I just LOVE HER. Already. She brings back the class that left the White House with Michelle Obama. There was so much scandal with the National Guard troops being forced out into a garage, and I just saw that she brought them cookies. Yes I know not life altering but such a simple gesture.
Plus she’s amazing. A Dr. in her own right. I feel like I’m living in a completely different world.

Thing is, honestly, I don’t expect the first spouse to do anything. If Melania had wanted to chill and not have a bunch of mostly-uncompensated public duties, fine by me. What I didn’t care for was the insistence by a certain faction that we regard her as “bringing class back to the White House” (whatever might that mean?), or the insistence that she was somehow beyond scrutiny as compared to Hillary or Michelle.

I was definitely talking about the cookies and the gesture. It made me think of things Michelle Obama used to do, like the fitness class on the White House grounds, or dancing with a two year old in front of Michelle's First Lady portrait or surprising White House tourists. The list goes on and on.
I don't remember as much about Laura Bush or Hillary Clinton, and I don't remember anything about Nancy Reagan. I do remember that Barbara Bush also had that warmth, that certain something that has been missing from the White House that is hopefully making a comeback.

The white coat and dress she wore for the inauguration events have been doing the rounds in my embroidery groups, with all the flowers representing states and territories. That was a very thoughtful gesture, and she seems like a thoughtful person.

She also already spoke to NEA members, which makes me really hopeful for the future of public ed in this country. I got to see her speak at our IEA rep assembly last year when I was a delegate. SHE'S AWESOME. Went out in the crowd of thousands of people and everything.

I realize that was only 1 conversation, but up north, where our second home is, is trump country like you would not believe. And the residents have been outspoken about having a black president. I was proud to have an educated woman like Michelle in the WH, and I adore Dr. Jill. |

Yeah, I’m still waiting for a couple of the Trump-supporting peas to come explain exactly what was so classy and beautiful about Melania, and exactly what was unclassy and unbeautiful about Michelle (?!?!). I’ll be happy to assist with providing historical/cultural footnotes to your claims.
And I’m sure they’ll come up with a way to dismiss Dr. Jill, as well. Oh yeah, that idiotic WSJ opinion piece, right?

Melania Trump dropped out of college, modeled, starred in soft-core porn, and plagiarized Michelle Obama's speech not once but twice. What kind of "class," exactly, would these people be talking about? That is what I'm going to call BS on. |

From where I sit in the South, "class" has to do with being submissive, demure, and subservient. Strong, educated women like Jill Biden, Michelle Obama & Hillary Clinton rarely fit into the role of patriarchal wife and therefore are said to have no "class".
