Skellinton post about washers got me to thinking about how long appliances can last. So, how old is your... Washer Dryer Refrigerator Dishwasher Other stuff you want to call out.... I'll do ours: Washer - 9 yrs Dryer - 26 yrs! Refrigerator - 12 yrs Dishwasher - 12 yrs Our washer died 9 years ago and we got a front loader. It's ok. But the washer's sibling, the dryer, is still going strong! We thought about replacing it at the same time as the washer, but decided not to. I don't care that they don't match. And that thing is just astounding. I'll probably have to sell it when they take me to the care home. The refrigerator before this one made it 15 years. When we bought the new one the sales person said, "This one won't last as long - they don't make them like they used to." But it's been fine too. And hoping it holds out for several more years. I don't like buying appliances.

Our washer and dryer is 30 years old this month. I continue to drag them from assignment to assignment (military family), even when our rental house includes them. About 50% of the time, I have swapped ours out for the ones that came with the house. I’m not sure if they have lasted this long because we don’t always use them, but they wash and dry perfectly. In the meantime, friends have gone through 1-2 sets since they “upgraded”. We replace the hoses every time we move and have never had an issue. We even put them into long term storage while we are in Belgium!
My parents have an upright freezer that they bought used somewhere around 1975-1980. It’s still going strong. Their garage fridge is my grandmother’s old fridge. I’m guessing that it’s from about 1970 ish. It mostly just holds soda and ice packs, but works well.

So everything is around 17 years old, that’s how long I’ve been in the house. The washer, I just replaced, is 12 years old. My first washer, a Maytag, lasted 5 years. I’ll never buy another Maytag. My stove is 22 years old. I’m redoing my kitchen this year and have purchased new appliances. The only thing I’m keeping is my fridge which is going in the basement.

Our washer and dryer are 29 year old Maytags. I wouldn’t trade them for anything. We also have a 30 year old electric stove but our refrigerator and dishwasher are “only” 10 years old. 😀

Washer - 2 yrs, 9 months Dryer - 2 yrs, 9 months Refrigerator - 2 yrs, 9 months Oven - 2 yrs, 9 months Cooktop - 2 yrs, 9 months Dishwasher - 2 yrs, 9 months Garage side by side Refrigerator - 15 years (Guessing - was here when we bought the house) Garage Upright Freezer - 12 yrs Water Heater - 2 yrs, 3 months HVAC 1 - 2 yrs 7 months HVAC 2 - 1 year
Just a note - Bought the house almost three years ago and it was a foreclosure. Knew going in things were neglected and needed to be replaced. Hoping to squeeze a bit more time out of the HVAC systems, but the new ones are so much more efficient.

I bought this house 15 yrs ago, all appliances were new then. I did replace my stove about 3 yrs ago. I was tired of my electric cooktop so I switched to a gas range electric oven combo.

We have lived in our house for 18 years and one month. Our washer/dryer set is 17 years old. We do have a great appliance repair guy who is cheap that has helped maintain them.
We are on our 4th refrigerator and third dishwasher
Wall oven and wall microwave are original to the house as are the have system and water heater- 21 years old

we've replaced all of those since moving here in late 2008 - which is especially annoying since we purchased the stove and fridge when we moved in (they didn't come with the house) and the washer shortly after moving in and twice since (the current washer is doing much better).
No idea on the age of the fridge/stove/dishwasher in the new house - the previous owner did leave us manuals etc...so that info might be in there.

I don't replace working appliances. So they just stay until they don't work anymore and then I get a new one. I don't see (most) appliances as a decorator element -- they are functional tools. But I did have to have my preferred pretty color of Kitchenaid mixer just because. Lol.

The appliances that were in the house when we bought it are still going strong, 16 years later (stove, microwave, and dishwasher). The refrigerator and the washer/dryer we bought both gave out after 13 years. That was an expensive year...

Washer and dryer are about 5 months old, but our previous ones were 22 year old. The dryer finally died so we replaced both and donated the washer to a family of the floods.
Kitchen appliances are between 7-10/years old depending, with the exception of our microwave which is going on 25 years and our toaster which is from the 1950s.

