So I'm sitting here eating a bowl of hamburger stroganoff (made from a mix). Haven't made it in 35+ years. Doctored it up with fresh mushrooms and fresh spinach. It's not bad. That got me thinking. . . what have you made recently that you had not made in years and years!

Tortilla soup. Hadn’t made it in years, I think because my SO mentioned he didn’t really care for it. Made some the other day, and guess what, he loved it. It was really good.

I really wanted a butter and sugar sandwich today, but it will have to wait until I get some more Grandma Sycamore bread, it wouldn’t work on sourdough which is all we currently have in the house.
I had boxed Mac and cheese a few weeks ago, it was ok, I prefer the cups now for quick and easy. I was really tempted to buy some spaghettios last time I did a grocery pick up, but I don’t want my memories of them tarnished,

Butter and sugar sandwich on white bread! Oh my gosh. I haven’t had one of those in years and years. I think that was a holdover from the depression era my parents lived through and still ate well into my childhood. That and fried bologna sandwiches made with ring bologna. Fry in a dry skillet until the edges are crispy and put on soft white sandwich bread.
I recently wanted an Eckrich Pickle Loaf Sandwich on white bread with ketchup. Another childhood, blast from the past, sandwich. Alas, the grocery store didn’t have any pickle loaf. In fact, all of the lunch meat was wiped out. Probably for the best because it really wouldn’t have been good for me anyway. Ha.

Campbell's Chicken and Rice Casserole. It was a staple growing up and I used to make it very occasionally years ago. But then stopped using canned soup for the most part. But several months ago it sounded so good. And it is good, even if it is made of processed crap, so I made it again a month later.
I won't make it again for a while as it isn't at all healthy but I won't wait years either.

I had some leftover rice last week and got a hankering for some rice pudding. I couldn't find my mom's recipe so I used one from Pintrest.
Not nearly as good. So disappointing.

Campbells tomato soup--its been a few years since I made it for dinner because I'd rather make a tomato soup from scratch, but I made it the other night when I wasn't feeling good...still good!

I made up a bunch of pickle dogs a week or so ago. We haven’t had them in a while and they are so good but such a pain in the butt to make! I didn’t bother cutting them into chunks the way one normally would if serving as an appetizer. We just ate them whole they way they serve them at the State Fair.

My mom would make them for dinner it the late 80s. I found them in the freezer section and had to try to cook them. Not bad but quite fatty.

A pickle dog, A/K/A Minnesota sushi, is basically a whole pickle or a large pickle spear wrapped in a layer of cream cheese with a piece of thin sliced lunch meat (usually it’s supposed to be pastrami, but we also sometimes use ham) wrapped around that. The cream cheese part is what’s a messy PITA so I try to spread the cream cheese onto the meat and then wrap the whole thing around the pickle. Normally the wrapped pickles would be cut into chunks and offered as an appetizer for a party but we buy them as a whole pickle from a booth at the State Fair. Sounds really weird, but it’s actually really good.

I made stroganoff recently...it's been so long that my 20 year old didn't remember ever eating it. Mine was from scratch, but I'm definitely going to add spinach to it next time. DD was a huge fan...she loves mushrooms.

OMG so good, and I haven't had one since I graduated from high school in 1980! Every once in a while, I get a craving for a good old boxed Chef BoyArdee pizza the way my mom used to make them: topped with bits of hamburger and the powdered parmasean mix that came with the box, no mozzarella. I think I was probably 11 or 12 years old when I had my first "real" pepperoni pizza. Up until then, it was CB from a box. Mozzarella and pepperoni were not something we kept around the house, but we always had hamburger from the farm in the freezer, so that is what went on the pizza. One of my childhood friends posted a picture of the CB pizza she made last weekend out of nostalgia, and I couldn't believe (a) how many positive comments she got and (b) how many people admitted to making one every couple of years LOL.

Personally, I hate that stuff, but he certainly enjoyed it. Bologna, on the other hand, can be found in our fridge frequently. I like it fried, with a scrambled egg on top, on toasted white bread with Miracle Whip. Definitely a WV "lunch of champions" LOL.

Sounds really weird, but it’s actually really good. That must have been the inspiration for an appetizer recipe I cut out of the newspaper in the 1980s. Trim the crust off of slices of white bread and roll them flat with a rolling pin. Then spread each one with cream cheese and top with a couple of slices of deli ham. Place sweet gherkins in a line along one edge, and roll up, then slice into smaller pieces, secured with a toothpick. They were actually pretty tasty and were my "go to" to take to potluck parties in my late 20s.

I made taco salad with the crushed Doritos and catalina dressing over the summer. My guests went CRAZY for it and it was just as good as we remembered! I made it again for our family and we ate just that in big bowls for dinner!

Chow Mein. Not authentic Chinese Chow Mein, but the 1970's Aussie comfort food version, with cabbage, beef mince, beans, curry powder, dry chicken noodle soup, and 2 minute noodles. DSO hates the smell and taste of cabbage, so I can't even cook it when he's around. DD and I both love it, and the last time I cooked it was back in early 2017 when he and DS were on a camping trip.
Mmmm, I will have to find out when he's going to be out of the house for a day or two and cook it again.
