I was walking the dog and realized I'm the only one on my road that puts flags out. Is this trend gone? I'm the girl who looked around when I was in high school and realized I was the only one rolling my jeans at the bottom. So yeah, I'm not sure if this is a regional thing or is it gone due to covid? I really don't know. Help a girl out. Are you putting flags out?

It’s the official flag of “an old lady lives here.”
Sorry.

We have some for different holidays that we put out. I don't care if they are "in" or not, I like them.

We have a few neighbors that still put them out.

I think they are cute. I don’t see many around though.
ETA - I think of them as like a beach town thing. I used to vacation on Balboa Island in Newport Beach and they were super popular. But that was 20 years ago lol.

I have one garden flag in my front yard and I change it the first of every month - so my Valentine flag is currently flying
Each of my monthly flags has a "Peanuts Theme"

They are out, but I don't care. I have some that I put out to add color to the drab plants that aren't currently in bloom.

I wouldn’t say “out” like a fad, because I’m not sure they were necessarily in or trendy. They are something grandmothers put out. They’re cute for her yard, and my kids liked seeing the changing flags throughout the seasons, but it’s not something we would have in our yard. Not because they’re offensive...just not my style. If a grandkid gave me one I would use it, but I wouldn’t seek one out on my own.

Around here you see a lot of wood ladders that have hooks for changing out seasonal decor. I don't see garden/yard flags. I really didn't know that was ever a trend.

I didn't answer your poll because I didn't want to skew it. No I don't put out yard flags. Nobody, and I mean nobody put out flags here. It's just not a thing in my country.
I think it's a nice idea. Except when the flags are political.
ETA: DOH! I take back my "nobody put out flags" because I just remembered that people hang football flags in their windows if their team wins the Grand Final (equivalent of Super Bowl).

It’s the official flag of “an old lady lives here.” Sorry. Yup. The only houses I see with garden flags are the houses that belong to people over 65 with a few exceptions.

I only have my American Flag that I put out on the 4th or those type holidays. The decorative ones, while I like them, I never bought any. There are not many out right now because of the snow... but I think they will start coming back out after March... There might be a handful of people that do it.
I am just thankful my neighbor FINALLY decided Halloween is done for. Ohhhhhh geez....

We have lots of retired people in our neighborhood, so they’re common here. If you love them, use them! Nobody goes to their grave regretting a garden flag.

hmmm. I have never thought of seasonal garden/yard flags as being something that could be "in" or "out"! I am not yet 50 and have two - although technically they are not seasonal. I've got one for my alma mater (Virginia Tech) and one for the college my oldest attends. Now that my youngest is in college I need to switch out mine for hers. Don't particularly care if they are "out" or only for "an old lady lives here."

My friend always has one out.
I've never been a fan so I never got any.
I'm a firm believer if you like it...do it!

People have them out here. I have two plus a large American flag on the house. One of my garden flags is near the front porch; the other is out by the mailbox. I don't care if they are in or not. I like them.

I love my house flag. I have one for every month. If it screams I'm an old lady so be it....IDGAF what others think of me.

I thought they were a staple for those that like them. Maybe the graphic indicates trendy or not? School spirit, teen activities, professional or college sports, holidays and community causes are subjects represented in our mixed age group neighborhood.

I have one on lakeside for the fishermen flying a Valentine flag now. I have seasonal ones, with my summertime I want another by my mailbox, but I have a couple of mail box covers too.

I don’t think they are an “in” or “out” thing. I think some people like them and some do not. I love seeing them change with the seasons and holidays. Plenty of people in my neighborhood display them.

I’ve not thought if it as a trend (to be in or out), but more just a style or preference thing.
I do have a US Navy flag that we’ve flown in the past when either of the two Navy sons were home. I got it in part because our old house had a flag pole mount beside the side entrance to the home. The new house doesn’t have one. We thought of just hanging the flag on the wall in the screened porch, but haven’t done it. I guess I’m just not really much of a decorative flag person.

I have never heard of anything like this. Can someone post a pic of what they are? Here's an example of the variety and an example of a common size - about 12 x 18 inches.
