While I think the decision to riot and destroy falls squarely on the heads of those who choose to do so and I agree that Trump fueled that wholeheartedly and should be held accountable, as well, and I feel like there has to be some accountability for what is right and what is wrong (I'm looking at you LGBTQ discrimination and racism) because clearly there is a right side to be on, I do feel like there has been and continues to be inflammatory and divisive rhetoric from both sides. One side might be lopsided in the amount of it, but extremists on both sides have helped stoke the flames of division. And I think we see it here too. I am specifically referencing the kind of language where we call people idiots and such. Dehumanizing language. I feel that does nothing to bolster your argument. And I would like to see it stop---period.
With that said, I think it is a giant leap to blame Democrats for inciting that violence. But if we are going to use Trump's words against him (and I think we need to), then we need to consider our words in talking to and about one another.
ETA: I'm not sure that's what McCarthy was talking about though. And he's certainly looking to blame rather than take responsibility for "his side's" role in the insurrection.

Oh, please. Go fuck yourself, Kevin. He is pathetic. What a coward. Liz Cheney seems to have an actual spine, unlike many other Congressional Rs.

McCarthy stood on the house floor and stated (thinking Jan 6th ?) that the president was responsible. He has since said he didn't say it, but surely it will be shown at the impeachment trial!!

I still see it. And I think itās spot on too. I have no idea who this guy is, but at least he has retained the ability to think critically for himself unlike so many others. His name is Justin King and he's an "adversarial journalist" - which I had to look up (for anyone else who didn't know, it's " a form of journalism that is focused on exposing the wrongdoings of public officials") I found him shortly after the 2016 election and have been listening to him a few times a week ever since. Anytime anything crazy goes down, I seek him out to see what he has to say, because it is typically very rational and well presented. He lives in Northern Florida or South Alabama, and I suspect he spent some time in the military, he was born in Japan and grew up in a military family. I do know he is a former military contractor - he has some really good insights about the logistical workings of resistance, coups, military tactics, non-lethal policing, etc. He's been described as an "anarchist", however I don't get that impression from what I have heard at all. I suspect whoever called him that took issue with the first sentence of his philosophy on his website and conveniently didn't read the "authoritarian" part. His personal site says this: "King is an outspoken critic of all authoritarian systems. He believes strongly in the decentralization of power and the inherent rights of people. A belief that educated and informed people are more difficult to subjugate drives his journalism and activism."

Same as it ever was. Either do what conservative Republicans want or you canāt blame them for the horrible things they will do if you donāt.

What an idiot! No, I am not responsible in any way for what happened! He probably should take responsibility, but don't blame the rest of us. One reason I used to love the Republican party is because I thought they were more the "take responsibility for what you do and don't blame others for your mistakes" party. I realize I was very wrong! It seems to be the opposite.

His personal site says this: "King is an outspoken critic of all authoritarian systems. He believes strongly in the decentralization of power and the inherent rights of people. A belief that educated and informed people are more difficult to subjugate drives his journalism and activism." The 2 videos Iāve seen if his have been spot on. Iām sure that I would/could find plenty of issues to disagree with him on, eventually, but those are just regular issues that we all have opinions on. But then again, as we have been saying on here for years, the Trump administration wasnāt just a simple āpolitical issueā disagreement. It was completely different. So Iām happy to find people that have opinions on ISSUES different than mine but could still see the Trump administration for what it was and can still see facts and arenāt in another reality. It makes me greatly relieved that perhaps the world is not completely and utterly doomed and maybe someday we can get back to a place where it is issues we disagree on and we can still be people afterward. Like it used to be.
