Cicely Tyson
Such a staple from my childhood. Sounder, Roots, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman...incredible actress, incredible life (married to Miles Davis - a significant musical figure for me).

I was amazed at how great she looked for her age, when she was on How to Get Away with Murder. Such a cute little lady. As msladibug said, that's three. I hope that's it, we don't need to lose any more of these icons.

Wow, I just saw Gayle King’s interview with her. She looked so good. She had so much grace and dignity. So very sad.

My father was Miles Davis’ biggest fan. Literally obsessed with him so I grew up knowing every piece of music. I know he must not have been easy to be married to - and she had so many other aspects to her life as well. Should be a fascinating read. 96 - we should all be so lucky.

This made me cry last night. My non artsy parents made sure we grew up with such an appreciation for the arts, and I especially fell in love with theater.
She’s an absolute legend who changed things so much for blacks in the arts.
What a life well lived.

A good friend went to a performing arts school named after Cicely Tyson. She got accepted into thee best HBCU so Cicely Tyson called to congratulate her. When she finished babbling about her goals she said Ms. Tyson said “I’m glad you didn’t say you wanted to become famous cause you can shoot somebody and do that” 🤣😆🤣
What a life she must have had. I’m glad our community didn’t wait until she died before acknowledging her contributions. My friend said she would go to every graduation sometimes bringing other celebrities with her. She got her roses while she was still alive.
I bet a lot of people will be receiving her memoir this week too. What a classy way to go!

What a loss. I know this is not her most famous role, but I just loved her in Because of Wynn Dixie.
