Hello and welcome to the February challenges jjpeapea, natscraps, vexedangel, angel97701, gramma, ComplicatedLady, kellyr21, msliz and schroema! So happy to have you on my team this month! There's a lot going on for February and I'm excited to try some of the 28-4-28 challenges. (for some reason I always try to call it 4-28-4 lol) I have never taken part in that particular challenge in the past, but I want to do as many as I can this go round. Thanks to you that are hosting each week! Is anyone going to attempt them all? I'm too slow a scrapper but I can try to get some in. So far it looks easy to combine many on one project. Win! Other than trying those, I'm going to be working on unfinished projects - oooo I need to post a challenge for that if we don't already have one! And trying to use more of my use it or lose it products. Like naked chipboard. Does anyone still have some of that laying around? I keep trying to purge it and don't. So I'll be looking for ways to use a good bit of that this month. What will you be working on this month? Do you have any goals for yourself? I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's work. It's so inspiring! Looking forward to a creative month as well!

Hello! OF COURSE I have a ton of naked chipboard, and a list of things that can be done with it . . . why don't you post a challenge to use naked chipboard and dress it up?
Right now I am feverishly working on editing and printing photos. I asked the hard question of my DSD24, would she want the scrapbooks I've made that are for her after I leave the planet? Not that I plan on leaving anytime soon. She gave me an honest answer, she knows I enjoy doing scrapbooking, and if I did layouts for her, yes she would keep them. She also requested pages with her little dog she had in HS. I did a photo album just of the little dog about 6-7 years ago and reminded her of that. I think she will go look for it now, as it is in one of the boxes she recently moved to her new home.
I'm not so sure DS21 would care? He's off sowing his wild oats . . . much more to the story, but right now due to early developmental trauma and genetic related addictions (adopted from Russia at age 10) he is living in a homeless shelter a town over and working a minimum wage job. Can't stay clean enough to get a better paying job at Facebook facility, or the mill or get back into Job Corps.
Goals for this month? Try to do some of the 28-4-28 challenges. Complete my own goals for cleaning out bathroom cabinets and throwing away STUFF! I already have the Sheetload started . . . at 3 am this morning when I couldn't sleep. Back in bed at 3:45 though so that's good!
I also have one substitute job lined up, I will be VERY PICKY about the sub jobs I will take now that Oregon is finally letting kids go back to school. With my own FASD DS15, I really only want to work on the days he is in school. He is border line executive functioning and lacks impulse control so we keep a pretty close eye on him.
Oh, and in the next week get my taxes ready to go to the new accountant. Our former accountant passed away at age 61 (one year older than ME!) in November. So I am trying to be organized and get things done for that. Did medical stuff most of the day yesterday as well as pay bills. Finishing up with Charitable donations, then work on the tax planner. It's online and I'm not sure I like that yet. That means I have to scan in our documents (1099s W2 etc)
Looking forward to a little free time when DS15 goes to school on Mondays and Thursdays. He may also be gone a week with his Dad on a trip to test a plane that DH is working on. Now that is when I will really get a lot of stuff done!

I have lots of naked chipboard to use up! I just hope I can keep up with making a layout each day. I haven't done today's yet, and it's only the second day

joyfulnana I’m hoping to do most or all of the 28 challenges. We will see though. I’m in need of getting pictures printed so I have more to choose from. I like my albums to be chronological but I don’t scrap chronologically, that feels to stifling to me. I need to have lots of photos to choose from to stay creative. I have lots of naked chipboard! Mostly letters I think. I’ll have to pull it out and use some of it this month!

angel97701 that’s the hard question isn’t it? My kids are 13&16 and I do separate books for each of them. If they really want them and promise to take care of them, I might let them out of my sight. 😂. I’m coming to realize I work so hard on these books (fun work!) that I may not want to let them go. 🤔

Awesome! I was sure I was the only person that hung on to that stuff! And I did post a challenge angel97701. You've got a lot going on and are probably looking forward to that week to yourself! I'm taking a long weekend next week. I just mentioned to my niece today that my boys would have a lot of scrapbooks to go through when I'm gone - I hope by then, the ratio of albums to stash is not so skewed toward stash lol. I used to do this for them, but I do it for me, and I have no intention of letting up. They can deal lol. schroema, I don't scrap chronologically either. And I don't keep the albums that way either lol. I have albums for each person, and a general family album, and the pages go in whichever way. That would probably drive a lot of people crazy lol The only chronological albums are the couple PL albums I've done in the PL app. I've decided to do 2021 that way. For some reason this whole feeling of being "behind" has been nagging at me. Most likely just because it's the start of a new year. msliz I always think I'll use month long challenges like 28-4-28 and treat it like LOAD but I never get the first day done lol. I'm hoping to combine some of these into one project. We'll see how that goes though lol.

