I really wanted a butter and sugar sandwich today, but it will have to wait until I get some more Grandma Sycamore bread, it wouldn’t work on sourdough which is all we currently have in the house. I had boxed Mac and cheese a few weeks ago, it was ok, I prefer the cups now for quick and easy. I was really tempted to buy some spaghettios last time I did a grocery pick up, but I don’t want my memories of them tarnished, Now I want toast with butter and brown sugar

Campbells tomato soup--its been a few years since I made it for dinner because I'd rather make a tomato soup from scratch, but I made it the other night when I wasn't feeling good...still good! I just picked up (okay, had delivered) a can of Campbell's tomato soup a few days ago! I haven't had it in ages either. I don't buy many canned items other than tomato products and various beans. For some reason, tomato soup and crackers sounded perfect. I haven't made it yet, but I will in the next couple of days.

I haven't had one in at least 35 years, but I've wanted a fried Span sandwich for awhile now. There is no way I could open the can and slice it with out gagging, so DD DBF offered to make it for me when I'm ready. I went to the Spam site and read that it is made from pork products. Does it taste like ham? Bacon? I am curious, but I don't know that I would eat more than a single bite.

I made One Pan Dinner which I think was called Dinner Winner 40 years ago when mum bought it. Seasonings and macaroni in a box that you cook with minced meat. When I saw it at the supermarket I had to try it again. Not great but not awful. Just like I remember 😄

Butter and sugar sandwich on white bread! Oh my gosh. I haven’t had one of those in years and years. I think that was a holdover from the depression era my parents lived through and still ate well into my childhood. That and fried bologna sandwiches made with ring bologna. Fry in a dry skillet until the edges are crispy and put on soft white sandwich bread. I recently wanted an Eckrich Pickle Loaf Sandwich on white bread with ketchup. Another childhood, blast from the past, sandwich. Alas, the grocery store didn’t have any pickle loaf. In fact, all of the lunch meat was wiped out. Probably for the best because it really wouldn’t have been good for me anyway. Ha. Mmmm, pickle-pimiento loaf. Or Olive loaf.

YES!! Braunschweiger and Velveeta on white bread. I have been have a craving for bologna sandwich. This would be made with miracle whip, bologna and a slice of Velveeta. (I think I like Velveeta...) My husband was craving braunschweiger a couple of weeks ago, so I picked some up for him. Personally, I hate that stuff, but he certainly enjoyed it. Bologna, on the other hand, can be found in our fridge frequently. I like it fried, with a scrambled egg on top, on toasted white bread with Miracle Whip. Definitely a WV "lunch of champions" LOL. My DH has been on a braunschweiger kick lately. He’s on his second “roll” of it in 2 weeks. He keeps offering it to me and I keep declining it. I can’t stand the stuff.

Boxed mashed potatoes. We had real potatoes and I love them but was craving that salty, kind of fake taste that only comes from a box. lol. Just like my mom used to make.

My biggest craving was Fish Stix and Tater Tots. Harder to do now that I have Celiac but just as satisfying once I breaded the cod.

A couple of weeks ago, I introduced DH to "Frito salad," and he loves it. Lettuce, cherry tomatoes, kidney beans (well-drained), cheddar cheese, and Kraft Catalina dressing. Then topped with Fritos instead of croutons. For some reason, the flavors just go together. When I was getting ready to go to the grocery store last weekend, he asked for more Catalina dressing and Fritos.

Ha ha ha! I just knew someone would ask! A pickle dog, A/K/A Minnesota sushi, is basically a whole pickle or a large pickle spear wrapped in a layer of cream cheese with a piece of thin sliced lunch meat (usually it’s supposed to be pastrami, but we also sometimes use ham) wrapped around that. The cream cheese part is what’s a messy PITA so I try to spread the cream cheese onto the meat and then wrap the whole thing around the pickle. Normally the wrapped pickles would be cut into chunks and offered as an appetizer for a party but we buy them as a whole pickle from a booth at the State Fair. Sounds really weird, but it’s actually really good. That must have been the inspiration for an appetizer recipe I cut out of the newspaper in the 1980s. Trim the crust off of slices of white bread and roll them flat with a rolling pin. Then spread each one with cream cheese and top with a couple of slices of deli ham. Place sweet gherkins in a line along one edge, and roll up, then slice into smaller pieces, secured with a toothpick. They were actually pretty tasty and were my "go to" to take to potluck parties in my late 20s. Ours are made with dill pickles. We’ve never made them with bread on the outside. OMG I haven’t eaten commercially made white bread like Wonder Bread since I was probably five years old!

I made up a bunch of pickle dogs a week or so ago. We haven’t had them in a while and they are so good but such a pain in the butt to make! I didn’t bother cutting them into chunks the way one normally would if serving as an appetizer. We just ate them whole they way they serve them at the State Fair. What is a pickle dog? Is this a dill pickle and hot dog combination? It’s a whole dill pickle or large dill pickle spear wrapped in cream cheese which is then wrapped in thin sliced deli lunch meat like pastrami or ham. Usually they are cut into chunks (it looks vaguely like sushi) and served as an appetizer, but we get them as a full “dog” in one piece at the State Fair.

I haven't indulged the craving yet, but I'm sure it's coming soon. I want a liverwurst sandwich like you wouldn't believe. I haven't had one in ever so many years, and I'm not even sure where to find good liverwurst. I love liverwurst on rye so much. I buy it every now and then from the grocery store deli. I think it’s from Boars Head. Delicious. Thank you thank you. I would have never thought to check there. I kept thinking I was going to need to find a German deli. You too littlemama

That sounds interesting, crazy4scraps. I was picturing something deep-fried. The county fair here sells deep fried dill pickles. I have never eaten one. I wish they would sell them in bite-sized pieces for those of us who are curious but don't want to eat a large pickle. They are dipped in some sort of batter and then fried in oil.

Oh yeah and I made pigs in a blanket Super Bowl Sunday - hadn’t made those in about 30 years! They did not last long between the three of us! Me too! Also, recently made French onion soup.
