Does anyone have a countertop icemaker that you love, that has lasted quite a while? There are tons to choose from when online shopping, most with a high percentage of good reviews. But the negative reviews are all the same. They only last a few months before they stop working or start leaking. Even the more widely known brands such as Frigidaire and Igloo. Does anyone have one that you can recommend that you’ve had good luck with lasting a long time?
Thanks! Pam

Unfortunately, my Frigidaire kicked the bucket last month. We just bought it in July. I need to see if Sam’s will replace it (I know Costco would if we had bought it there, but not sure about Sam’s).
I LOVED having fresh ice all the time. I used my Brita pitcher to filter the water, and the ice tasted great. It’s definitely cheaper than my fridge filters that need replaced every couple of months at over $40 a pop!

Bummer! Was hoping more people had something. Both recommendations are for the Frigidaire, which has the same types of reviews (breaking down quickly) as most others. Anybody else?

Pam I bought this one last April. Love it. There are two of us in the house that are major ice users and we make a batch about every other day. Very easy to use. Just plug it in and add water. Make sure you drain it well after each use or you’ll have standing water that could lead to mold. When I bought it, it was on sale for $80. So maybe watch for a sale For Presidents Day next week. www.walmart.com/ip/Igloo-Compact-Ice-Maker-ICE117-Stainless-Steel/117294259

I have an IVATION ice maker. I've had it for about 6-7 years now and haven't had any trouble with it - it makes 3 different sizes of ice cubes and makes quite a lot rather quickly. I prefer the larger ice cubes since the smaller ones melt faster. If it ever stops working (which I hope it doesn't because I really like it), I seriously think I will look into getting a pebble ice maker - maybe the prices will come down by then.

Id love to have the Opal nugget ice maker but $550! Actually what I would really love is a real under counter pebble ice machine/freezer but that's about $3000.

I’ve had the Opal for a couple of years now, and love it as much now as I did the day I received it. Worth every penny.

Our First Build Opal is almost four years old. I'm not sure how it compares to the newer ones, but it has been worth it. It clogged once after being away on a trip, we tried all the instructions and had to call customer service. They walked us through steps to fix it.
I was willing to splurge on the Sonic style but my husband talked me into trying this before our renovation. My only complaint is the noise. We've made very low noise selections on appliances and it sometimes has a hum.

For Christmas, my dh bought me the GE Opal nugget ice maker. It's big and takes up a corner spot of my counter. But I love it and all 5 of us use it every single day. I have no idea the reviews or how well it'll hold up. But for now I love it!

Thanks - I do go by there and get a bag once in a while and a local pizza place also sells bagged pebble ice but it would be so much more convenient if I could have my own pebble ice machine A girl can dream

My husband has one in his shop that must be pretty sturdy. He found it in our ditch after it apparently fell off a pickup when the former owner moved. He brought it home & plugged it in & it worked perfectly. Sorry I don't know the brand but I can't get over how quickly it makes ice.

I know my sister has gone through 2 already and so has her friend in the same time frame. They each lasted about a year and then stopped working. I’m not sure what brand she had but it was noisy and she decided not to replace it when the last one broke.

These ice makers are my dream!! My kids used to refer to bagged ice as "nice ice". Our icemaker in our refrig is just run with FL tap water (dangerous for any human or pet).
Question: Do these icemakers produce crystal clear ice (like the bagged ice)??

I’ve had the Opal for a couple of years now, and love it as much now as I did the day I received it. Worth every penny. I have the GE Opal as well. Expensive, but it’s perfection. Worth every cent. The ice maker on our Samsung fridge was constantly malfunctioning and had to be replaced 2x and the ice sucks. I’m really happy with it.

There was a thread about this in the past couple years with great ideas! I have never been able to figure out the search feature on this board, so I can't link it for you.
I would love one with the little ice cubes. We just have hardly any counter space in our kitchen, and only 3 outlets in our basement so I can't get one. But I am so tired of the ice cube trays! So if someone has one that's small enough, I may have to look!

Question: Do these icemakers produce crystal clear ice (like the bagged ice)?? We bought sonic ice a couple times last fall, but it all froze together in the freezer, so we would have to take out the bag, drop it on the floor to break up the ice. We gave up on it! It also took up too much space in our small freezer section. But that was great ice!

Omg, what is with the stupid Samsung ice makers in the fridges? We have one of the smart refrigerators and just over a year after we bought it the ice maker started acting up. When you'd look in our, they was a huge buildup of ice all around. For a while we'd chip it all out and it would work fine. Then it stopped working altogether. It was a PITA.

It's worth complaining. It's a known defect.

Our Samsung fridge works great but icemaker quit early on. DH got me the Opal for my birthday several years ago and we love it. Ours is the older model that doesn't have the extra side compartment to it. Does take up a big amount of counterspace but we still have to have it!

THe one I bought from Sam's started leaking after 6 months. It was under warranty for a year, and thankfully we keep receipts, so i was able to trade it for another. Got it home and it wouldn't feed the water, I literally gave it a good shake and something clicked inside and it's been working great for 3 weeks now. Not sure the brand. Love love the ice though

So, I don't like ice and ice makers in fridges are the source of much angst in my opinion, but I had no idea there was such a thing. Huh.

My DH surprised me with an Opal last fall and I was so shocked! We love it!
The one he got me came with the side dispenser. We use the side dispenser all of the time because we use the Opal every day. I clean it about every 5 weeks. Recently it wasn't working well and my DH figured out that the side dispenser was not toward the front of the unit but pushed toward the back. Apparently when it is pushed toward the back the dispenser blocks the vents which restricts the airflow and prevents Opal from working properly.
Anyway, the unit does hog the counter and I am considering moving it into the dining room. I have heard of other people keeping their Opals in other rooms and I am thinking about trying it, too. The side dispenser is easy enough to fill and carry into the adjoining room. When it comes time to clean it, I can just carry it back to the counter next to the sink.
A few weeks ago the ice maker in our fridge broke and I was even more happy that we had Opal! I need my ice!