I first started stamping (1995) and scrapping (1997) and it was a hobby when I was recovering from a serious car accident/internal head balance head injury. Until I married in 2004 I thought about who would want my albums after I was gone. I really did do it just for me then. Now I scrap some for myself, and pages for my kids and family books. I know my youngest DS15 appreciates his pages, and will sit and look at them every once and awhile. I mentioned in the crop on Saturday that he was looking at an album and said "I didn't know I sat in a F-22 at EAA Oshkosh", that's when I told him that is why I do these layouts. So he can remember things from before. For DS21 may also have the same reaction later on . . . if and when he gets clean and sober. So meanwhile I do them for myself. I was just relieved that DSD said yes, do what you want. Either you can do pages for me or not. I choose to do pages for her because I think it will continue to build a relationship (she's never really gotten along with me, until more recently). Plus I feel like DH appreciates that I also do pages for DSD. Either way my pages are more geared towards the photos I have and I have more of the boys anyway. But I just finished editing her frosh year of Xcountry ski season. It will make for a nice double page layout. Plus I bought all kinds of Red/black/white paper to do pages for the kids HS sports. Also did the same for the MS sports in blue and silver.
I don't scrap chronologically, and the pages that don't homes in albums live in Iris storage boxes until I get closer to those years. I have a bunch done from 2016, 2017, and 2018, occasional more recent ones as well. I have the albums purchased . . . you know the hoarder in me when things go on sale. The boys came home in Oct 2009, I am just starting on 2011 chronologically. But then I go off on a tangent and do other pages too. I'm careful about dating the pages when journaling. I also sign the back and date when it was created. If they ever take them out of the albums is the only way they would know that. Off to edit some more photos.

angel97701 that’s a good point about photos helping you remember. I know there are things from my childhood I only remember bc my mom has pictures. There I justified all my scrappy purchases and time spent lol!

My experience is that people don't get nostalgic until later in life. I think our kids may appreciate those albums much more in the future. My daughter does enjoy looking through the albums, my son only does it to be nice. I mostly do pocket page scrapbooking and I like it to be in chronological order. Like even left to right, top to bottom in the pockets. angel97701 it is funny that you mentioned the bathroom cabinets. I just did the same thing. In my mind I had done it recently ... nope, the years pile up so quickly when you're my age and that perception was wrong. There were things in there that were very, very expired. It actually reminded me how much we've enjoyed good health around here. I am replacing some things, like no one wants to drive for Imodium at the last minute or in the middle of the night. But I'm getting the smallest sizes I can find. I had so much fun in CARDtober, I hope to do almost all of the 28-4-28, often with cards instead of layouts. I appreciate all the hostesses so much, so I tried to do my part by signing up to be a 28-4-28 hostess. The husband got his first COVID vaccine! Our hospital had a sign-up and I had to click "submit" a bunch of times to get him a slot. Daughter and I are too young and healthy for this phase. My son lives and works in a different state, so he will have to monitor their situation for himself.

jjpeapea that has been my exact experience. The older I get the more nostalgic I am. No vaccine for me yet. I'm on a list of people interested but I'm not even sure what order they are working through that list, or if they even are. I only know I can't wait for my turn. I need to see if I can plan a layout or two combining all this weeks 28-4-28 challenges. That's the only way I will make any headway on them lol.

jjpeapea I feel you on the chronology on a layout. On my recent zoom layout, I messed up and one or two of the photos are out of date order and it bugs me! But they were already glued down and NOT budging! So I had to tell myself in 5 years it will be ok that the photos from April 2020 are not all perfectly lined up on the page and that the fact that they are on the SAME page is good enough. lol I found out today that teachers in our district are getting the vaccine in two weeks. Crossing my fingers that holds and also hoping my daughter with type one diabetes can get one soon as well.

After treading water so far this month and just spinning my wheels during my scrap time, I think I'm finally ready to pull out that chipboard and see if I can pair it with one of the 28-4-28 challenges. They are such good challenges and are really inspiring me! Besides that I'm ready for something happy and move on from that horrible game last night I've taken a long weekend that's coming up and it's soooo cold here that instead of the things I planned, I'll be staying in and hopefully getting lots of scrapping down. And decluttering. The boxes are piling up because it's too cold to take them to my car lol. I hope everyone is having a great start to the week!

I need to pull out my chipboard too. We got a bunch of snow last night so another snow day for me today. Planning to catch up on some neglected chores this morning then tackle some more of the challenges this afternoon.

Well DS15 went back for his first In Person school day on Monday and it went well (it could have gone either way!) It was such a relief to not have to be "on" for many hours straight. Since he's been home from Wilderness Therapy (7/15/20), that's what it's been like. Think of an 8 year old in a 15 year old body. I also finished with the second round of psychological testing for his adaptive score for eligbility through the County's Developmental Disabilities office on Monday. Another check in a box. We should hear in 2-3 weeks if he qualifies, which he most likely will.
As for my albums, I've finally decided that I DO need to do pages for DS21 so he can remember all the good things we did with him & his brother while he was with us for 8 short years. At some point they may have a great deal of value. It took me awhile to get around to that point.
Another huge job done, my taxes are at the accountant and good to go for 2020, doing the happy dance.
Ordered another 85 photos tonight. Might do one more batch before I can no longer pick them up at Costco. I really should figure out if I can scan photo quality on my brother Scan-N-Cut and maybe scan in some 12" x 12"s. Hum that's another thought!
I have my VERY first sub job since March 2020 tomorrow at the same HS that DS15 attends tomorrow. Only 4 hours, which is perfect! I don't plan to do much subbing as I feel supervision of DS is more important. Plus I don't know how the schools are really handling everything. Oregon finally let the individual counties and districts make their own decisions, and the HS'ers just went back this week. Only 2 days a week with one day of WebEx, but it is better than all online!
Time to be off my computer!