My first washing machine was a used Maytag. I bought it for $50. It was ten years old when I bought it and it lasted another 30+ years. It was a great washer. I'd love to have it back again. The tub finally rusted out almost 20 years ago and I've gone through three washers since then. They don't make them like they used to.
I don't have a dryer. I like hanging my clothes on hangers to dry. I am in So Cal so we always have free sun to dry clothes. Dryers beat my clothes to death.

Washer and dryer - Maybe 10? It is only the 2nd set we’ve owned in 30 years.
Kitchen - everything is 5 years old. We did a remodel 5 years ago and bought all new appliances for the kitchen. Everything except for the refrigerator were close to 30 years old. The refrigerator was about 20 years old.

Washer and dryer are both 14 years old. We renovated the kitchen 3-1/2 years ago and changed out all the appliances which were then 12 years old and gave them to friends who were just starting out. Late last year they had to replace both the refrigerator and dishwasher.

Kenmore Washer & Dryer--21 years old (dryer's been worked on twice, no issues with washer, but we'll fix both until told they can't be fixed). Fridge, Microwave, Dishwasher--16 years old (fridge worked on once) Oven--4 years old (old one was bought at the same time as other kitchen appliances, but an unreplaceable part stopped working so it had to be replaced).

Washer & dryer—9 years old Stove & Fridge—26 years old Microwave—not positive, maybe 5 years old Dishwasher—3 weeks old. It replaced a 26 year old dishwasher. The old one had started having issues sporadically. My old dishwasher was a workhorse. Hated to replace it. The new one is doing a fantastic job. Despite the learning curve, I think it is beginning to win me over.
The dishwasher would not have been replaced until it officially died, if it weren’t for COVID stock issues. Grabbed the one I wanted when it came into stock. This also allowed the dishwasher to be installed on our timeframe.

They are all 2 years old because that's when I bought this house. They're all Whirlpool, no complaints.

Washer: 21 years old Dryer: 21 years old Fridge: don't know - it came with the house so at least 8 years old Dishwasher: 8 years old
The washer and dryer were Kenmore and I'm hesitant to replace them. We just bought a house that has a washer and dryer that look much newer and nicer, but I'm toying with trading them for ours. The owners tended to not take good care of their things so I'm not confidence in the proper maintenance.

Can I just say how proud I am that my thread inspired a spin off? Now if someone can go off on some tangent and turn one of my innocuous threads into a multi page rager I will feel like I have arrived. Our washer was 22. Our current dryer is probably 4 or years old, original was about 18. Our current fridge is about 1, and is the 4 th fridge we have had in 22 years! We have had terrible luck with Fridges. We are on our 3rd dishwasher but I don’t know how old it is. Our oven/range is chugging along, knock on wood, it is the original one from the house 22 years ago.

My old dishwasher was a workhorse. Hated to replace it. I have a feeling our DW is next out. Don't relish looking for a new one. This one is a bosch. It's good. A bit weird on the layout, but we're used to it. Really quiet. Hope I'm wrong about it Can I just say how proud I am that my thread inspired a spin off? Glad to be part of making you proud! So happy to see SO MANY 20+ year appliances! It's so great to know that the landfills aren't getting our appliances too soon.

Also, our poor old washing machine was taken to a group that either repairs appliances or uses the parts to repair other appliances. It cost us 5.00 to drop it off and I hope that it can be used or repaired. I don’t know how many areas have one, but I encourage people to check their area for a similar organization.

Our washer and dryer are just over a year old. We just replaced them in 2019. I have no idea how old our fridge is, it came with the house and is in working condition so there’s no need to replace it. I can’t wait for it to die, I hate the freezer being on top, but I can’t justify replacing a perfectly good fridge and putting it in a landfill. Our dishwasher is about 4 years old, we replaced it after the original in the home broke. The original had to be around 20+ years old.

That is awesome! When our fridge & washer went, we had them taken away w/the delivery of the new ones. But I like the idea of them being partially used for parts vs. just junked or just the scrap iron being recovered. Will look at that when the next one goes

Everything is a year old. My dad bought me all new. The toaster oven is new and was a gift that I wanted. The microwave will be replaced. It’s about 10 years old and a bit small.
