I love her and was so glad that they used her Dr. title when she and President Biden were announced on Inauguration Day. It’s so nice to have someone classy AND smart in that role.

From where I sit in the South, "class" has to do with being submissive, demure, and subservient. Strong, educated women like Jill Biden, Michelle Obama & Hillary Clinton rarely fit into the role of patriarchal wife and therefore are said to have no "class". That explains a lot

That's why I mentioned being in the South (and put "class" in quotes) where they still do cottillion and women are taught to be submissive to their husbands. I don't equate classy with submissive or demure either, but being surrounded by evangelicals for the past 30 years, I can tell you that I am in the minority here.

I call BS. I didn’t read it as a slur toward Michelle, I read it as being very much about Melania who, despite having plenty of money doesn’t seem to have much class. This was the statement issued by many many diehard Trump fans. People who *love* Melania and think Trump is the best President ever. The 74 million who voted for Trump. The group who would start a civil war for him. They certainly didn’t think Melania was classless. But, feel free to call BS, I guess. 🤷♀️ mimima, myshelly and Elaine. Apparently I misread the original post, I read it as class left the White House when the Obama’s left. I 100% agree with that, this past administration had about as much class as an abandoned school. I’m sorry for those of you I upset, particularly you Elaine. I typically agree with darned near everything you say and I was shocked that you were saying it was racist. I have no idea what scrappyesq’s typical stance is or what was meant by the post, only my take on it.

That's what I think of, I've never equated classy with submissive or demure. I think of someone with class as having all of these qualities, PLUS showing true respect to other people, no matter what THEIR life circumstances are. My grandmother used to say that you could tell a person's class by how they treated the people who worked for them. Those that spoke down to emplyees and servers, and tried to demean them had no class.
She also said that class was more about WHO you are than WHAT you have.

It was such an outrageously offensive statement - that class had finally returned to the White House with Melania - especially since she made a living posing for soft porn photos with her clothes off, that it was/is impossible to overlook the racist meaning. I was hoping that you simply misunderstood! 😀

I heard that about class returning to the WH so freaking many times over the past 4 years. Even my prudish mother, who used to say to me allllll the time that money doesn't buy class. Yet she thought Melania was the classiest FLOTUS we have had since Jackie Kennedy. I did ask her one time, what is so classy about a woman who used to pose nude on the internet and slept with a married man? No answer to that other than we are all sinners, blah blah blah.

I said the ONE thing I liked about Melania... I don't recall the raincoat. Hate her or love her, Melania is a very attractive woman and would probably look good in a paper sack. That’s just it though Melanie isn’t all that attractive 🤷🏾♀️Like not at all. The likely reason she is associated with beauty is her NOT BLACKNESS. Most sex workers are way more sexually appealing in my opinion.

I was hoping that you simply misunderstood! 😀 Oh, yeah -- I definitely wasn't endorsing "Melania has class while Michelle did not" as a sincere argument. She has been very difficult for those of us who genuinely do not care if someone has nude pictures in their past or brings cookies to the troops but also had to listen to eight years of people tearing down Michelle Obama over things like wearing a sleeveless dress. Fighting the urge to retaliate should get me a presidential medal of freedom, but I suppose the days of awarding that honor to unqualified people like me are for now behind us . One thing I am finding interesting (genuinely) from this thread is the notion than Melania might be construed as having class because she is subservient. I . . . did not get that impression from her years in the White House -- it seemed like, instead of doing the first-lady thing of doing a ton of uncompensated labor to support her husband's presidency, she moved late to DC, largely kept to herself, and, according to private reports, griped heavily about things like participating in White House Christmas decoration.

I can admit it - I liked Melania's shoes. She had some freaking killer footwear. I imagine Dr. Biden will make a fabulous First Lady, even if she doesn't sport louboutins regularly.

She is a nice dresser, most of the time. Minus the stupid gear she wore in Africa and the I don't care do you jacket. I adored the light blue outfit she wore to his inauguration.
That sure doesn't mean class though. Just yesterday, my SIL who loves Trump, posted a video showing the grace and beauty of Melania and wrote how the press treated her terribly, and how she got no credit for being a fabulous First Lady.
I literally had to sit on my hands.

“Classy” to me is the WHOLE package—elegant, honorable, stylish, smart, compassionate, giving, high standards, impeccable behavior. She was stylish. Not classy. Instead, I think she’s more like this description: Now Dr. Jill Biden fits the definition of classy.

She looks like she’s made of plastic to me. I get that she fits the standard “attractive woman” mold, but honestly, her looks, her facial expression, her words, her actions, her choice of husband, all make me recoil. Her wardrobe is the least of it.

Lived in the south since the day I was born and I don't equate class with submissive or demur..neither do the two strong daughters that I raised. I equate class with how you treat people, how you life your life, working hard, honesty and decency. Actually learned this from my strong Mom.

It’s one MORE,” so I have it stored in a couple places. LOL. And tincin , you made my day with “had about as much class as an abandoned school.”

ne of the best examples I‘ve stored in my brain of the power of confirmation bias was when our former prolific libertarian male Pea, who had previously described Hillary Clinton as a “disgusting First Lady,” jumped into the original Class Has Returned thread to defend Melania’s nude photos as appreciably different from most nudies because they were intended as “art.” Oh yes, I remember that thread well, Jonda thinking he was going to come in and school us poor old ladies about politics and feminism, except this time he found the climate had change and there weren't the usual suspects frothing over him and agreeing with everything he said (because MAN) When I posted examples of naked Melania he called me disgusting. He repeatedly pointed out how much more enlightened he is about nudity than the rest of us and he could appreciate the art in them that the rest of us clealry couldn't. He likened her grainy cheap porn to Mapplethorpe - obviously not expecting anyone to know his work...but he was wrong on that too. That was just after the inauguration & he scuttled off soon after. Here's the thread if anyone's interestedHe also got into the feminism thing with Elaine on another thread about the pussyhat marches. Glad he tucked his mansplaining where it belongs and vanished.

Here's an interesting post from that thread:
Jan 22, 2017 at 1:32pm I think that kind of thing is ridiculous. I don't care if both couples wear gunny sacks, as long as they don't lead the country down the shitter.
