Studies and articles like this make me . I work from home and am generally sitting at my desk for ~7 hours a day. I have been trying to get up and at least move around my office or stand during conference calls or take periodic stretch breaks. My sister bought a treadmill desk for her office. Have you done anything to reduce your sitting time? Dangers of Sitting

Absolutely. I now stand at my desk at work.

Good thing about teaching is that I rarely sit while I have students in my room. I usually log 7000 steps before I leave the building. I might sit for a couple of hours before and after school when I am grading or something.

I have NOT reduced the amount of time I spend sitting since this new board opened - must get moving!

My goal is to get up from my desk hourly. I really should set an alarm.

Yes - started using a FitBit to motivate me. It worked great, except for the parts where I was forever losing it (forgetting which pants pocket it was in), actually losing it (FitBit sent me another - wonderful CS!), or laundering it (and it miraculously keeps living!).
So I changed over to the Jawbone bracelet which I wear all of the time. Mostly I love it, but occasionally I get sick of having it on. I like the Jawbone app so much more than FitBit, and it does a good job of keeping me competitive with myself. Also, it has an alarm feature that I've set to remind myself not to sit for too long a stretch during the workday.

Yes. I'm a quilter and spend a lot of time sitting at my sewing machine. I used to move my ironing board up to my second floor sewing room while working on a project so I could just swivel between the machine and the iron. Bad. Now I keep the ironing board in the basement laundry room where it belongs and get up and walk up and down the stairs a lot. It's kind of a pain sometimes, but it's much better for me.
