My mother made cream puffs from time to time. When the community had a fund raising bake sale she took them to the bake sale.
My sister made some to take to a SB party on Sunday and to take more to her office today.
No one in her office had heard of them or eaten them and approached the dessert with caution.
At the SB party some ate them but called them souffle'
Hence my poll.

OMG! They're AMAZING! I get the ones from Costco and devour them! I seriously have to walk away or I will eat the entire container (and be horribly ill)

I couldn’t answer because there wasn’t an option of “Eww! NO!” LOL. My mom’s twin sister LOVED cream puffs and eclairs and would make them all.the.time. She would bring them over and the rest of my family would eat them. I don’t like the texture of whipped cream at all and won’t eat anything that includes it. It’s nasty!

I shamelessly love the ones you buy in the big tub in the frozen section.
We buy a tub and pass them back and forth down the couch while we watch tv.

I haven't had them for years, but I can say I've made them...about 35 years ago in elementary school! I would like to try making them again, but I'm afraid I'd eat too many.

Cream puffs are definitely not soufflé! Remember when it was fancy to make them look like swans?
This reminds me that I once ordered mini cream puffs for a friend's bridal shower and the bakery forgot to fill them. They were just empty pastries and we all pretended that was perfectly normal.

They used to have them all around downtown Los Angeles, but now I think there’s a handful in all of Southern California. I believe it’s a chain from Japan. The whole thing is really light. I mean, I’m sure it’s full of fat but it is just like a cloud of heaven in your mouth.

I know what they, and have eaten them before.
With that said, cream puffs would not be my first choice of desserts. If that is all that's being offered, I will eat it. But, I would scrape off part of the cream. Texture wise, it's usually too much cream for me. I prefer a very thin layer of cream or any other filling in the middle, not a huge dollop. It's not something I would serve in my home. In a dessert bar situation, I will pass the cream puffs by.

I am definitely not a baker. But back in the dark ages when I was a kid I made them--really easy and I liked them because they aren't too sweet. About 10+ years ago I made them for my family and no one would touch them. But my dog liked them--isn't that what counts?

My mom made them and topped them with a chocolate ganache. I do not care for the filling. My younger sister has taken over making them, and most people love them.

Soufflé are served in ramekins and eaten with a spoon. Cream puffs are free standing. No utensils necessary, unless you take a fork and knife to everything.

I haven’t had one in years! I made them once, from a recipe in a Nora Roberts book my mom put in my stocking one year at Christmas! I remember them being surprisingly easy to make.

Yum! We visited the Beard Papa in the Upper West Side of NYC a coupe of years ago. I have made cream puffs once or twice but usually just make chouquettes with pearl sugar for my family now. Chouquettes are the puffs without the filling.

I love them. My grandma used to make them all the time. She would serve them with strawberries, but since I am allergic she would make a chocolate mousse like filling for mine. So delicious. At my HS graduation she made so many for my party (they were the one food I requested) she was letting them cool in all sorts of cupboards in my mom’s kitchen. We found a tray over a week later! Poor little things were hard as little rocks.
I need to make some soon.

When I was growing up (in Australia) we had the round cream puffs filled with whipped cream and dusted with icing sugar or long chocolate eclairs also filled with whipped cream and coated with a thin chocolate icing
These days we've fancied it up a bit, and now we call the small round ones profiteroles and they can be filled with whipped cream or Creme Patissiere
and they are dipped in chocolate ganache.
They are all made from the same basic choux pastry recipe though.
I can't imagine how you can not know what they are, or not have tried one, I always thought they were quite common in cake shops etc, and they usually do some version of a choux pastry on most baking shows.

Every time I forget to tell the wait staff to leave the whipped cream off of my milk shake (which is nearly EVERY time, ugh), I look around the table to see whose milk shake I can scrape it onto, LOL. The best friends to have are the ones who will happily take the stuff you hate and trade you for the stuff you love!

Well... I’m also not a fan of custard fillings, soooo... still nope. DH brought home a donut for me and said, “You have to try this bismarck, it’s delicious!” I was all like, “Mmmm! I love a nice bismarck!” Cut the thing in half and it was filled with Boston Cream. What the heck! And I was horribly disappointed. True story. ETA: I also don’t like any type of cream pies, no chocolate silk, nothing like that.

O ... M ... G ... If I cooked, I’d totally take you up on the recipe. My husband went to culinary school after getting a BS in business management because he thought it might be fun to own a restaurant. This was in 2008 when the economy tanked. 🤣 Then we had our first kiddo and he became a SAHD and no longer wanted to own a restaurant. Anyway, he’s the cook here.
