Granted I know NOTHING about how these things work but I'm wondering if there was a master plan as to what the ladies were asked to wear to the inauguration? I loved it and it was glorious but looked "planned" to me.

I fully assumed it was planned as it all looked so magnificent.

I assume so. The designers probably fight over who gets to dress the first lady and now the vice president. I missed the balls. I love to see what they're wearing.

First off - I am NOT a fashionista! I wear whatever is clean and weather appropriate. LOL But when I saw Michelle O's outfit, I thought all the shades of plum kind of clashed with each other.. the top, the pants, and the coat were all in the same color, just different tones and it looked off to me... but I also have no sense of fashion, so maybe that is a thing? She always looks amazing, but I just wondered about those color tones. I also laughed at how they announced here. and then .... oh yea... Barack Obama is with her. LOL

I'm sure the outfits for the first and second families were planned and coordinated for the videos and photos. I would think the invited guests would wear whatever they liked.

What I do know is that ALL of those ladies looked fabulous! I also read that Kamala Harris' daughter designed her own inauguration outfit. Cool!

I wouldn't be surprised if they talked about even if in a girlfriends sort of way. It seems to me there's a closeness between Obama and Biden, the men, so it wouldn't surprise me if there was closeness between the women too.

It gives the outfit a look of depth and texture rather than a flat monochromatic look. Sort of how I painted much of my house in varying shades of bluish and greenish light grays.

Having the pieces all be exactly the same would make the outfits appear flat and like uniforms. As they were was more interesting and stylish.

Oops, I think I'm wrong about this. I read that she designed her own outfit (as she is a design student) but it was actually designed by New York designer Batsheva. Gotta give credit where credit is due!

😂 Me too. Although I rarely wear mittens, but I DO like his. I also have a lot more hair, certainly not as great as Michelle Obama's. (Did like her outfit too)

A little off topic, but I read Jill Biden’s people approached a number of fashion designers and asked them to submit something for her to consider wearing at the inauguration. The designer claimed she didn’t know Jill Biden would wear her design until she turned on the television the morning of the inauguration. I was surprised because I thought it would be like a royal wedding where the designer was there straightening and fluffing the outfit right up until the moment the Bidens stepped out on the platform.

LOL I'm not always a fan of Michelle Obama's fashion choices - but I actually think the slightly different shades of plum worked very well in her inauguration outfit! It would have been boring if it had all been exactly the same color in my opinion. I do wonder though, if they looked more different than they were simply because of the different fabrics used for the shirt, pants, and coat. I didn't love the two different shades of purple used for Hillary Clinton's ensemble. Just goes to show you what different tastes we all have!

I've always loved jewel tones so their outfits were definitely pleasing for my non-fashionista eyes. My favorite of the ladies' dresses was actually the one that Dr. Biden wore in the evening. All those hand embroidered flowers, representing the 50 states, were just gorgeous!

I was raised in the 70's by a mom who had VERY definite ideas of what "goes together". For example, I was never, ever to wear pink/red combo or green/brown combo (I don't know why... probably just mom's personal taste?), so I was kind of thinking that Amanda's red hair accessory didn't "go with" her yellow outfit. I was put in my place by my 20-something daughters. They both loved her outfit! And we were all in tears, over Zoom, from three different states, while listening to Amanda.

The Young man who made Michelle Obama's outfit also said he didn't know she was wearing his. It was from one of his runway designs and he lengthened the coat. He was in the airport and heard his name being talked about. He also designed/made VP Harris' inaugural gown. Worn during the fireworks I think.

I didn't really care for Amanda Gorman's outfit. It seemed too old for someone her age. But maybe that is why she chose it? I also don't really care for that color of yellow but it worked for her. I have seen other photos of her wearing that color so maybe that is her signature color?
I didn't notice that the others had varying colors of purple or turquoise so I guess that didn't bother me. lol

The ex-wife was also in attendance at the swearing in, which is pretty cool. I love a functioning step-family.

Dr. Biden saw Amanda perform for the first time while she was wearing a similar shade of yellow to the inauguration coat. When the got invited Dr. Biden commented on how beautiful she looked in the color.
I thought it was a nod to Maya Angelou. My mind immediately went to canary yellow and the book cover of I Know Why A Caged Bird Sings.

My mind immediately went to canary yellow and the book cover of I Know Why A Caged Bird Sings. She is beautiful and those colors worked very well for her. Not many can pull off that yellow but she looked great; I actually liked the red with the yellow. And she has a great smile, which makes her more beautiful.