How’s it going guys? I hope everyone is staying warm! I’ve never been so ready for winter to be over. Another week before we will be above freezing 🥶
I have sooo many pages that are in progress or planned out in my head. I need to print pictures. I’m kinda of dead in the water until I do. I have almost got a page ready that will meet three challenges I think.
How’s everyone doing on them? They are so inspiring and there are so many great creations being posted! I would like to get more of them done before the month is over!

I'm doing alright. The only challenges that are giving me any real trouble are gramma's. Journaling is my second least favorite thing about scrapbooking. My absolute least favorite thing is writing about myself. So I might be in trouble if I can't turn those prompts around and make them about my kids. I'm still working on my plans for how just to do that. They're coming together slowly....

msliz I’m struggling with those challenges too. I think i just have to be in the right frame of mind to tackle “deep” journaling and that spark hasn’t hit me recently. I’m doing good; we’ve had lots of snow days so I’m actually getting scrapping done 😃 Our school staff is supposed to be getting our vaccines Thursday so obsessively watching me email for the sign up link.

Maybe it has something to do with age ha! I am anxious to take on gramma's challenges lol. That's where I am right now I think, wanting to tell more of my own stories. But I definitely need prompts to get me headed in a direction, because I have a bunch of random photos from childhood lol schroema that's exciting about the vaccine. I hope you hear something soon!

For me, I think the aversion to journaling has more to do with being very goal oriented in terms of getting most of my 2020 done before spring. If the challenges don't support that goal, I'm going to have to set them aside for now and get back to them later. I still want to do them, but I'm in the wrong frame of mind at the moment.

Just let me say - I hate journaling. So I don't call it that. I call it story telling. And the stories don't have to be BIG - they can be just little snippets.

But I still have my hang ups. I feel like I can tell my kids' stories from when they were very little without any problem. But once they were older, I was called out by them for telling their stories, of which they had clear memories, wrong. Or rather, just from other than their POV. It made me want to stick to the bare minimum when it comes to putting words down on a page. It's a big responsibility, telling someone else's story. When it come to telling my own story, I think one day I'll be able to start, but I'm just not there yet. Btw, I think these challenges are awesome, gramma. They really are making me think, and the layouts on the threads are really inspiring.

As gramma would say I "had a day" today. Parenting a child with FASD is a test in patience and resilience. We found another stash of vape garbage he picks up of the ground. IF we were to restrict him from riding his bike the usual 10-15 miles a day, we would have a much worse situation I'm afraid. So we will continue to be vigilant, and find what we can when we can. He just doesn't have the ability to choose to tell the truth and goes into total melt down mode. He also found my Un-du, you know my aromatic hydrocarbon that lifts stickers and after it evaporates they are sticky again? First it was the bottle on my crafting desk that was empty a week ago right after I opened it. Then during the search of his room this morning I found the two other bottles I had in my stash . . . because for awhile it was hard to get. We assume he inhaled all of it . . . three bottle worth in the last week or so. I was so unraveled I was physically shaking. This is just his third In Person School day . . .
In the good news category the Intellectual and Development Disabilities office called today to say he was now considered eligible, and to apply for Medicaid. Tried the website the coordinator suggested but because DS is 15 the identify proofing would not go through on the phone because he's not 18 and I am to contact Medicaid directly. Eligibility coordinator also warned that we will be denied on income, but then be bumped over to the eligibility due to his DD.
Thanks for your encouraging thoughts and praying in advance!
Did some scrapping, but weather and timing to photograph has been scarce. I am loving the 28-4-28 prompts just don't have the energy to get there yet. I'm hoping we get a second chance during April as well grammadee?

(((((Hugs)))) angel97701 and congratulations on surviving "a day". Hoping the paperwork will go through for the medical support. Dd is attempting to help her sister in law to obtain disability funding, and the red tape is phenomenal. We have no idea how anyone who does not have a neurotypical advocate gets through ANY of the steps. My dad was a storyteller, and I could--and DID--listen to him for hours as he spun tales about his adventures as a young man pioneering this province. How I wish I had recorded them. Somehow MY life never seemed that exciting... I love storytelling about others, but in scrapbooking I like to do most of it with the photos and other elements. But it does my heart good when dgk's are going through the albums and reading every page! They LOVE the stories, and especially like to relive experiences we had together when they see pages about them in a scrapbook. I need to get back to adding up points. Was doing well for the first while, but then let them get away from me. Am keeping up--almost--with the 28-4-28 challenges. Have a couple outstanding. Not sure what you mean about a redo in April, angel97701? I am thinking of plunking in a challenge in March to meet the 28-4-28 challenges you haven't done. April I was thinking of a set of daily photo prompts.
