
I'm looking forward to the glam and pomp when they're able to host state dinners and attend ceremonies and concerts again. I dress like a slob but I love checking out fashion.

I wanted this to happen in the past as well, but I would like channels like cnn to focus on other news, not just the headlines and not just the US. I used to like Al Jazeera America for that reason. I just don’t feel like watching 3 or 4 hours of people talking about the same thing (different show, same topics) is necessary.

I hope that people will stay engaged. I don’t mean that people need to obsessively consume media but apathy and lack of knowledge was a big factor in how we ended up in such a dangerous place. We’re far from out of the woods.

I’ve always been a news junkie and followed politics pretty closely. I’m still going to watch and read as much as before, but I can do it now without wanting to scream at the television, at least most of the time. (Still have Cruz and McConnell and Hawley to infuriate me.)
The fact that people who support Qanon insanity got elected to Congress, and the white supremacy people are still around, means remaining vigilant. I was a little nervous all through the inauguration, because there are too many people for whom violence is an option. I can’t just sit back and pretend all is well, and I think we all need to stay aware and speak up against the lies and the conspiracy followers.

I will reduce my consumption, but that’s simply because I spent way too much time trying to keep current with all of the BS from the last administration. However, my consumption will be way up compared to previous administrations as I learned an important lesson from the last.

I live in the MetroDC area. Politics *are* our local news. So, consumption will stay the same in our house.

If anything, I will increase my consumption, but I expect that the content of that consumption will change. Instead of doomscrolling the executive branch shenanigans, I'm going to focus on making sure I'm more informed at the local level and the legislative branch so that I can do what I can to prevent QAnon conspiracy theorists and just plain uneducated little assholes from ever making it to the House or Senate (at any level - state or federal). I was not always as knowledgeable as I should have been when the primaries came around, but believe me, I am going to know every name on that ballot going forward.

I already feel more relaxed when I wake up. I don’t have a twitter account. However with Doofus I didn’t need one as on the news daily they were sharing what un-truth he tweeted during the night.
It is really nIce not to hear that stuff.
I’ll still have the Today show on in the morning. The information is different, although still tied to Doofus in some way. I keep thinking a year from now (hopefully sooner) there won’t be anymore to talk about.

Somewhat less. However, talk about issues may increase. I've noticed DH is already starting to bring up issues again. I'm in a mixed party household and we could talk politics during the Bush and Obama administrations but not the last 4 years. Now we can. He will criticize Biden a lot but it is issues and that we can discuss.

The autocrats and tyrants count on apathy and ignorance. SO MUCH THIS!!! This is why I've felt, irrationally so, that I, along with a bunch of others like myself were responsible taking our democracy for granted and for letting that Thing into the door, and so I've vowed never to let that happen again.

I have never been very into politics. I'm just glad I won't have to hear about whatever stupid thing the president tweeted during the night. It's such a relief to know I won't be trapped in a patient's room watching Trump talk shit on Fox News. Actually, that's not true yet, but I remain hopeful that they'll tune in a little less and therefore I will have less exposure to Fox.
So my interest will stay exactly the same.

I disagree. Edited to add: Here you go with the revisionist ass history. Don’t deny or downplay the role Black people, black women in particular played in this election. It wasn’t an everyone race. Some of us worked much harder than others. Don’t be dismissive of that hard work. Stacey Abrams turned Georgia blue. Now Kamala Harris will break ties. Black women fixed what America got wrong in 2016. Period.
